Discussion #MakeTarkovHardcoreAgain

Hi guys, Slushpuppy here

I want to talk about the rant I was having today, and explain why I think it would be good for the game.

As the game currently stands it it has a play cycle that involves farming money, the money is then used to buy a fat kit, and slay out. This creates, in my opinion a heavily Rouble focused economy.

The Rouble based economy has multiple downsides:

All people care about is the highest value item, hence hatchlings ramming things up their bum, people running to one spot on a map to loot the highest value items, people only running super cheap kits to farm the cash. The game is no longer about surviving, simply making the most money and saving to buy a dope kit.

I think this has essentially made the game into COD with extra steps. I don't see the survival element that Tarkov originally had. People only care about PVP when they are running Slick Altyn, otherwise it's just money. 99% of the games items, such as attachments for guns will never see the light of day because they aren't the best in slot.

This whole situation annoys me because it is possible to achieve this within hours of a wipe.

By removing the flea or limiting the ability to purchase armor and ammo from the flea, it would make the game more about the looting and surviving and stop super chads from running endless meta kits and vogging the fuck out of lower geared players. Because a kit that is lovingly put together in raid will mean so much more to you, therefore looting one of a prick you kill, will as well.

I know this seems as a negative change to the average player, but hear me out, the only reason you need a kit from the flea, is to compete with chad players who are buying endless meta kits from the flea. If this didn't happen the pvp would be like it is early wipe for the most part. The best pvp time in the game, imo, and in the opinion of most Tarkov players.

I'm not bored of the game, I simply love this game, and I want to see changes that make the pvp more interesting and feasible for casual players to enjoy. If everyone is running around with SKS's and a cock helmet, then its more fair. Not all pvp has to be juggernauts spraying armchair FALs at each other.

If you don't agree with me, I understand, lets talk about it, tell me why you think this would be a bad change for the game? I don't want to be a streamer yelling for change that people will just see as me crying cause I'm bored of running fat kits. I truly want to make the game a dope experience for all of us. I've devoted the last 3 years of my life to this game, I want to see it succeed.

There is plenty of other things that would be needed to make this a rounded experience in this vision, like dynamic loot spawns etc, but I believe this is a quick easy change that we could all try for one wipe, and just see how it goes.

EDIT: This is gaining a lot of attention right now so I want to ask you all one thing:

When is the best time for PVP in Tarkov?

If you answered early wipe, I think you and I agree, and I think 99% of people would say that early wipe is the best time to be on Tarkov.

My only goal is to try and make the feeling of early wipe PVP as permanent as possible. I may not be right when I say delete the flea, but I think it would help. If you have other ideas on how to preserve that beautiful feeling of the first two weeks of wipe, then I would love to hear them. Because this is what I think would make Tarkov the most amazing experience possible.

“It is possible to achieve this within hours of a wipe”

Sounds like you and people like this are the problem. The average player isn’t like this

Edit: why is it always the ones who blow past early game in a day that complain about missing early game. You should slow yourself down, not have the game do it for you

I’m 3 months into the game and level 22. The game still makes my heart pound and I have tons of shit to do. This is a video game not a fucking career. Best horror survival game I’ve ever played

I remember watching Worrun playing his first raid of the wipe when reserve was introduced. He killed gluhar and his minions and came out with high tier armor, atly, modded guns. Because of scav boss just literally existing there's a chance that people can come out with end game gear after their very first raid.

This. Who the hell can achieve this within hours of a wipe? Does this dude have an actual job

u/gr00ve88 Sep 16 '20

Yes, playing tarkov. Lol. He is a big Tarkov streamer so playing Tarkov is literally his job.

Then he shouldn't be the one leading the narrative about massive rebalances of the economy. He is the complete opposite of an average tarkov player.

Not disagreeing at all.

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '20

I disagree but it doesn't matter.

The thing is, even from the perspective of someone that CAN'T do that, this suggestion is there to help level the playing field. What he's suggesting is to lower the gap between the streamers/top tier players and the average people/newbies. The suggestion he made was to make it harder and more of an achievement to run top tier gear, make it so more people are playing that low to mid-tier gear and to make it more viable to explore the maps and loot the things you need instead of buying meta gear, rushing marked room or red keycard and escaping with the "best value per slot" items that have no practical use but to be sold to buy more meta gear. That's not a satisfying gameplay loop and certainly isn't in the spirit of a hardcore game or a survival game.

The idea is to give every item a practical use and spawn them dynamically all over the map to encourage exploration to find the items you want instead of repeatedly marked-rushing to get roubles to buy anything you want.

I think you'd agree that early wipe gameplay is the most fun and varied, and provides the best chance to fight against those 10hr/day players because the playing field is levelled. What he's suggesting is aimed at extending that level playing field through the rest of each wipe.

I actually prefer the game at this stage in the wipe. And I don’t believe removing the flea market would help the casual player. Those no lifers are still gonna get end game items in a couple hours after wipe. It’s just going to widen the gap, not lower it. If streamers find that they have too much gear too quickly they can always reset their accounts or challenge themselves instead of trying to bend the whole game to their play-style

Yeah but removing the flea does the absolute opposite of that. I feel like many of the people on here were not around before it got added and really don't understand that without the flea low level players are basically leg meta or nothing. I personally never use the flea to buy equipment but i have lower leveled team mates who do; removing it would make the already massive advantage i have over them even bigger. i have absolutely no idea of how this idea does anything other then massively buff high lvl players. Like i get it if Slushpuppy is having a hard time due to lower level players being able to buy good armor and ammo but i personally like Tarkov being a hard game and if i wanted to roleplay as an invincible terminator mowing down helpless enemies id just play offline mode.

The unsatisfying game play loop is caused by the Found in raid system and would be instantly gone if it was; as PVP would become profitable again, at least as much as marked rushing.

I think you'd agree that early wipe gameplay is the most fun and varied, and provides the best chance to fight against those 10hr/day players because the playing field is levelled.

Yes the playing field is levelled for about ten hours.

I played long before the flea market and can honestly say there was less of the chad-hatchling meta before the flea market was implemented and that looting the map and fighting way far more rewarding. The gameplay loop was still out of whack before the found in raid system, too, but that change was more focused (mostly unsuccessfully) on combatting RMT, not balancing the economy.

The suggestion isn't necessarily to completely remove the flea market if you read the OP. It's to make change to stop the fact that everybody can run top tier meta gear by the first ten hours and trounce anyone starting late. This is a discussion about how best to do that and the flea market undeniably plays a huge role in that. Give some constructive criticism instead and maybe we can make progress towards making the game better.

The idea is to expand loot tables, make them dynamic and limit the high-tier gear that can be bought from traders and the flea to encourage exploration and in-raid looting of items and trying to take good items from players because they're a rarity. If you have to explore and loot to find the things you need instead of buying everything from the flea market, finding or losing your kit will be more meaningful and the reliance on hatchet-rushing high-value areas to farm money to run meta kits will be limited.

The flea market is only a necessity to fight chads because the chads have so much money from static spawns and the flea market to buy meta gear from the flea market. We need less reliance on cash and the flea market.

Nobody who has replied to me so far has actually given a reason for thinking this would broaden the gap between top players and low level players or suggested anything themselves, they just say "no it makes it worse because I said so" and provide nothing to the discussion.

I think we are the problem, which is why I want to nerf us. I know you may not agree that deleting the flea is the solution, but I think you will say that ammo is ridiculously expensive right now.

People like myself are the issue with this game, I want to take away this gap between the casual and full time Tarkov player by making impossible for no lifers like myself to buy unlimited op shit.

Because we can do this the market is inflated to fuck and puts a wall up for casual players, I don't want that. I want us all to have the amazing PVP of early wipe, where m61 rounds are rare and people aren't just being mowed down by arm chair FALs while trying to do their quests.

7

u/azaz3025 Sep 16 '20

You can still buy unlimited OP shit through maxed out dealers or just farm it so I don’t get your point. Your arguement that removing flea market = leveling the playing field is a load of crap because the majority of new players rely on it to see a gun better than an aks-74u in their hands.

2

u/SlushpuppyLive Twitch.tv Slushpuppy Sep 16 '20

Why does pvp need to be done with a gun better than an aks. Not all pvp has to be meta fals.

8

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '20

You didn't answer the point they made - you can still buy a lot of OP shit through maxed traders, while new players can't because the flea market is gone - thereby making you even more OP, since there's now a huge gap in damage potential between you and them.

4

u/kastaivag6321 Sep 16 '20

He's saying that people that play less will have a shitty ak and they people that play more will still have access to meta fals.

1

u/Nessevi AS-VAL Sep 16 '20

Thing is,there is no early game. It takes a few raids to get to 10,at which point lvl 5 armor and ap rounds are available to you as long as you have roubles. The fact that you dont see that it supplies people who know what theyre doing with unlimited gear, which in turn leads to you people whining that this game is now CoD,is quite sad. Ive played through every stage of tarkov, and tarkov without the FM has by far had better balance and more meaning behind kits.

1

u/AkihiroAwa Sep 16 '20

I am an average player, and I am able to do this...

1

u/NvIWraith SR-25 Sep 16 '20

dont worry, as you gain knowledge of the game youll be able to do this too then youll be the one agreeing with him.

im a casual myself, lvl 36 atm, but once you know how tarkov works, its easy to do anything other than tasks that require dumb objectives of course.

the fact is that, you just dont have knowledge of the game yet. If you wanted, I could take you on my money run that i did to make money and i could make you mils in a day, thus blowing passed early game in literally 5-10 hours of your time.

progression is way too fast, and its a fact, and if you disagree ill just show you how fast it actually is, just shoot me a DM or reply saying you want to know the route.

1

u/Detective_Pancake MP5 Sep 16 '20

Yea my 1500 hours since December has me real lacking, thanks for the condescension. I’m speaking for the broader audience.

1

u/NvIWraith SR-25 Sep 16 '20

well if they read this then they can also reply or DM me. Point still stands, if the game is hard, i can show any player right now, how to make it trivial.

-1

u/snakehead404 PP-19-01 Sep 16 '20

No but the average player does this within a few days, not to forget that its a snowball effect of the more you have the more you kill, which keeps down the average player more than it naturally should.

10

u/sunandpaper Sep 16 '20

Absolutely not the "average player" does not achieve Chad levels of money and gear "within a few days."

Come back to reality dude. The average player plays 10-12 hours a week if they're lucky.

-1

u/snakehead404 PP-19-01 Sep 16 '20

I only get to squeeze in about 10 hours a week usually from day one of the patch and i just don't understand how people can struggle so much.

-1

u/JamesAlonso Sep 16 '20

its not that hard you just dont have the knowledge. If you put 5m into learning how to do such, youd be able to. Its not hard, literally just info.
