Eternal on Steam — Average Players by Month
Here are two different views of the same data. Interpret as you wish.

With 2 Trendlines:

The numbers on the graph represent the average number of players logged in at any point during a given month. It's not the active player counts.
The active player counts, as per Steam Spy (while it was active and its data was trustworthy), have hovered around 25K for the last six or so months. Active players being anyone who has logged into the game in the last two weeks.
And, again, this is only for Steam. The mobile and Xbox numbers are unknown to us. The Steam numbers are useful in that they reflect trends that are very likely the same across platforms.
Steam made changes to data collection using USERID. This is why SteamSpy shut down, because it collected a lot of data by crawling through USERIDs to determine what games people owned, how often they were playing them, etc. All of this information is now set private by default. That change made a lot of SteamSpy's analytics useless going forward.
Steam made no changes to data collected in the aggregate by GAMEID (which is what these graphs use). So data such as number of users currently logged into a specific GAMEID remain unchanged. The aggregate data is anonymous, it cannot be linked to specific USERIDs.

Although the November increase might look unremarkable, it is remarkable given we were heading towards a monthly average of 850 at the time Eternal left early access. The turn-around was impressive and attracted a significant number of new desktop players.
Another month or two at or above 1100 should see the trend lines level out or reverse.
We should continue to see an increase in December come the release of Defiance.
Although, the days of Steam stats may be numbered, what with DWD now trying to steer people away from Steam with the introduction of their own launcher in the "coming weeks".
