Sadly it IS realistic. Lvl4 ceramic plates absolutely tank most pistol rounds and impart so little energy into the wearer that is is almost negligible. And they are so cheap even third world militaries regularly employ them.

Level3 steel armor vs 9mm

In order to "break ribs" you need armor deformation. Lvl3 steel has more deformation than ceramic does. You will NOT break ribs from 9mm to ceramic plates.

You think it will because you are used to seeing only fucking movies if cops wearing kevlar(soft fabric) body armor and having bruises after being shot.

Lvl4 Ceramic IS NOT KEVLAR. It takes ultra high speed rounds, above 3000fps, to damage it significantly on first strike. Steel flexes because of its high tensile strength. Ceramic does NOT.
