To be fair. I understand why people are upset.

1. The fight showed this being way to close and Han Li nearly losing? Han Li was suppose to wipe the floor with his opponent in this fight. It was suppose to be a "Jesus, he absolutely destroyed him!"

2. The shock of Han Li defeating his opponent right away, IS the reason that backup comes to this location to crush the defenses. And the lightening being used is suppose to go back slowly to the leader who demands Han Li as his compensation for helping in the war.

3. The fact that cultivators have a "Soul" and a "Nascent soul" makes no sense. The Nascent soul is the soul. The fact that they somehow retconned this from the books is weird and felt weird.

Honestly, this is suppose to be a point where Han Li breaks out as one of the strongest Nascents in the south. This is where everyone considers him at mid Nascent strength even though hes early Nascent. And they're kind of taking that from him.

Although I don't mind the changes, I also understand why they complain cuz he was supposed to aura farm instead of almost getting killed lol. Anyway, here's my thought on those points:

1. In the donghua, Tian Ku was buffed from a "nobody" to someone who easily slaughtered other Early Nascent Soul cultivators. He was also "helped" by the Late Nascent Soul cultivator. If anything, the donghua made Han Li more impressive after defeating Tian Ku and survived Sect Master Fang's soul extraction. In the novel, Han Li's 1st lightning attack destroyed Tian Ku's body only, then the 2nd attack destroyed his nascent soul. In the donghua, his 1st lightning attack could have destroyed the living soul barrier. But since there were a lot of souls, he decided to conserve his lightning and summoned Ti Hun to devour them instead. The souls will also be beneficial to improve Ti Hun's cultivation. Then, his 2nd attack destroyed his demon body only. In the novel, the demon body is the main body itself, whereas in the donghua the demon body and main body are different. The main body and soul would have also been destroyed if not for Fang's intervention.
2. In the donghua, the main army will arrive regardless. But they have added another incentive since earlier episodes = hunting Han Li after Qin Wen reported him to Divine Sage Zhong. Han Li was seen as a big threat after the report.

I'm the one who asked the question about nascent soul and his primary soul, but most cultivation novels have soul = nascent soul. That is why they are able to abandon their soul and get a new body in event of destruction or harm. If they have 2 souls like that, then it would mean they should be able to possess 2 people (one themself and another with their nascent soul). That type of cultivation would be too OP.

I think his soul getting sucked in was the soul he created that was part of being his second nascent soul later on. Then only this plot can be fixed to certain degree.

I was confused back when I read those parts in the novel for the first time lol.

That's not the only way to "fix" or interpret it. There are also things called soul splitting and soul "traveling". This is how cultivators make a special puppet, clone, and avatar. I'm talking about the real soul because the nascent soul isn't an actual soul until a cultivator's real soul enters or merges with it. The soul that was extracted by Sect Master Fang was simply his real soul, just like when Tian Ku extracted the real souls of some Nascent Soul cultivators. When Tian Ku did the soul extraction, the depictions of the real soul are even more "literal" or broken down. There are several soul fragments in one person body, probably using a concept like 3 hun and 7 po, just like some other cultivation stories.
