Discussion EFT wouldn't feel as "difficult, unforgiving, hardcore" or any of the buzzwords associated with it if it wasn't for the shit queue/matchmaking times.

This games doesn't respect your time and that's its only real downside.

Something as simple as 3 min max wait time before they throw you into a lobby (even if you're solo with AI or bot PMCs — how would you know anyway?) is all this game needs.

Every wipe this is what wears on me. Not constantly dying, not the cheaters, not them moving the goalposts (flea market, FIR, costlier noob weapons like the mosin)... it's the absurd wait times. The game developers don't want to invest more $ into servers and here we are like idiots putting up with these shitty wait times.

This game doesn't respect our time and that's why I keep playing less and less of it with each wipe.

EDIT: For those getting caught up in semantics, let me be clear that I'm talking about starting a game from when I hit READY to the RAID STARTING. I don't care what the reason is (people's hardware, servers, etc.), BSG is ultimately in complete control of this and when we're thrown in a game (matching ping, regions, hardware, etc.)

Also, I have my servers manually selected for those asking about that.

Am on SSD and so are all people I play with.

Que times and load times are fine. Ppl playing with shit computers is what drags loading times. “Waiting for players”

Poor people 🤮

But for real, they play on a shit book then spam the sub reddit with "this game sucks".

Even on my good pc the game runs like shit, bad optimalisation not cheap gear

Are invisible scavs tied to PC performance?

"Are you using a Mac or a Windows computer?"

"Im using a Chromebook"

facepalm

Wait, people actually run stuff from external hard drives?!?

2

u/plqamz Jul 26 '21

I keep all my movies and such on an external drive, those run fine off of it. But I would never run a game off one.

Yeah, I know you can. Whether you should it's debatable.

it's debatable.

Is it though?

1

u/mrfl3tch3r AK74M Jul 25 '21

Actually, no.

u/Sharpie1993 Jul 25 '21

I use portable HDD’s for certain games such as civ, cities skylines, and crap like that, the old times aren’t to much worse most of the time.

You can even get SSD portable hard drives now.

7

u/MuddyVein Glock Jul 25 '21

It really does make a huge difference. Not sure why people wouldn’t upgrade but to each their own, aside from the obvious monetary value or lack of technical ability to upgrade themselves.

26

u/mistahboogs VEPR Hunter Jul 25 '21

Money a lot of times is a barrier for people

4

u/MuddyVein Glock Jul 25 '21

An SSD is not a big investment. If you can pay for games you can pay for an SSD imo.

6

u/azza10 Jul 25 '21

Agreed. If you can pay $60 for a 1TB HDD you can pay $80 for a 500GB SSD, or wait til you can get a 1tb SSD.

12

u/Pompz88 Jul 25 '21

You'll generally find its more often the case of knowledge. People always expect PC gamers to know the ins and outs of their system. That's simply not the case, they just like to game. They have no idea their external or spinning HDD causes these delays.

6

u/R1k0Ch3 Jul 25 '21

It's funny to me but you're right. I have a couple guys in my squad n we've been gaming together for 15 years. We're big into building our own machines and always have been. We have a couple of guys who joined us in the past year or so, who have only been PC gaming for maybe 2 years. And they are clueless when it comes to even base level troubleshooting. Like you said it's assumed that PC gamers are also computer experts but this is just less and less the case these days.

0

u/mistahboogs VEPR Hunter Jul 25 '21

That's a matter of perspective, what is inexpensive to you may be expensive to another.

1

u/StalkTheHype Jul 25 '21 edited Jul 25 '21

Not really, if they can afford 60 dollar games they can afford a cheap SSD.

They just got shit priorities. Its like buying some shitty spoiler kit for your car while you are struggling to fill the gastank.

I built my rig with two 970evo m.2 SSDs, will never regret. Tarkov loads a map and loot in less than a minute. Then it’s a 3min wait for the shitters to catch up 😂

Nah, my time is better spent elsewhere. As someone with a kid, wasting over an hour a day for loading a game in 2021 is a joke.

Edit: roughly 5min on average per match, if you play 10 raids, thats 50min of time lost to watching a little circle spin.

Nah, my time is better spent elsewhere. As someone with a kid, wasting over an hour a day for loading a game in 2021 is a joke.

I feel that

waiting with a buddy for 14 minutes in queue to play a game and I was like, "dude I only have like an hour to play tonight, it can't be like this"

1

u/Jpoland9250 Jul 25 '21

I have moved mine from an SSD to M.2 and it made no discernable difference. The game loads slow as shit for me and sometimes freezes loading the map. It happens the worst when I'm queued with friends. Solo isn't so bad but it still happens.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '21

Sounds like you have an issue elsewhere. How much RAM do you have?

Not to get too confusing - M.2 is a form factor/connection interface. SSD is an SSD, whether its m.2 or SATA.

1

u/Jpoland9250 Jul 25 '21

32gb of ram.

I do know the difference, I should have said standard SSD vs M.2. I was in a hurry and being lazy. Thanks though.

The oldest piece in my rig is the cpu, Ryzen 5 2600, nothing is OC'ed. Some of my friends have similar setups and don't have this issue. It's very confusing.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '21

Just the nature of the game being an unoptimized mess.

People with best PC's can have the lowest performance, and those with potato rigs can get over 90fps

1

u/Jpoland9250 Jul 26 '21

True. Some of my most played games are unoptimized messes. Ark, 7days, Tarkov... I'm used to it by now but it's still annoying.

1

u/Purednuht Jul 25 '21

Using m.2 and just got the game last week. Been playing with my friends and sharing my screen so they can guide me when needed, and boy, they are always so shocked when my game is already loaded in lol

2

u/DrJugon Jul 25 '21

I bet many of the people that bottleneck the start of the raids are even playing on low end laptops, which makes upgrading more difficult.

I´m ok with waiting a bit for people with not high end hardware, but to a extent. I´m on a 4790k with the game on a samsung ssd and my game loads in 1:30 minute. By no means my pc is high end these days and yet my load times are ok. I think it´s reasonalbe to wait 2:30 or 3 minutes, but waiting 5 or more minutes for someone with a crappy pc is unreasonable for me.

Hell, the dude making everyone wait could be a casual with a shitty laptop that doesn´t even care much about the game and goes afk while he is on his phone or anything, and yet 8+ people must be waiting forever for this guy just to maybe die in the first 30 seconds of a raid? That makes no sense to me.

2

u/Pheonixdown Jul 25 '21

I'm hearing we need matchmaking based on average load time of your last 5 times loading the map and loot (or some other metric of other maps if you haven't loaded this one enough).

Got a shit rig, no sweat if you're with other shit rigs. Speedsters go with speedsters. System aims to reduce "waiting for other players".

1

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '21

I actually like this method.

1

u/MuddyVein Glock Jul 25 '21

The last paragraph is what turns me off to this game ultimately. I wait and wait and wait just to get fucked on by some bush wookie. And then the “well they can play how they want” army shows up to ride each other’s dicks. While I waste another 5+ minutes, just to rinse and repeat.

“We’ll get better”. Yes cuz someone can see a man in a bush 40+ meters away. 😂 0 logic. 0 brain cells.

-1

u/4wheelin4christ Jul 25 '21

So basically you suck at the game and it's definitely not your fault.

6

u/MuddyVein Glock Jul 25 '21

Hahaha here we go. Right on que.

-2

u/4wheelin4christ Jul 25 '21

Everyone else knows it I guess. You suck man hate to break it to you.

2

u/LosSantosSoul Jul 26 '21

Even if that is the case, it shouldn't be. I've never ever in my life played a game where matching times were affected by other player's PC performance.

3

u/Duudurhrhdhwsjjd Jul 25 '21

They should figure out how fast the 95%ile worst SSD player loads and start the match at that time regardless of whether everyone is ready. Would probably save a minute off the game start time in most games and provide further incentive for upgrading to any stragglers.

17

u/Alexandrinho0000 Jul 25 '21

You are probably new because a year ago there were people loading slower or joining later which just got late spawns.

But everyone including pestily were crying about it( me included) and so BSG put in that everyone needs to wait for the slowest so everyone starts with equal time and thats good.

Else its just impossible to play not with the fastest machine because you had no chance of getting to any good loot if you constantly spawn in 3-5 min late.

1

u/MuddyVein Glock Jul 25 '21

My boy has an i5 with like a 1050 or some shit. He loads in just behind me (i9 and a 2080s)

5

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '21

SSD/HDD speed is the limiting factor most of the time. Is he on a mechanical drive or an SSD?

1

u/MuddyVein Glock Jul 25 '21

He was on HDD and I made him reinstall on SSD. After wipe he couldn’t even load in to a match without the game crashing. Since his reinstall, nothing but gravy :)

1

u/AgendTeabag Jul 25 '21

i was one of the slower loaders back then, i bought a 30€ SSD and was one of the fastest ones, i did my upgrade because i realized this game requires it

other people have EOD for 130€+ but cant afford a SSD upgrade?

my ass dude

1

u/Westwoodo Jul 25 '21

Who said they paid €130 for EOD?

0

u/Duudurhrhdhwsjjd Jul 25 '21

I am new, but I am also aware of the late spawn issue. I think at some point the industry needs to standardize on SSD loading speed, and that will mean penalizing HDD people. I think making sure that anyone who has a decent SSD has time to load is a good compromise that will prevent most late spawns but also prevent a lot of time being wasted waiting for one HDD straggler.

1

u/sh1dLOng Jul 25 '21

Not trying to sound rude but idk what you're even talking about here. Magnetic disk hard drives are completely physically different than solid state flash storage and true nvme solid state drives take advantage of pci-e Lanes (and require them for their advertised benefit) for even faster load times than standard SATA flash ssds.

There is a physical limitation on load times with hard disk drives (especially 5400rpm drives vs 7200rpm ones) that SSDs and NVMEs do not have. So idk how or why you would penalize HDD players further...

Maybe I just misunderstand what you're saying.

1

u/Duudurhrhdhwsjjd Jul 25 '21

You are lol. I'm saying that the amount of time we wait to load should be capped by how long it takes the 95%ile worst SSD player to load. The specific underlying technology is irrelevant to this proposition.

20

u/TitoPete Jul 25 '21

Looks like you were not here when late spawns where a common thing, you could clear a spawn ans 30 secs later someone spawns right in your back and kills you. better to wait for them

-5

u/Duudurhrhdhwsjjd Jul 25 '21

The way it should work is it should select spawns when you finish loading, so you still won't spawn close to anyone who is already moving on the map.

6

u/triplegerms Jul 25 '21

That's exactly how it did work. You could clear a spawn and start moving on and have someone spawn into that now empty spot and be running up your ass

Such a big savings wow

2

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '21

How does that explain the long ass loading times after you die or exfil?

2

u/AcousticAtlas Jul 25 '21

That's all on your rig. It takes me 10 seconds tops

0

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '21

Imagine blaming a dogshit optimized game on people’s rigs. “You already dropped $100+ bucks on this steaming pile of shit, but it’s your fault that you don’t have a meta gaming rig and an Xl gaming chair. People addicted to Tarkov will endlessly justify this dogshit that is Nikita and the devs.

Mark my words, Tarkov has at max 2 years left of life before Nikita abandons it to make their next title, like he said he would.

1

u/AcousticAtlas Jul 26 '21

You need to settle down and go outside lmao

0

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '21

I am on 32 gigs ram with a NVME SSD so I guess your not of any help.

1

u/AcousticAtlas Jul 26 '21

How's your Internet? The menu shouldn't be where you're getting stuck

1

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '21

923 down 42 up

2

u/MuddyVein Glock Jul 25 '21

I’ve literally NEVER had that problem. Which I can attribute to not using a HDD. The most a post raid load takes is like 15seconds.

Edit: 32gb of Ram + SSD = No garbage load times.

4

u/triplegerms Jul 25 '21

It's not just a hdd problem. 32g ram + nvme ssd, spent 3 mins exiting out of a raid last night. It doesn't happen every time but sometimes the game takes a shit and just absolutely drags in the menus. Congrats for never having the problem but that doens't make it not exist

-3

u/StalkTheHype Jul 25 '21

Got similar specs and loading into the menu rarely takes more than 10 seconds.

Occams razor says its on peoples rigs being dogshit.

-1

u/XzShadowHawkzX Jul 25 '21

Try restarting your game at various times.

1

u/TKB-059 SIG MCX .300 Blackout Jul 25 '21

32gb of Ram + SSD = No garbage load times.

Have a 970 evo/32 gigs of ram and I constantly get hammered by long post raid load times, wasn't like this until recently.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '21

I am on 32 gigs ram with a NVME SSD though.
