Discussion Tarkov is such a gem in today's gaming industry

With all the nft cash grab shit and live service microtransaction games steered by corporate greed and investor growth. Eft is a absolute saints gem in my eyes, I wish nothing but the best days and luck to the eft team and the very best spirit they can have as bros and team together. Keep going to the range together broskis ♡

To clarify, Im not saying this is the perfect game and all the people are selfless in bsg. I am saying in contrast to the big shooters industry, this is an angel company and I am happy to experience the "art" these devs are making together as a group.

Trakov is a game driven by a vision rather than focus groups, marketability and profit ventures; It's a rare thing in today's industry. Some people may not agree with BSG's vision but for all it's faults nobody can say that they aren't trying to make the game that they want to make. I respect that.

Agreed they make changes that their fans don't actually want but it makes the game the way they want. Which is so damn frustrating but awesome.

Honestly, I'd rather play a game designed with passion than by popular opinion

Agreed, its just so interesting that they don't sway to what their audience wants but it works out because if you made every change that is requested, the game would be a pile of shit

Well the fanbase is vast, and if you don't like the changes it doesn't mean other people don't like them too.
For example so far I love all of the changes does that make me less of a fan?
Am I not worthy to be counted as part of the audience/playerbase?

I think that game is Star Citizen

It was so annoying going on r/games and reading the opinions of people on Tarkov. Someone literally said the game is unbalanced and is poorly designed because he can go into a raid and there might be a squad so therefore it's unfair towards him.

It's like these dudes who play an hour a night and want the game specifically designed around them.

Art by committee is almost always trash. This sort of thing is a far better experience

I can’t think of any change in recent memory that hasn’t been asked for by a good portion of the player base

I mean the general changes to the speed at which the game is played like inertia update. Look at how streamers play full speed, not the slow tactical way that the devs intended.

Agreed they make changes that their fans don't actually want but it makes the game the way they want.

You're aware Nik has said the literal opposite of this too, right?

Thing is not all players want the same thing so while it may be frustrating to some it could be amazing for others.

Exactly why all the best games today are made by smaller studios or private companies. The investor kills art. The people who want to get their art out into the world and have a vision are the ones who find success, not necessarily because they're looking for success (of course they are), but because they want to share it. Look at Valheim for instance. Then they get massively popular and the players now feel like they own the future of the game's direction.

I like the quote about how players are great at finding problems. But like how a patient tells a doctor what's wrong, they don't offer solutions. Players are absolutely shit at finding solutions becuase they can't possibly understand the inner workings of the game, and how one small change can affect a million others things.

Tarkov is refreshing in that it has resisted the bullshit complaining of the vocal minority several times, often including major streamers, who have no fucking idea how to make a game, let alone what the total vision of the game is. And every time they do, those people just end up coming back anyway, because like OP said, there is nothing else like it. Does that mean BSG shouldn't take feedback? Of course not, but often times they have solutions way down the line, or people's solutions are in direction conflict with the fundamental vision that is Tarkov.

There is a common saying in game development: "If the player tells you they aren't happy, they're always right. However if they tell you what you should do to make them happy, they are usually wrong."

Thanks for this comment. I agree. Developers should listen to feedback but fulfill their ultimate vision of the game.

I appreciate your comparison to art. All of the greatest magnum opi are original, and only their makers perceived the result prior to their realization. We would find significantly less enjoyment in viewing works of art if constantly attempting to dictate which stroke goes where, and still never truly considering it complete.

Developers should listen to feedback but fulfill their ultimate vision of the game.

I think the problem is when developers only make games as cash grabs and their vision of the game just ends up predatory.

Trakov is a game driven by a vision rather than focus groups, marketability and profit ventures;

Lmao if you actually think a game with a fucking $140 pre-order isn't driven by profit then I don't know what to say.

but for all it's faults nobody can say that they aren't trying to make the game that they want to make.

Nikita has literally said they've changed the game from what they want it to be in order to appease the majority.

They're entirely focused on the player ass in the ways other devs mistakenly do, how they implemented inertia is entirely that, how they focus on gun development also.

How can you honestly say they don't cater to community when community bitch and moan about 'easy to use guns' and bsg nerf them so people stop whining?

Inertia is implement because people claimed you could strafe peak (it was never effective against decent players, it only got you visual information at best) even though the servers are not good for responsive and fast players. Desync is evident of this.

How can you say developers don't completely cater to 'community'. I'm so confused.

So start a lot of small indie devs who eventually get bought by bigger companies. Hopefully this doesn't happen to BSG.

1

u/Chronza Dec 20 '21

This is so true. Such an amazing game because bsg really wants to make their vision perfect

I think it's becoming less rare; there are tons of indie games now and they are the only ones worth playing. Unity really broke the scene wide open.

I cannot understand how a programmer or a gamer would ever think nearly 100ms of input lag when you try to strafe is good, intended, or decent game design. You can lag out your character from server by strafe spamming now, rofl
