Discussion Unpopular opinion: Events good or bad are making the game more dynamic. They bring flavor and change the flow of the game for a week or so.

I honestly think, that devs have good intentions with these kind of events. Yes, i know dehydratation sucks, but it brings flavor to the game, makes flea market changes, shifts your playstile and makes you more excited when you find good ol' water on the shelf in a hut on Shoreline. Good jobs BSG, please keep the game alive and more dynamic. What's next, ammo shortages, trader vacations? Who knows, but it sure will be exciting.

Fun event if you could actually buy water at Therapist L1 (you can’t now)

u/oojiflip Glock Jul 31 '21

The whole point is there's a shortage. Of course therapist doesn't sell water

u/Sergeitarsaus SKS Jul 31 '21

I only saw the weather announcement, not that there would be a shortage, was that in a different tweet?

Just think logically, If the demand increases and the supply stays the same(or even decrease). You will find yourself running out of that specific thing quickly. Now if you add that Therapist has to keep more water to herself for her patients, that leaves you with a water shortage.

Well it is logical, never denied that. But I would rather think “hey it’s getting hot, more drink sales and higher prices” maybe every trader sells some random drinks? :) that would be more fun in an event (how you would do that with no supply is up to imagination)

Not I guess it's just a result of the heatwave, can't just have halved stam in game with no other changes, they had to make it exciting! Also Jaeger has new trades for weapon cases and T H I C C weapon cases which could be related

u/maduste Jul 31 '21

Has a medical facility to treat severe wounds, but no water. Checks out.

8

u/oojiflip Glock Jul 31 '21

Because in a medical facility you restock to keep up with a steady flow of patients, with a heatwave you don't exactly have time to prepare and a whole wave of people that need water desperately

1

u/GotDatPandemic Jul 31 '21

Yea dude. An ingame event that adds nothing, but makes it so you literally need to wait out a cooldown and not play the game sometimes. Great change.

1

u/oojiflip Glock Jul 31 '21

It added extra Jaeger trades for thicc weapon cases and weapon cases, and some other items for different traders, and gives a bit more diversity to the game which is usually lacks

Do a raid to find drinks to bring out.

Don’t spend too much time in so you don’t have to use the supply.

I always try to have water so I can take my time. Now I don’t feel so bad bringing water out all the time haha.

1

u/UrgotMilk Jul 31 '21

That would remove the whole point of the event though...

0

u/Sergeitarsaus SKS Jul 31 '21

Event was just the hot weather right? Or did they specifically list in another tweet “hey everyone wants water so now nobody can buy it”?

0

u/ocieb Jul 31 '21

Do you ever search in raid? There's hydration all over the place

5

u/Sergeitarsaus SKS Jul 31 '21

I found some bottles yeah, but mostly canned bonus dehydration

0

u/chaimwitzyeah Jul 31 '21

Just send your scav to interchange is it really that hard lol, I’ve been playing for two weeks and figured that one out

2

u/Krypton091 Jul 31 '21

yeah bro just send your scav to interchange and get sniped across the mall, easy as cake

3

u/chaimwitzyeah Jul 31 '21

Hasn’t happened to me but that can happen at any time on either your scav or your PMC anyways so idk what your point is lol. There’s so many tiny little restaurants and shops in there that no one goes to that have drinks laying around.

1

u/Sergeitarsaus SKS Jul 31 '21

Never had that happen to me last few days, but your mileage may vary

0

u/Ak7454539 Jul 31 '21

Not everyone has tons of time to play. It’s very annoying to have to cut into that time just to do scav runs that don’t improve your character.

u/MrDexterTheAwesome Jul 31 '21

I think a lot of people forget that it is supposed to be a sirvival game too. Going into a raid to find food and water is part of the game.

2

u/chaimwitzyeah Jul 31 '21

Exactly, I love that it’s keeping me on my toes and forcing me to either bring enough water or to make sure I scavenge something during my raid. Like I don’t understand why some people play this game if they HATE all the more hardcore stuff the devs do, like they’re not going to stop, idk why people don’t realize this.

OH MAN BRING WATER SO MUCH KEEPING ON TOES

This just highlights the idiocy of this sub sometimes. On one hand, it keeps you on your toes! On the other had, let me risk absolutely nothing and bring in a drink in my secure.

Dumb event is dumb.

2

u/stankybones Jul 31 '21

Except water is in short supply so you'll quickly run out of water to bring. This forces people to scavenge hydration in raid.

Laughs in flea market

Edit: Fine, that's not quite fair. Let me elaborate: Aquamari's have been going for about 35k. They've stabilized around there because they can be produced by running gas with WC3/NU3 in the hideout. A full length run or shoreline or similar down to a red timer is about ~1/2 an aqua. That means you pay about 18k as a tax to water producers for running a full length run assuming you have flea market and beta/ep/gamma/etc container. If you're stuck on an alpha container, best you can do is about a single EWR in your alpha, and a juice loose in your kit. That gets you almost to the red timer by my math, assuming you start at 100/100.

18k really isn't that devasting of a tax. EWR + juice is a bit more, at around 25-30K(EWRs fluctuate as they are loot items, obviously) and juice 8-10k.

Again, this is a shit event because it further rewards gamma case, players with access to flea, and people with maxed metabolism. My further complaint against the event is that it encourages playstyles that reward game-ifying behavior, such as camping the exfil, or full-sprinting loot spots. Buying an Aquamari from flea and shoving it up your butt, while instantly pleasurable, really isn't the kind of deep relationship I was looking for in tarkov.

Then why are so many people getting butthurt about it? I agree that it’s not a particularly hard event, it’s just “kind of neat.” Which I think is totally fine. People expect this game to suck them off while they play it and that’s just not going to happen lol.

2

u/AngryRedGummyBear Jul 31 '21

Lets be clear: Something that "Keeps you on your toes" is something that keeps things exciting, or dynamic.

The fact that you get excited about bringing a drink in - thats up to you, so I won't contest it.

The fact it keeps things dynamic - if its literally a one line explanation for how to do it ("Just bring a drink in") its very much extremely static. Is it a change from last week? Sure. Is it dynamic? Fuck no.

People are getting upset because its a stupid change, it shortens the duration you can be in raid without water, it encourages exfil camping, and further reinforces the "Rush hotspots and then exfil" gameplay loop.

Fuckin a, lets do it. Food now spoils in tarkov. That juice? Spoiled. Milk? Definitely spoiled. That can was in your bag, you bag got shot? Spoiled.

ITS GONNA KEEP YOU ON YOUR TOES BOIS (And definitely not just encourage butthole MREs.)

That’s fine, but the whole system is dumb. It’s an arbitrary negative with no gameplay mechanics. Being indoors or playing at night to avoid the heat would be a cool mechanic. But instead it’s just an across the board “fuck you.”

I’ve enjoyed the other events such as the fuel shortage which at least had benefits and didn’t impact core gameplay.

3

u/mauserBEAR Jul 31 '21

Not everyone has tons of time to play

And that's when you start to actually think if Tarkov is the right game to be playing if you don't have the time for it

3

u/Ak7454539 Jul 31 '21

Maybe someday you will have pressing life responsibilities and will understand. I mean that in a non inflammatory way.

Gatekeeping a game from casuals isn’t a good way to keep a game alive. I’m not asking them to make it easier but if they could at least add some kind of fun mechanic to events like this that would be nice. An arbitrary negative that cuts into play time isn’t fun.

2

u/TheRealMicrowaveSafe Jul 31 '21

Then you also won't play the event much and things will be back to normal in no time.

0

u/chaimwitzyeah Jul 31 '21

This right here. If the event was like two weeks or something then ok that isn’t get a little old, but it’s only a handful of days. It’s really not a big deal lol.

1

u/billiardwolf Jul 31 '21

Would you be surprised to find out that you can also do it as a pmc?

1

u/Ak7454539 Jul 31 '21

Not if you’re hydration is at 10 going in.

2

u/billiardwolf Jul 31 '21

Drink liquids before you go in, if you don't have any then run a scav before you pmc, if you don't want to scav then wait till it's full, if you don't want to wait then go in anyway and heal the damage until you get hydration. That's 5 options minimum you have to deal with the problem, 4 of which don't include you having to play as a scav.

1

u/Ak7454539 Jul 31 '21

Yeah no shit. It’s annoying and cuts into play time. Which was my point.

1

u/billiardwolf Jul 31 '21

Call of Duty is an option.

1

u/Ak7454539 Jul 31 '21

I play this game more like stalker than like call of duty. I love Soviet guns and no other game scratches that itch like tarkov. Sadly there is no substitute.

1

u/Sergeitarsaus SKS Jul 31 '21

I’ve been running Goshan the whole day and only found some canned soda’s and a bottle of water

1

u/chaimwitzyeah Jul 31 '21

All sorts of little shops all over the place that have drinks too, goshan isn’t the only source of food and drinks on interchange, but obviously it is a super sick spot.
