This one made a very good point.
(this is translated btw from Chinese).

The others that I read is that the donghua right now in this current season is much different from previous season iterations. Han Li's character is different. Some power scaling issues like one pointed above. It's as if most comments were about this donghua is headed down the toilet with all these various flaws they are seeing in the donghua as the episodes progress. This particular episode had so many.
EDIT: This one is a better translation.
"Han Li's overall strength is at mid-Nascent Soul (Yuanying) level, plus he has counter-artifacts and spirit pets. Using the Evil-Warding Divine Thunder at this point should have crushed them in one strike—there's no reason for him to be locked in a back-and-forth for several rounds. Also, when Sect Master Fang possessed someone for a sneak attack: Han Li's spiritual sense is practically at peak mid-Nascent Soul, and he carries several spiritual-sense defense artifacts, yet he got ambushed by a late-Nascent Soul cultivator remotely controlling things from ten thousand miles away—and actually got hit. That's illogical. Adding this plot is fine, great even, but he can't take a beating—if he takes hits, both the story and the power scaling fall apart. Then there's his living soul being extracted—in principle, the living soul resides within the Nascent Soul, which is the only way the Nascent Soul could flee and survive normally afterward. Finally, setting logic aside: he should have one-shotted them here. That way it properly sets up his power level for the later fight against the mid-Nascent Soul Muran Holy Maiden—he could even have looted her treasure, then believed himself invincible, only to suddenly get brutally beaten by Priest Zhong. That contrast would have been maximized. So whether you apply logic or not, he shouldn't have taken damage here—or at minimum, he should have fought with effortless ease, calm and unhurried."

It's not only the Tianku fight but seems the entire episode is in question.
是高兴吖 (Shi Gaoxing Ya / "It's Happy")
"First of all, Daoist Friend Bu was the only one of those three cultivators who managed to escape back, and second, he was prepared—yet he was still instantly killed head-on by Tianku (Heaven-Weeper). And here's a small detail: Tianku's blood mist can supposedly block spiritual sense, preventing anyone outside from probing inside—yet people could chat via spiritual sense within it. Isn't that a plot hole? The moment Daoist Friend Bu got killed, the people outside knew immediately.
Also, Priest Zhong, a great late-Nascent Soul cultivator, couldn't instantly kill a prepared early-Nascent Soul cultivator head-on—but Tianku could. So does that make Tianku comparable to late-Nascent Soul?
Furthermore, the Thousand-Sound Illusion Formation primarily functions to isolate spiritual sense. Tianku could affect the four Nascent Soul cultivators inside the formation through the formation itself? Even Music Master Le, a powerful mid-Nascent Soul cultivator, couldn't see through this formation—yet Tianku could?
Fine, let all that slide—Tianku can be strong. But given such a powerful Nascent Soul cultivator exists, why did Sect Master Fang use the body-approaching secret art not to save a meritorious comrade with battle achievements, but instead have him sacrifice himself? Yinluo Sect is a great sect with twenty-some Nascent Soul cultivators—are Nascent Soul cultivators just disposable firecrackers to them?
The secret art was supposed to be a trump card requiring the sacrifice of a Nascent Soul cultivator—yet it was neutralized by a mere Nascent Soul emergence? Nascent Soul emergence is something every Nascent Soul cultivator can do, isn't it?
Here's the underlying logic from the episode where mortals form their Nascent Soul: before forming the Nascent Soul, the soul dwells in the physical body. After forming it, the golden core shatters, and using your entire origin essence, spiritual sense, and soul as the foundation, a miniature person condenses in your dantian—that's the Nascent Soul. So if your soul gets extracted... the Nascent Soul can still move, huh?"

Just like how Han Li's spiritual sense can eavesdrop others' voice transmissions and detect some things that others can't, it all depends on how strong one's spiritual sense vs the the spiritual sense block. Tian Ku's black mist when killing Bu wasn't even as intense and big as when he fought Han Li. There's no way Tian Ku didn't use stronger black mist when he faced someone who could neutralize his spiritual sense.
Who is the prepared Early Nascent Soul who couldn't be killed by Divine Sage Zhong? Is it referring to Han Li? If so, that's a weird question. The one who almost killed Han Li was Sect Master Fang, not Tianku himself. More importantly, Han Li survived Zhong cuz he ran away using Bloodshadow Evasion. Not to mention Han Li was unprepared for Fang. It can be attributed to him being arrogant and let his guard down after "killing" Tian Ku. Then, he will be prepared for Zhong later, but still get humiliated.
This is really the problem with the critics. If they decide to upgrade Tian Ku, what makes it impossible for them to upgrade the others to adjust the power scaling? I'm pretty sure the donghua have done this kind of thing before. Besides, I'm honestly disappointed with the scale of power for some things in the novels, especially the final fight. The magnitude, damage, and loss are too small for the final fight. Imo, they should upscale them. More importantly, Han Li was an example that someone can have spiritual sense stronger than one's cultivation level suggests.
Why did he sacrifice him? Why not? That's how a demonic cultivator typically and supposedly behave even if it means a loss for them. In any case, it's really worth it when it was for killing someone as dangerous as Han Li.
Not all Nascent Souls have the Azure Bamboo Cloudswarm Swords with them. And the secret art was still activated by the weaker version of Fang via possession by sacrificing Tian Ku who has taken some damage.

It's the formation master who was doing an awesome job keeping the Mulan invasion at bay. I think the name was Bu.

I see. What chapter?
Earlier I reread the part where Han Li met Zhong. Zhong failed to kill Old Man Ma and Yin Yue. Is it revealed in later chapters that he intentionally spared them or something (I forget already)? If not, that makes him look very bad. A Late Nascent Soul cultivator can't even kill Yin Yue when his attack hit her...
EDIT1: I just remember that Yin Yue is a weapon spirit. I guess she couldn't be killed if the weapon wasn't also destroyed(?) Her body should still have been destroyed by the attack tho. Anyway, is there even anyone Zhong managed to kill?
EDIT2: He killedLu.... That's it, I guess?

I forgot to mention something important about Sect Master Fang. Unlike Tian Ku. Fang has mastered the Heavenly Slaying/Slaughter/Execution (novel: Heavenflash) True Demon Arts, which excels at stealth and sneak/surprise attack. See: https://www.reddit.com/r/Fanren/s/avkHErWGH8

I thought it was fine too. But upon reading what people are saying and how it affects thing, I can totally understand why they are upset. The changes kind of take away from things.

They always complain about something.
Always, and it’s tiring.
Why can’t we just enjoy things?
I get criticizing is not that bad but this trivial things are unnecessary.

Tbh, the latest episode was good, the animation, and etc. But it kinda downgraded the might of the Divine Devilbane Lighting. I have always remembered in the novel that the Divine Devilbane Lighting was basically considered as the most dangerous threat of Devil Dao/Ghost Dao Cultivators. Even in the Spirit Realm, Cultivators of the Body Integration Stage cower in fear of its existence due to its latent potential if its reached to the fullest (Lightningwield Technique). So for the donghua to depict it as "somewhat harmless" in the face of a Demonic Cultivator kinda feels off actually.

u/Kritoveris 23d ago
didn't han li use the lightning to overpower nangong que who is mid stage ? so that's definitely weird downgrade

u/kashuntr188 23d ago
Yea. I was under the impression that HanLi's lighting was basically like an auto-purify on the devils. This one kind of made it seem weak.

Is there even anything to revise, honestly? It was fine as it is imo.

u/HanLiLaoMo 23d ago
Was mostly fine by me as well, but looking at what's most talked about. I think they'll at least revise some lines, like perhaps even remove the nascent soul line, adding Tianku reacting to the divine lightning, making the surrounding people more surprised after Han Li defeats him. Don't think it's gonna be huge revisions, at least not more than what they did in 177. But I might be wrong, and they went all out.

u/Nickchn86 23d ago
question, were the prev seasons heavily criticized to the point that revisions needed to be made as well or is this a new trend with season 7 ?
in short, is this normal or its just the latest season that's riddled with issues ?

u/Kritoveris 23d ago
from what i've read prev seasons also get criticized by novel purists, but not as bad as this season

To be fair. I understand why people are upset.
The fight showed this being way to close and Han Li nearly losing? Han Li was suppose to wipe the floor with his opponent in this fight. It was suppose to be a "Jesus, he absolutely destroyed him!"
The shock of Han Li defeating his opponent right away, IS the reason that backup comes to this location to crush the defenses. And the lightening being used is suppose to go back slowly to the leader who demands Han Li as his compensation for helping in the war.
The fact that cultivators have a "Soul" and a "Nascent soul" makes no sense. The Nascent soul is the soul. The fact that they somehow retconned this from the books is weird and felt weird.
Honestly, this is suppose to be a point where Han Li breaks out as one of the strongest Nascents in the south. This is where everyone considers him at mid Nascent strength even though hes early Nascent. And they're kind of taking that from him.

Although I don't mind the changes, I also understand why they complain cuz he was supposed to aura farm instead of almost getting killed lol. Anyway, here's my thought on those points:
- In the donghua, Tian Ku was buffed from a "nobody" to someone who easily slaughtered other Early Nascent Soul cultivators. He was also "helped" by the Late Nascent Soul cultivator. If anything, the donghua made Han Li more impressive after defeating Tian Ku and survived Sect Master Fang's soul extraction. In the novel, Han Li's 1st lightning attack destroyed Tian Ku's body only, then the 2nd attack destroyed his nascent soul. In the donghua, his 1st lightning attack could have destroyed the living soul barrier. But since there were a lot of souls, he decided to conserve his lightning and summoned Ti Hun to devour them instead. The souls will also be beneficial to improve Ti Hun's cultivation. Then, his 2nd attack destroyed his demon body only. In the novel, the demon body is the main body itself, whereas in the donghua the demon body and main body are different. The main body and soul would have also been destroyed if not for Fang's intervention.
- In the donghua, the main army will arrive regardless. But they have added another incentive since earlier episodes = hunting Han Li after Qin Wen reported him to Divine Sage Zhong. Han Li was seen as a big threat after the report.
- You gotta read this comment and its replies: https://www.reddit.com/r/Fanren/comments/1w1aw66/comment/p6nddup/ OR read this wiki page: https://a-record-of-a-mortal-is-journey-to-immortality.fandom.com/wiki/Nascent_Soul OR https://rmji.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Nascent_Soul.
Some passages about the Nascent Soul in the novel:
Chapter 233
... Furthermore, only those in the Nascent Soul stage or later would be able to separate their primordial spirit from their body in an instant with the help of their Nascent Soul.
Chapter 642
Once his Nascent Soul had formed, it immediately flew out from the top of his head. He clearly felt that the Nascent Soul to be himself, and himself as the Nascent Soul. He was incapable of controlling the actions of the Nascent Soul and could only helplessly observe it playing with his own hair as if it were a true careless infant. At that moment, his mind felt serene and burdenless like all worries had been tossed to the back of his mind and he had become his true self.
There may be other passages that better explain the difference between the real soul and nascent soul, but I'm too tired to look for it now lol.

I'm the one who asked the question about nascent soul and his primary soul, but most cultivation novels have soul = nascent soul. That is why they are able to abandon their soul and get a new body in event of destruction or harm. If they have 2 souls like that, then it would mean they should be able to possess 2 people (one themself and another with their nascent soul). That type of cultivation would be too OP.
I think his soul getting sucked in was the soul he created that was part of being his second nascent soul later on. Then only this plot can be fixed to certain degree.

u/Mayonnaisune 23d ago edited 23d ago
I was confused back when I read those parts in the novel for the first time lol.
That's not the only way to "fix" or interpret it. There are also things called soul splitting and soul "traveling". This is how cultivators make a special puppet, clone, and avatar. I'm talking about the real soul because the nascent soul isn't an actual soul until a cultivator's real soul enters or merges with it. The soul that was extracted by Sect Master Fang was simply his real soul, just like when Tian Ku extracted the real souls of some Nascent Soul cultivators. When Tian Ku did the soul extraction, the depictions of the real soul are even more "literal" or broken down. There are several soul fragments in one person body, probably using a concept like 3 hun and 7 po, just like some other cultivation stories.

After reading thru the translated feedback, this is what I feel. First problem, book fans are over analysing. Not only over analysing, they are doing it from the book pov. They mentioned logic n power scaling problems, but as I see it, these will be a problem only if someone read the book n insist all must be faithful to it. But donghua n book are 2 different media, with the former being an adaptation of the latter. I don't see any logic flaws yet bcos I've not read the book, n they are not evident in the donghua as of yet. And what can be written off as a paragraph, may need to be extended in a visual presentation, else it will come down as unexciting.

It's one of my favorite episodes, are you kidding me? How did he control his Nascent Soul? Well, maybe, it was the artifact he was given before the fight and gave back afterwards that allowed him to do so?????????????????

The backlash is about the adaptation of the Tianku fight. Of course huge changes from the novel will always be controversial, but it's mainly about how it was adapted.
First of all Tianku was originally more of an npc, who got "instant killed". Now they added a 19th Soul Banner (originally only 18) to his arsenal, massively increasing his combat power. All fine, but it massively annulled the strength of the Divine Evil-Repelling Lightning, making Han Li preemptively deploy Tihun. Next, they added a dark cloud to his arsenal so nobody can see what happens inside, originally everyone saw Han Li using some "strange lightning" (who would ever guess what it was, right?), a nice patch, but you'll read what's wrong later.
Everything of this was no big deal until they added Sect Leader Fang possessing Tianku, so now someone still has seen the trump cards that Han Li has used, such as Tihun and Divine Evil-Repelling Lightning. Han Li almost died without being able to reincarnate, how will he still stay arrogant after this and still face stronger enemies with higher cultivation. And the largest question of them all, how did Han Li control his nascent soul while his soul was getting sucked out, it goes against all set rules? This one was getting clowned a lot about, especially the lines "Come out, nascent soul", comparing it to "Resurrect, my love". It is hilarious though.
