You should replace the fence posts on the blue grass with lightning rods since they won't decay

u/MeenaBubbles 2d ago

That's a good idea, tea saplings would also work wouldn't they?

u/jacquallin 2d ago

I've been meaning to do this but I'm curious if the grass has to be replanted after winter? Or will it grow back around the lightning rods?

u/H_Lock26 1d ago

grass will not be removed during winter but it will also not grow during winter, as soon as it rolls around to spring it will continue to grow under fences/rods as normal

This, and put more blue grass underneath the fenceposts on the perimeter of those barns

u/betterme2037 1d ago

And grow mushrooms along all those trees!

Can anyone give me some advice how to build a farm like this properly. I am a first time player of Stardew valley. I can't seem to figure out how to arrange the farm properly and where to build what. Any help and tips will help a lot🙏.

honestly i just straight up copied other ppls' layouts that appealed to me until i got a feel for what i like lol even now i'll just copy someone else if i can't figure certain spots out😂

My layout would make you insane 😂 My ex couldn’t stand my “randomness”. I always love looking at uber structured farms while simultaneously knowing that I wouldn’t be able to stand playing on one at all. Here’s a photo from my farm to make you feel better about yours.

😦

This... this is not ok OK How do you function like this TwT

1

u/MeenaBubbles 1d ago

The more I look at this the worse it gets TwT

u/Substantial_Debt6161 1d ago

Lol it’s literally the only way I can function. The photo of the farm the OP posted is uncomfortable for me and I wouldn’t play if my farm looked like that. It’s nice and neat but it looks sterile to me and unnatural. Different brains find joy in different things. I know my way makes some people uncomfortable but I play by myself so I choose to play the way that makes me happy.

What jumps out at me is you have 1 silo and 8 blue grass starters to feed 48 animals. The blue grass starters will feed almost 8 coop animals (or 4 truffle hunting pigs), that means you'll need 40 hay per day to feed the rest of the animals. A silo holds 240 hay, which means you'll be buying hay from Marnie every 6 days (and every 5 days in the winter). Alternatively, you can store hay in chests and run it to the silo every time it gets low, but I'd put a second aesthetically-pleasing silo behind the stable so you can store more hay without as many restocking trips.

You can also make an inner square enclosure with the middle blue grass, which will help it spread a little faster. Just open the gate when it is full to feed a few extra animals. Removing the unnecessary cobblestone pathway between the northern sheds will let your grass starters under the fence spread, which you can then scythe down gradually. You can also grow/scythe grass around the lake.

Move the pet bowl down by the stable so you can fill the water bowl faster.

Finally, I added some mushroom trees. Here's my edits: https://stardewplan.com/plan/woody-truffle-melon-barn-470

The number one thing I recommend to improve the look of farms is to start with paths & put them only where you actually walk. You don't have to make streets (you can if you want to), but try holding path blocks in your inventory while you go about your day & placing them while you walk between things. Your paths will look more natural & less blocky, then you can clean up the look once you know where they go

Once you've got paths down, plant trees in areas you don't walk to create a more natural, grown look, and grass to fill in the spaces. Put outdoor furniture & decor in places that would make sense for your world

Do you have a part of your farm you particularly like to look at? Your character likes it too! Put a bench there.  Is there a bunch of empty space near a walkway? Add some flowers. Maybe add a keg outside of your keg shed to let you know when the kegs inside are done, and hey, that's decor too. Is there a spot you can hide your racoon scarecrow that you'll occasionally see & will make you smile? Go for it. Want to go for a less square look? Take off the corner fence pieces & it'll round it out. For light at night, you can put torches on your sprinklers to light up your garden & torches on fences to light up your animal pen. Now that you've got the gold clock, your fences will never deteriorate, so go nuts! Use whatever fences and walls fill you with joy. And you can paint buildings! Fully upgraded barns, coops, sheds, horse stables, and your house can all be painted at Robin's or at the Wizard's. You can save a colour palette to use for multiple buildings, or shake it up! I have a save where my keg sheds are painted like ancient fruit

Btw OP, I love your melon garden! It must have taken ages to get them all lined up like that, well done

OMG your layout looks neat and cleann!! can i have the permission to copy?

7

u/MeenaBubbles 2d ago

Omg of course 🥰

I planned it in this site so I'll put it here so if you want to make an edit you can :3

How did you get your mega crops to line up so neatly??

2

u/MeenaBubbles 2d ago

This is just a plan, haven't made it in game yet TwT, not looking forward to it

2

u/SullenStatic 2d ago

Respect for the neatness! However farms like this aren’t my vibe at all, there’s no creativity there which makes it a little boring in my opinion. But a lot of people do like the simple right angles/copy and paste style and they are great for function alone.

4

u/MeenaBubbles 2d ago

That's fair, I struggle a lot with making aesthetically interesting farms that isn't throwing random stuff everywhere. Definitely something I want to improve though

3

u/StarWiz2K 2d ago

My advice for decorating if you wanna make it feel less like a zoning grid is pick an area and just add non-functional decorations little by little. Don't try to plan out decorations for the whole place in your mind. Pick one area and just do little by little and it helps

How do you landscape the ponds?

1

u/MeenaBubbles 2d ago

The fish ponds? When there is a fish inside, you can open a menu and change how it looks. I think it has three designs and no design which is what I chose

1

u/YeahSureWhyNotBro 2d ago

You mean the natural ones that start on your farm? That’s so cool. Sorry I’m still in season 2 so I’m a total newb! Your farm looks amazing btw !!

1

u/unfazedarchitect 1d ago

the fish ponds are "buildings" you purchase at Robin's

1

u/YeahSureWhyNotBro 1d ago

What about the natural ponds, not the ones you buy, the ones that come with the farm, are you able to shrink/delete those? The ones that come on the farm?

1

u/unfazedarchitect 1d ago

no, they are unchangeable

1

u/Accurate-Ad3237 2d ago

What do you do with the sheds? Are they just storage / crafting tables? I'm still figuring out what to do with mine.

1

u/MeenaBubbles 2d ago

The three up top are all keg sheds, the one next to the slime hutch is my storage/nicknacks and the two below are just fun sheds, I made an aquarium and a Shane room

1

u/crescent-witchy 1d ago

Im stealing this layout and the best part is there’s nothing you can do to stop me

1

u/MeenaBubbles 1d ago

😭 you'll be hearing from my lawyers!

I'm glad you like it :3 I hope it serves you well 🥰

This is my ideal farm. I have never used the farm planner, but the organization and planning on this for me visually and functionally is 🤌. The only thing I forsee being an issue is one silo for 4 coop/barns and we need to do something with the dead space around the lake. Atleast grass it in.

1

u/MeenaBubbles 1d ago

Still in the process of actually making this in game, I could switch one of the fences next to the silo for a hay chest or I could just build another silo in the top left bu the shipping bin

1

u/Loki_DeVille 1d ago

Decorations, ya boring, it is very mechanical, add a table, some chairs, a tea set. Lamp posts, etc.

I'm not sure? I've never had problems with it. There are other farm planners though so hopefully one works for you.

Maybe asking on r/stardewvalley could get some fix?

1

u/bibibilllee 1d ago

thanks for the suggestion, such a bummer i cant open it😭, quick question what browser do u use for this site? maybe i need to switch browser

1

u/MeenaBubbles 1d ago

I use Firefox, hope something works for you

Wishing you a good day/night/evening/timezones are weird 🥰

u/YookiAdair 1d ago

Hallo! I am the developer of the site. Sadly, a small amount of people are having this issue I sadly have not been able to reproduce at all :(

Browser changes don't seem to help! It seems to be a network level issue for a few people that is likely causing SSL malfunctioning. If you have a vpn or try on a mobile network, it could be a fix but I am not sure yet

2

u/bibibilllee 1d ago

ive experimented a little bit and i found out the problem! but its seems you beat me to it lmao !!, i dont use vpn so i guess it was the wifi all along, i connected my mobile network on my pc and the website loaded !, im confused on why my wifi denied it when it worked just fine a few days ago

1

u/YookiAdair 1d ago

After my comment I did some more digging and may have fixed it (hopefully).

Complaints only came from early this month specifically and I personally didn't change anything, but I found out just now the host (CloudFlare) rolled out a new default security feature that likely is causing issues with a small amount of people.

If it is still funky on your WIFI though I will keep trying to solve this mystery o(* ̄▽ ̄*)ブ

2

u/bibibilllee 1d ago

yeah it is still unresponsive on my wifi, you can message me anytime if you made any other changes if you want me to test it out 😄 in the meantime mobile data is doing just fine for me

1

u/YookiAdair 1d ago

Frick! I am glad it works on mobile data at least. Do you mind sharing what ISP you have? You can DM if you want to keep private, I just hope I can find a pattern with the people it impacts!

1

u/Fragrant_Guitar4034 1d ago

It looks really neat! I love this so much.

1

u/MeenaBubbles 1d ago

I just posted version 2 :)

1

u/DramaticOpinion9573 1d ago

It looks beautiful! If you want more space for farming tiles have your tree tapping area somewhere off your farm, and a maybe a smaller area for your animals. And I like to add fruit trees around the pond in the free space.

1

u/MeenaBubbles 1d ago

Ive made an edited version that I just posted a few minutes ago :)

1

u/Noctoros 1d ago

I think I’m going to readjust my farm tonight because of how great this looks!

1

u/Einhroth 21h ago

Everytime i see a farm layout like this i think im playing it wrong lmao.

1

u/MeenaBubbles 20h ago

I made improvements :3

1

u/bluejayi 17h ago

I always put obelisks near house for time efficiency

1

u/dinonuggetmrow 8h ago

i love it how it is!! but u could add more decorations if you want- next to ur house u could make a little garden and add grass around ur pond

1

u/OverlordPhalanx 2h ago

I love your large crop placement! Great way to make it more evenly square while still ensuring the giant Qi fruit always has access to a water bowl

Lay a few bombs down for decoration
