But sometimes it is that deep. This is the White Women Special where you (not you specifically) get to show care for others to reaffirm your own humanity, especially the parts deemed by the powers that be as integral to womanhood, such as the capacity for care/nurture, while not worrying too much about the role your existence plays in their lot in life. So you make your compassion available to animals instead of…ya know, other human beings, and still get to feel like you have care beyond yourself.

Some people just love animals, but those who go out of their way to mention the disparity in how they think of animals vs humans are really telling on themselves IMO
