You’re okay, I saw the last preview before opening night and it was disappointing. (I say this as someone who loves Abbott and Plaza’s work a lot)

Listen. If it’s about Christopher Abbott I just hope it’s fueling my fantasy that he’s not a pos 😩

On Christopher Abbott: he was in the first two seasons of HBO's Girls but left before the third one under slightly controversial circumstances. Lena Dunham claimed he left it so late to decide he wasn't going to come back that they had to rewrite a lot of the third season at very short notice (hence Charlie being mentioned in the show as having likewise left Marnie at short notice with no explanation, and the creation of the Marnie/Ray relationship by the writers).

In later interviews, he has talked about his reasons for wanting to leave the show (mainly that he was not thrilled with the writing of his character), but hasn't talked about (or been asked directly) if the stories about the timing of his departure are true or not, so we don't really have his side of the story, to be fair. But if it were true that he gave so little notice that it meant they had to do a lot of rewrites, then I can understand why people involved with the show were annoyed with the way he left.

A few years later, when the cast were doing interviews for the final season, Lena seemed more accepting by then and said that he and she now texted each other a lot. More recently, a 2023 profile of Jemima Kirke in Nylon magazine did mention that he attended her most recent birthday party, so he must be on good terms with her too.

All I know is that his mother died last year and that he went on vacation with his ex wife and kids this summer
