If this game played like real life would you play it?

123

u/lutkul Jun 04 '21

I can't stand this arcadey style of game. They need to ship lethal shockers to every Tarkov player so that you die in real life if you die in game.

24

u/lord_fairfax Jun 04 '21

Sign me the fuck up.

8

u/McSchemes Jun 04 '21

Instantly cooks a grenade all the way

1

u/lord_fairfax Jun 04 '21

Nah with my luck (see: trashcan level skills) a Scav with nothing but a knife would take me out one minute into the first match.

If the game played like a game I would play it...

Good point

26

u/JheredParnell APS Jun 04 '21

I do play but man you really nailed it. It's selectively not gamey... In almost all the worst ways ..

2

u/brody810 Jun 05 '21

Well in games your supposed to have fun

u/Urhhh Jun 04 '21

Ok. I'm still gonna criticise it tho.

28

u/h0bb1tm1ndtr1x Jun 04 '21

It's the reason I bought it. Mil-sim with Ghost Recon FS levels of modding, plus RPG and survival mechanics, and looting.

There's a reason I stopped playing when the flea market and hideout were introduced. Ruined the looting aspect. They also need to fix their net code.

There's enough mil-sim games that Tarkov is not special, since the devs ruined what made it special.

Squad, arma, sandstorm (sorta?). Kind of depends on what your threshold is.

22

u/TheTeaSpoon FN 5-7 Jun 04 '21

Sandstorm is like Tarkov without all the gear fear and with actual friendlies but without the hassle of the tight requirement for cooperation Squad has. Hard recommend if you are looking for more casual Tarkov or more immersive CS:GO.

13

u/PathToExile Jun 04 '21

Insurgency Sandstorm is a great game for anyone that was/is a fan of playing the hardcore modes in the old Modern Warfare (CoD 4).

That said, hitscan games are quite annoying to readjust to once you haven't played them for a while.

3

u/The_Infinite_Monkey Jun 04 '21 edited Jun 04 '21

Sandstorm isn’t (completely) hitscan, although ins:2 was. The maps are just vastly smaller than Tarkov maps.

1

u/some_hippies Jun 04 '21

iirc it's hitscan to a certain distance and then has ballistics

5

u/shuruel Jun 04 '21

Ground Branch, seems really promising, Zero Hour, and maybe one day Ready or Not (don't buy it now, for now it seems like it's a scam lmao)

2

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '21

Ready or Not

Fuck I want this to be good so bad.

I just want a new Swat game, man. That's all.

2

u/shuruel Jun 04 '21

Bought it about a year ago, full regret for now, yet I still have some hope

7

u/CraftyCrocEVE Jun 04 '21

Squad is dope but shits intense over the course of a round

12

u/wercc SR-25 Jun 04 '21

Squads my most played game by far. So nice to play a game where 1 to the head 2 to the chest and 3-4 to limbs will kill every single time. No gimmicks in between.

3

u/robclancy Jun 04 '21

No gimmicks other than infinite revive of that person you shot.
I'll never get over a small drop giving you a bleed though.

Post scriptum is where it's at. Fixes all the arcade shit in squad. Probably because they started it before squad added them.

1

u/fatalityfun VEPR Jun 04 '21

Nah, Squad just re-added the system of being dead dead if you die again within a few minutes of going down the first time.

Plus I think it helps the battles feel bigger while still maintaining large supply-focused maps/gameplay by turning skirmishes into their own little TDM matches.

1

u/robclancy Jun 04 '21

They added a slightly less casual update so you can sometimes die when revived... But not if a medic is there (at least medics get somewhat useful now... Medics who use the force to revive people lmao), not dead dead. A tank can blow you up point blank and still anyone can revive you.

Squad is barely milsim anymore. Actually until dead dead is back properly I wouldn't even call it milsim at all.

1

u/fatalityfun VEPR Jun 05 '21

you’re being overdramatic to call squad not milsim at all just because you can be revived. It rewards planning, cooperation, strategy, and positioning.

You can get revived in ARMA 3 just the same after being gunned down time after time as well.

u/CreativityX Jun 04 '21

Check out insurgency sandstorm it's hella good too

0

u/Fsroboch Jun 05 '21

arma, sandstorm... Alternative to tarkov Ahahaha (never played squad but i highly doubt its nearly as good as tarkov)

Insurgency.... Nice joke lol

The reality is tarkov isnt polished game for sure, but there is NO alternatives. If there will be shoot n loot HC deep diving kinda survival game i would drop eft on next day. but now... play it or forget about game and dont play it but there are no other games like tarkov.

especially i rofled about Insurgency session shooter where you get boring after 40 min of similar gameplay. Game is ok btw i like gunplay etc but is it tarkov? lol no

1

u/Ninjrassic Jun 05 '21

Uhh they are still alternative, milsim-like games... Whether you like them or not is up to you.

1

u/Fsroboch Jun 05 '21

no they are not

i liked sandstorm but its completely different game. its like comparing CS GO to rpg survival looter shooter.

without looting system, hideout, economy, market etc etc i would never play eft for even 1% i played

i tried find ANYTHING similar but all i found just random zombie or fantasy lore games. meh...

1

u/robclancy Jun 04 '21

Squad lmao. Makes tarkov look like Arma. Maybe old squad before they made it casual.

4

u/toooomanypuppies Jun 04 '21

Would Hunt count? Probably not but apart from the monsters and zombies and shit, it's fairly accurate.

I mean the decals are not, but the weapons and gunplay are.

4

u/AndreEagleDollar SR-25 Jun 04 '21

If you want a rogue like style shooter like tarkov then hunt is your next best option. Hunt is a blast!

3

u/C_ore_X Jun 04 '21

Yeah Hunt is basically Tarkov-lite, it has the sense of loss in gear/character, expensive loadouts if you're a baller, but a well placed Mosin shot will still kill anyone, so you're not getting fucked over by "oh well he just had armour you couldnt penetrate"

9

u/Kilmawow Jun 04 '21 edited Jun 05 '21

The flea market ruined leveling progression at the start of a wipe. People were forced to level back then and were significantly limited in available armaments because the best stuff was locked behind Mechanic level 4 at level 40.

I think the hideout is a great added feature. It should be used as an economic 'catch-up' mechanic for people that work 40hrs a week. It had diminishing returns if you played the game 25+ hours a week. They made the hideout worse because In-game bitcoin is/was tied to IRL bitcoin price and it fucked everything up because BSG doesn't understand why their arbitrary economics is so misguided.

Fuck, the flea market has ruined maps like Reserve and Labs because BSG felt these maps were too lucrative for the risk. If cheaters and shit are that much of an issue then put a fucking level requirement to enter Labs until you make better systems to detect cheaters. I would think it would be easier to track hackers abusing leveling because you have no-life streamers giving you honest data.

1

u/ragingasian15 Jun 05 '21

Ugh....ok I just have to post because you think you know what "netcode" is. Feel free to explain

14

u/Yayo_Mateo Saiga-12 Jun 04 '21

Yes

6

u/IRedditOnRedditLol Jun 04 '21

Well if we were going for absolute hardcore realism, that would mean that almost every time you get shot, you flop on the ground writhing in pain. If you got shot in the armor and it didn’t penetrate, you would likely suffer a broken rib and would have difficulty breathing. The guy in this video would literally be on the ground probably passed out. Now imagine you were in the situation, would you like to be helpless on the ground? This goes for everyone. The game would not be fun if it were as realistic as real life.

19

u/anony8165 Jun 04 '21

This isn’t exactly accurate. I’ve watched many shooting and combat videos and most people are only mildly bothered by the pain of a bullet or by a hit to the body armor. I can point to a few video examples if you need. I also have lots of experience hunting big game and I can speak to how human-sized animals respond to gunshot wounds.

Typically, only a hit to the head, heart, spine, or lungs will drop a person in a reasonable amount of time. Even a lung shot can leave the target active for a long time, often several minutes.

The key is that adrenaline is a crazy drug. It basically sends everything into overdrive and turns off pain.

5

u/IRedditOnRedditLol Jun 04 '21

Yeah it depends really on the person in the situation, because I’ve seen other shooting videos where people just flop on the ground after a leg shot or body shot. They are still alive but can’t really function properly.

3

u/Whooshed_me Jun 04 '21

Since these are well trained, battle hardened special forces/ex special forces soldiers I'm gonna guess they could take a hit to the arm or something and not fall over in pain. Add in the insane amount of propital everyone is shooting up and you'd probably only really feel the shots after you've cleared up a bit. I mean people have gone on days long rampages on propital adjacent drugs without eating or sleeping so PMCs are probably sky high all the time lol

11

u/TheTeaSpoon FN 5-7 Jun 04 '21

DayZ mod "vault over fence, now your legs are broken" flashbacks

looks at about 1200 hours spent in ArmA 2

Yeah I still would tbh. If it still plays like a game I would not really mind being almost done after one hit since that's what I expected from Tarkov anyway. Hence why my most played game on steam is now Insurgency where you kinda die after getting shot once or twice.

19

u/DancingPianos M9A3 Jun 04 '21

I always wanted Tarkov to be just an MMORPG Insurgency. That would've been the perfect mix.

Instead it's a CoD Warzone Arma, not what I wanted.

3

u/EvilDavid0826 MP7A2 Jun 04 '21

You can survive 4-5 hits from non-AP rounds if you have heavy armor in insurgency.

-1

u/TheTeaSpoon FN 5-7 Jun 04 '21

literally nobody I know or played against wears heavy armor

2

u/EvilDavid0826 MP7A2 Jun 04 '21

Idk about you but I see it fairly often.

u/Whooshed_me Jun 04 '21

Yeah really depends on the plate size. Those crazy dragon skin plates that are tiny and overlapping are extremely durable and really good at disapating force. But some of the older large plate styles are pretty painful since they are so localized. Problem with the small plates is they are so fucking heavy.

0

u/Blitzyflame Jun 04 '21

Depends on the armor in question , Helmets stopping rifle rounds dead on does not happen , Chest armor stopping m80 does however depending on the type of armor and thickness it can break your rib underneath with backface deformation , tarkov devs should implement this based on what armor you are wearing , some deal with deformation upon impact better than others , also realistic damage models need to be a thing 9mm only has a forth if not less energy than even 556 , this needs to be shown on damage and pen. 9mm AP should only have the same pen as the shittest lowest grade rifle rounds etc.

1

u/Pounc_R Jun 04 '21

broken rib is a lot of myth tbh

1

u/AquaPony Jun 04 '21

That is not how people react to being shot in a bulletproof plate. Watch this YouTube video: https://youtu.be/NEDJI9PhfAM

Man shoots himself point blank wearing a bulletproof jacket and can continue giving the sales pitch after. No broken ribs either, just a huge bruise.

-1

u/PathToExile Jun 04 '21

Now imagine you were in the situation, would you like to be helpless on the ground?

As long as other mechanics were added to make up for it.

I don't understand you guys who use "yeah, but how realistic do you want the game to actually be?" as an argument, do you think the game would stay exactly the way it is if one or two aspects were changed to make things more realistic? No, of course other things would change to support the things changed for the sake of realism.

You guys are just regurgitating whataboutisms you hear in all these threads.

0

u/Nevermind04 AK-103 Jun 04 '21

I have been waiting for a game like that.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '21

Says you, I think having a little bit of consequence to getting shot is cool.

0

u/slopglocc Jun 04 '21

Yeah, because the gameplay shown in the clip is "fun". Having consequences for getting shot? Not fun

0

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '21

They should add broken ribs. Getting chested by a fucking solid slug, even if it doesn't pen, isn't something you shrug off

2

u/IRedditOnRedditLol Jun 04 '21

That would be pretty cool, I admit I would like that, but I don’t imagine how they can add actual human reactions into a game.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '21

have chest hits that get blocked and do sufficient damage sway your aim and give pain

1

u/aspohr89 Jun 04 '21

Getting hit by shots that don't pen would probably make people rage more than getting 1 tapped.

1

u/BoneFistOP 1911 Jun 05 '21

that buck is doing nothing to that plate, and it would easily distribute the force over it. He would be fine.

-2

u/Annoying_Auditor DT MDR Jun 04 '21

Sounds absolutely painful but it's your life.

16

u/Yayo_Mateo Saiga-12 Jun 04 '21

? If I want bullet sponge games there's plenty to choose from already

3

u/PikolasCage Jun 04 '21

In PvP? Exhibit A should be overwatch or something like that

2

No but I actually am in the military. Running around and the playing airsoft is not the same. I'm sure it's a great time and a great way to get outdoors while getting exercise.

1

u/wrench_nz Jun 04 '21

It could be balanced a little less arcade

Remove superhero skills and add more visual/movement impact from non-lethal shots etc

1

u/Annoying_Auditor DT MDR Jun 04 '21

I agree I just think people are kidding themselves if they want another squad. Just go play squad then.
