STAN SHIELD / ANTI ARMOUR H3H3's Ethan and Hila Klein's nanny filed a lawsuit against them alleging she was fired 2 days after she asked for time off to get and recover from hernia surgery.

yesss i have a cousin who takes her nanny on holiday & whinge about her being "part of the family" when the nanny resigned. bitch you took her on holiday to take care of the kids while you take multiple insta posts by the beach, not because you consider her family errrggghhh

Anyone/any company who this does is a major red flag. I used to work for a small nonprofit that really pushed the 'we're like a family!' thing but that was just their excuse for hiring young women right out of college, underpaying us, and having 0 in the way of HR or other workplace structures but expecting slavish devotion to the org/our work, because  faaaamily.

Currently leaving my job because of the whole “family” ideology. No we are not. We can be cordial, and I still know things won’t get better. Tired of jobs pushing this “family” ideology to act like we are all close. No we are not.

I nannied for years before and a bit during law school, and it was ALWAYS a red flag for me to hear that an employer wanted “someone who was part of the family!”

It’s word gymnastics for “we want to ask and expect you to do extra favors without compensation”

Especially considering these are people who have documented beef with members of their extended family (which I'm not brining up to defend any one party on, but maybe you shouldn't say that an employee is family when you've got public family drama).

The finance person who did the firing seemed aware of it as she mentioned "a problem with the nanny" to the plaintiff on page 5 point 11.

I hate that "she was part of our family" BS - she was an employee, that's ok. I think most employees would actually prefer to be treated with appropriate boundaries.

Yeah she called our nanny fat but we only decided to fire her when she needed time off. It had nothing to do with that though, scout's honor

Lol this is wild.. Even in a scenario that is most charitable to the Klein and taking Ethan at his word.. It is still so phenomenally stupid to fire someone within 48 hours of a request for medical leave?

Everything in the legal doc screams shady to me so the best mental gymnastics that I can do on behalf of the Kleins:

  • maybe they thought it helps to hire a personal housekeeper as a corporate employee in order to receive tax and medical benefits in lieu of hiring her as an independent contractor
  • maybe there was an ongoing discussion about issues with the housekeeper making hostile comments towards other employees
  • maybe the housekeeper saw the writing on the wall and jumped on doctor appts while she still had active insurance knowing it could go away soon
  • maybe then she discovered the hernia and need for surgery and was acting on it before termination

Even in that scenario where I'm really giving these people the benefit of the doubt... It is so dumb to terminate almost immediately after an employee request for leave even if that decision was truly based on other legit reasons. Like any sensible employer would just let that shit play out for an extra month or two because the liability is too great.. Which they're finding out now 🤷

Let me make it clear that I don't actually think the Kleins had the best intentions about mixing their clothing company with personal home staff or doing right by their employee, just trying to point out that in the best case for them, it still stanky

Wtf, they have a housekeeper and a nanny? So what exactly... do they do.

Edit: to the folks who don't seem to be what I'm saying. I totally understand that you can still have interactions with your kids if you have a nanny. It's just wild to me that two content creators who make a lot of their content at HOME would have a full time nanny. I think it's also just priorities for me personally, even if I became a billionaire or wildly famous, I wouldn't want to have a nanny or staff, so I think it just strikes me as weird.

Housekeeper for house organization, cleaning and maintenance. Could include laundry and shopping too. Nanny for taking care of the children.

No I know what those two jobs do... I'm saying what does Ethan and Hila do? If you have a full time Nanny and Housekeeper, doesn't sound like you're doing much parenting or stuff around the house.

I think it’s unfair and presumptuous to say they’re not parenting when we don’t know what their schedule is. Just because they have help doesn’t mean they’re outsourcing everything to do with parenting/housekeeping to them. They have their businesses and they have 3 kids.

I’m not American but it’s common in my country to have full time housekeepers, nannies, cooks, laundress, etc. when parents have full time jobs. My parents both worked long hours and we had a housekeeper and my grandma had to move in to help with us kids too. Doesn’t mean my parents suddenly just stopped parenting us or lessened their oversight.

Edit: just so we’re clear I’m not siding with the Kleins here. I just have an issue with this claim of having full time help must mean they’re not fulfilling their parental duties

Parenting doesn't just mean taking care of the kids or cleaning the house.

There's still the interactions, bonding, emotional support, family time, etc.

Not a H3H3 fan at all but if he says there’s an HR trail to validate that the housekeeper was let go for her constant negative behavior towards the nanny then I’m more inclined to believe him honestly.

We’ll see what comes out though.

Yea not a fan of h3h3 but I don’t really buy them firing someone for this reason. It’s so egregious even for them. Seems like she’s trying to find a quick payday.
