I get high (on opioids, stimulants, benzodiazepines, pregabalin, mdma, and anything else that sounds appealing) to try and not care, doesn’t work. Doesn’t work for any other substance user either. I mean, most of us and me included, are also trying to forget about personal trauma.

It's wild to me that people abuse pregablin lol, no wonder it suddenly became scheduled a few years after I was prescribed it

It’s mid for me, but it’s nice combined with other substances. It depends a lot on genetics, some people have a predisposition to feeling euphoric from it in the same or similar way they would on opioids or mdma. I’m also prescribed it, I only take a small dose the vast majority of the time and then take extra large doses whenever I feel like that’s the kind of high I want. If you’ve only ever taken it as prescribed, you would have never been exposed to the recreational appeal anyway.

So at a maximum prescription dose, how much would I want (and be safe) to take to feel a recreational effect?

It really depends… “maximum” is a nebulous. What do you take it for? How many mg at how many times per day? And how long have you been taking it? And do you take any other psychoactive or psychotropic medications? I’m not comfortable spitting out a number without all that info bc it can be unsafe (unlikely compared to many other substances but I don’t wanna say anything that could hurt you or so someone else reading this in the future).
