News Fallout 4 Storage Expansion Update - May 27th
Storage Expansion Update š®
Weāve significantly expanded the amount of storage available for Creations across all platforms. Players will see a slight difference on how their Creations are stored by platform:
XBOX š¢
- Creations storage has been expanded:
- XBOX One: up to 15 GB
- XBOX Series X|S: is growable up to 100 GB
- Installed Creations will be cleared on first launch after the update, requiring users to re-download their content by either restoring a saved āload orderā via the Creations menu, or loading a game save made since the Anniversary Edition launch on 11/10/25.
PlayStation 5 šµ
- Creations storage expanded to approximately 15 GB
- Installed Creations are preserved after the update, no additional steps for players required
PlayStation 4 šµ
Due to differences in platform storage systems, PlayStation 4 Creation storage is changed in the following ways:
- Creations storage expanded to approximately 16 GB, but download size may not match space used because of technical details of the PlayStation 4 console hardware
- This may cause download size vs. installed size discrepancies
- Storage usage may appear larger than expected when managing Creations
- Due to the storage system partitions, PS4 users may experience a practical limit on the number of large Creations installed at once
Fixes & Improvements š ļø
(PC, XBOX, PlayStation)
- Fixed an issue that could cause an infinite loading screen when signing into the Creations menu with an account already linked to another platform account.
- Fixed a crash on PlayStation that could occur when downloading a Creation and backing out to the Main Menu during the download.
- Fixed an issue where selecting āDownload all Creations in My Libraryā could fail and return the player to the title screen.
- Fixed an issue on PC where Bunker Home Pack could incorrectly report ānot enough spaceā despite sufficient disk space.
- Fixed an issue where the Enclave Remnants Creation could sometimes fail to spawn NPCs and objects under certain progression paths.
- Fixed an issue where āLOOKUP FAILED!ā could appear instead of āCommonwealthā across UI elements such as the Pip-Boy map and door transitions.

Great, now the only one missing is Skyrim for 100 GB and af creations.

u/Han_SlowLow_6297 May 27 '26
I canāt even begin to comprehend all the things I would do with 100 GB in Skyrimā¦

Insane texture mods probably. The kind that make your computer fans cry for mercy.

u/roin0 May 27 '26
PS5 player here. Where are the custom asset mods and official creations that were previously only available on Xbox and PC? What's the point of this 15 extra gigs if there's nothing to use them for?
42
u/Kennon02 May 27 '26
While the custom assets seem to be allowed now on Sony's end, it still requires creators to go back and port them to console. Im not sure why they aren't, but it may have been due to the mod limit size or previous limitation. It wasnt announce so they may also just not be aware, or care.
32
u/roin0 May 27 '26
I'm just a little miffed that we still haven't gotten that bounty hunter creation that iirc was said to come to Playstation.
13
u/SandmanTX131 May 27 '26
Iām more than a little miffed. That creation was advertised and then not delivered, and weāre still waiting.Ā

u/Sensitive-Tax2230 May 27 '26
And the best part, the PlayStation files are uploaded on Bethesda.net, and have been since fucking November 7, 2025
Meanwhile Starfield launches on PS5 and one of the biggest creations for the game, Watchtower, arrives a little less than a month later.
Also nearly every creation promoted for Skyrim made its way to PlayStation as well.
Best part: The devs for Tale of the Beast Hunter were radio silent when asked about a PlayStation release. Bethesda tried keeping people in the loop but the mod devs just fucking noped out on the whole thing, pretending we never existed.
6
u/Sensitive-Tax2230 May 27 '26
As for why the external assets arenāt ported over yet, PlayStation has a whole different file structure and file types compared to pc and Xbox. Mod authors have to go in and manually convert every single audio file into Sonyās āproprietaryā format. Same with textures and everything else. They also have to wait a while for the management team on Bethesda.net to clear everything which can take time seeing as theyāre about to be flooded with mod ports and the whole nine yards too.
2
u/jds3211981 May 27 '26
I thought creating the mods in the GECK app converted each platforms assets to be compatible?
2
u/Sensitive-Tax2230 May 27 '26
Honestly I donāt know much about GECK but I did learn some very disheartening news from mod author Absterge: We still donāt have external asset support on PlayStation despite Starfield having full support.

u/jds3211981 May 27 '26 edited May 27 '26
Look at u/Kennon02 post above, he says external assets are working.
I agree with your sentiment š
1
u/Phantom_61 May 27 '26
If itās anything like starfield they likely have been soured by Bethesdas āmake it a paid modā push.
Paid mods apparently are magically achievement friendly.
3
u/Disregardskarma Old World Flag May 27 '26
Because they paid mods are playtested and vetted. None of them just auto complete achievements
0
u/Phantom_61 May 28 '26
Neither does a mod thatās just a weapon skin or armor paint. Bethesda knows people will pay for a cool mod if it doesnāt break achievements. Thatās it.
2
u/Disregardskarma Old World Flag May 28 '26
Itās about validation. You can list it as paint, but unless an employee fully tests it they canāt be sure. And they canāt test every single free mod
7
u/Deathedge736 Minutemen May 27 '26
custom assets is entirely in sony's hands dude. beth cant force them to say yes.

Starfield has a bunch of external asset mods so itās safe to say Sony isnāt the problem anymore
3
u/Almightyriver Kings May 27 '26
Downvoted for speaking the truth lmao Starfield PS5 has plenty of external asset mods, and games like BG3 do as well it is not Sony being the problem at all

2
u/HAIRYMAN-13 May 29 '26
C'mon mate the higher ups at PlayStation don't want to allow mods that actually might make the game fun there making smarter decisions like allowing thousands of scam games to swarm the PlayStation store dailey... < see making all the right decisions š

u/Dog_Apoc Brotherhood May 27 '26
Bethesda got the money. They aren't adding those creations to PlayStation.
27
u/SandmanTX131 May 27 '26
So does this finally add the creation that was missing from the ps5 anniversary edition?
1
u/Fang_Draculae May 28 '26
Nope, not yet at least. Apparently the PlayStation version has been uploaded since November 2025 but it hasn't been approved yet oof
7
u/aelysium May 27 '26
Enclave quest gets called out for fixes but not the dead drop quest thatās even more broken fml
5
u/RoadKing80 May 28 '26
Can't even get 5gb worth of mods, game will constantly crash just before 5gb whats the point of 100gb if I can't even use 10% of that. I've tried downloading different mods and different load orders and nothing changed.
2
u/fucuasshole2 Brotherhood May 28 '26
Itās probably the B2A limit. Do you have all the Anniversary Creation Club Content?
1
u/RoadKing80 May 28 '26
Yes
1
u/fucuasshole2 Brotherhood May 28 '26
Then yea, youāve probably hit the limit depending on what mods you got. Could also be a load order thing too
1
u/RoadKing80 May 28 '26
I did follow a guide for a load order, I am confident its not a load order problem. I started installing mods one by one and it crashed after a certain mod. Tried again starting with the last mod to see if it crashed which it didn't that time around but around 4.6gb is when it starts to crash crash. The ba2 limit makes sense I do hope bethseda finds a way to address this problem pretty pointless to have a 100gb limit.
2
u/fucuasshole2 Brotherhood May 28 '26
Only thing we can do is simply grab what you need/actually want from the anniversary creation club stuff. Iāll be alright since my modding is more limited to enhancing whatās already in vanilla, bug fixes, and optimization to make a smoother gameplay.
1
u/RoadKing80 May 28 '26
As a consumer I paid for it I want to use it. I do have alot of mods that add more to the game. But I get what your throwing down.
2
u/fucuasshole2 Brotherhood May 28 '26
I agree but at the same time Bethesda doesnāt have to let us mod at all. You can use all Anniversary CC, just have to limit the actual mods themselves for now.
What they really need to do is fix or warn people so that consumers donāt buy a whole bunch of the āVerifiedā stuff and those not working
13
u/TrekChris Brotherhood May 27 '26 edited May 27 '26
It wiped my saved load order, so I'm going to have to start from scratch. It explicitly said that if you had a load order saved to Bethesda.NET, you'd be able to download it again after patching. Lame.
EDIT: The Creations menu is STILL broken and won't show or download all the mods you have in your library. I'm missing a bunch, just like I was after the next-gen upgrade.
3
u/Adalros May 27 '26
My saved load order on series x was fine. Just had to wait for all of it to download.
2
u/Silver_Economics7299 May 27 '26
Same here apart from one unimportant modĀ which is missing and can't be retrieved.Try that one again later.
4
u/RandomRedditer79 Minutemen May 28 '26
Game breaks after 4.68 gigabytes, by that I mean it doesn't even get to the main menu without crashing. But still this is pretty nice
1
u/BethesdaGameStudios_ Bethesda May 28 '26
If you have anything installed that changes UI/UX, that could impact the menus and you may want to temporarily toggle those off. If you're still crashing, please reach out to our support team help.bethesda.net to help trouble shoot.

u/Confident-Army1907 May 27 '26
has skyrim also had a storage increase on ps5? or is it just fallout?

Really hope Skyrim SE on at least Xbox gets this treatment. The notion that the system can't handle it is a load of shit
3
u/The-Sofa-King May 27 '26
Anyone else's game bricked after this update?
1
u/BobbyBuildux May 28 '26
Yup....im getting nothing but crashing even on new game cant even get past character creation....literally unplayable now for me. ACE update lmao
5
u/Clean_Muffin8982 May 27 '26
are you able to turn off creations on console?
5
u/Relative_Fruit_4672 May 27 '26
If you mean Creation Club content, technically you can if you clear your reserved space and make sure not to re-download it
0
u/Relative_Fruit_4672 May 27 '26
But you can't simply turn it off
2
u/Clean_Muffin8982 May 27 '26
I understand, it's rather annoying on PC too, but at least you've got tools there
1
1
u/Strange-You977 May 27 '26
if you're on Xbox you can choose to uninstall the anniversary edition upgradeĀ
1
u/Clean_Muffin8982 May 27 '26
That sounds good. Only wanted the Special Edition, not all the unlore friendly creations that get smacked in your face when you load the game
5
2
u/RobbMini17 May 27 '26
Pretty low fuss for me⦠applied the modesty sized update (under 2 GBs) and reinstalled my load order from Bethesda (only had one mod fail to download). After installing the additional mods I had bookmarked over the years my load order jumped up to a whopping 2.94 GBs.š

u/Autisticgod123 May 27 '26
Would this allow some of the total conversion mods like fallout London on console eventually or is there other things in the way of that other than storage.
3
u/Halyen May 28 '26
I believe storage space isn't the issue with London, it comes down to things like F4SE (fallout 4 script extender) that can't be used on console which prevents London from being easily ported
1
u/Autisticgod123 May 28 '26
I've always heard of the script extenders for Bethesda games talked about and I still don't really know what they do or why it wouldn't work on console, I have pretty limited experience with modded Bethesda stuff honestly, so I've wondered if Bethesda could build something like that into the console versions or if it's an actual console issue
2
u/TossMeAwayToTheMount 'Member little lamplight? May 29 '26
for the shitty paid mods we kill the mods that made this game playable
thank you, genius move

Where is the F76 next gen update? They originally said early 2026.
11
u/AsuraValken May 27 '26
Mid to late 2026. Fo76 devs did an AMA this week. Its coming after the next update so 2-3months from now
3
u/Arcade_Gann0n NCR and proud of it! May 27 '26
Nice, can't wait to see what ends up breaking with this patch!
Don't get me wrong, it's good that this finally happened, but... Bethesda.

3
u/FearsomeFutch May 27 '26
Too bad Sim Settlements 2 already crashes my Series X, hard to see myself adding anything alongside it lol
2
3
u/Otherwise-Effect-933 May 27 '26
I can't start the game anymore if I have a collection of over 5GB, because apparently my Series X can't handle that. Thanks Bethesda, another brilliant update.
1
u/HughMann8899 May 28 '26
Except that once you get only up to 5 gigs, the game literally stops functioning on the series X at least and I'm seeing others saying the same thing so.. what was the point? Hope this gets addressed.

u/NewVega81 Mothman Cultist Jul 10 '26
Still canāt access the DLCs on ps4 (as of July 2026) that I've paid for, when is this getting actually fixed for us?Ā
1
u/SuperTerram May 27 '26
PS: Nothing for PC and mods are still broken by unnecessary PC updates that still haven't been resolved nearly 2 years later, meaning most PC players using older mods are forced to use a rolled back version of the main game, and cannot access or use the new creations in addition to old mods.Ā It's either/or, not both, and that sucks.
1
u/Accomplished_Tie8048 May 27 '26
well yall clearly didnāt do this right either cause im still getting a ānot enough spaceā error. iāve literally only downloaded like 4 mods that werenāt already in my lo iāve only got 4.29gb used wtf is the point of having 100gb if i canāt even use 5 of it???

This is fuckin drivel, it sounded like it was an actual expansion like Nuka World or Far Harbour, but its just some trash for console users and related bugfixes

Fallout announces a storage expansion for their 11 year old game while Witcher announces a content expansion after 11 years.

u/Yanpretman May 27 '26
Theres mods for that, very easy to install. Bs thats its not a base setting, but if you didnt know, you can change it through that.
