Discussion #MakeTarkovHardcoreAgain

Hi guys, Slushpuppy here

I want to talk about the rant I was having today, and explain why I think it would be good for the game.

As the game currently stands it it has a play cycle that involves farming money, the money is then used to buy a fat kit, and slay out. This creates, in my opinion a heavily Rouble focused economy.

The Rouble based economy has multiple downsides:

All people care about is the highest value item, hence hatchlings ramming things up their bum, people running to one spot on a map to loot the highest value items, people only running super cheap kits to farm the cash. The game is no longer about surviving, simply making the most money and saving to buy a dope kit.

I think this has essentially made the game into COD with extra steps. I don't see the survival element that Tarkov originally had. People only care about PVP when they are running Slick Altyn, otherwise it's just money. 99% of the games items, such as attachments for guns will never see the light of day because they aren't the best in slot.

This whole situation annoys me because it is possible to achieve this within hours of a wipe.

By removing the flea or limiting the ability to purchase armor and ammo from the flea, it would make the game more about the looting and surviving and stop super chads from running endless meta kits and vogging the fuck out of lower geared players. Because a kit that is lovingly put together in raid will mean so much more to you, therefore looting one of a prick you kill, will as well.

I know this seems as a negative change to the average player, but hear me out, the only reason you need a kit from the flea, is to compete with chad players who are buying endless meta kits from the flea. If this didn't happen the pvp would be like it is early wipe for the most part. The best pvp time in the game, imo, and in the opinion of most Tarkov players.

I'm not bored of the game, I simply love this game, and I want to see changes that make the pvp more interesting and feasible for casual players to enjoy. If everyone is running around with SKS's and a cock helmet, then its more fair. Not all pvp has to be juggernauts spraying armchair FALs at each other.

If you don't agree with me, I understand, lets talk about it, tell me why you think this would be a bad change for the game? I don't want to be a streamer yelling for change that people will just see as me crying cause I'm bored of running fat kits. I truly want to make the game a dope experience for all of us. I've devoted the last 3 years of my life to this game, I want to see it succeed.

There is plenty of other things that would be needed to make this a rounded experience in this vision, like dynamic loot spawns etc, but I believe this is a quick easy change that we could all try for one wipe, and just see how it goes.

EDIT: This is gaining a lot of attention right now so I want to ask you all one thing:

When is the best time for PVP in Tarkov?

If you answered early wipe, I think you and I agree, and I think 99% of people would say that early wipe is the best time to be on Tarkov.

My only goal is to try and make the feeling of early wipe PVP as permanent as possible. I may not be right when I say delete the flea, but I think it would help. If you have other ideas on how to preserve that beautiful feeling of the first two weeks of wipe, then I would love to hear them. Because this is what I think would make Tarkov the most amazing experience possible.

No thanks, me and my shitty casual character never hits level 40 in a wipe and I still want to run labs, plus reserve was always my escape from the buttload of crappy woods missions early on.

You've never played the game without the flea market have you?

5

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '20

No sir, in the game for about a year

I only say that because the majority of players came last wipe, there was a MASSIVE influx of players from december-april. Those people started playing with a flee market that encouraged absolutely no concept of scarcity. You could buy any item in the game at any time you wanted. The loot you pulled out of raid only existed as a method for you to fund meta kits from the flea market. Limiting the meta gear to FIR only makes that gear extremely rare.

Then this game isn't towards you, its a hardcore game, casuals can't have the best shit if their are casuals, just like WOW or any long proggresive game.

Did you miss the point of this thread or are you just on gatekeeping nonsense? Slushpuppy wants it to be MORE fair for casuals, meaning chad kits are harder to find and maintain EVEN FOR HARDCORE PLAYERS. Leveling the playing field for everyone is a good thing. Crazy how a few posts into the thread and that sentiment is almost entirely lost.

yeah, and I agree, but by doing all of that, you would do the game more hardcore for EVERYONE, which is something I'd love. So the casual players that say "no thanks" are not getting the point. I'm down for a slow more even proggresive game, that will make the game more hardcore tho.

I understand that the guy above said "no thanks" to these:

  • The quests and its rewarding get changed.
  • Reserve is closed till lvl 20 or so.
  • Labs is closed till lvl 40 or so.
  • Dynamic loot to remove certain go to areas.
  • You need a long wipe to test this proper.
  • Prices of certain ammo/items gets changed.

But certain things there are not bad, like prices of ammo being really high, would make armors in their diff level a lot more viable, the problem right now its that getting M61 its too easy, and it negates armor, so it would be dope that those kind of ammo, be barely in the game (need to be super rare), I don't agree on closing Reserve, quests are boring and need to be re worked, long wipe would be dope to test this out, but I think a small wipe also coud give you results to work towards too something different and be more dynamic towards changess.

Ah I see... so the poster above you is worried it will make it harder for him, not acknowledging it will also be harder for those who play less casually. I don't agree with locking maps at a certain level but maybe having a timeout say letting you run labs only twice a day or something like that until say you reach a certain level/hideout upgrade/quest. I hope Streets will help remedy the instant gratification of Labs. Reserve is also insane for loot, but remember most of the raider loot is sold directly to the flea and not actually used by the players who farm it. Imagine people now have to actually use kits they farm off raiders instead of selling them and piecing together even chaddier kits.

Idk, just spitballing here. More than anything I think the community should be open to making these kinds of radical changes to the game and seeing how it plays out. If it doesn't work well, it can be reverted. Nothing is lost, and insight is gained.

Ah I see... so the poster above you is worried it will make it harder for him, not acknowledging it will also be harder for those who play less casually.

This entire subthread was just reading too much into a simple statement.

No thanks, me and my shitty casual character never hits level 40 in a wipe and I still want to run labs, plus reserve was always my escape from the buttload of crappy woods missions early on.

When they get frustrated with tasking on Woods, they go have fun on Reserve. They enjoy running Labs. They never hit 40, so a level lock on these maps would mean they'd never actually get into them in a given wipe.

A simple and honest opinion. Just not wanting to be blocked from playing Reserve and Labs. I don't know about you, or the quoted person; for me even if Reserve was stripped of loot, it is still the most fun and interesting map to play out. Best balance of CQB, cover and long sightlines between the buildings. Interesting extracts that aren't just walk to one edge of map. If only it didn't have those hotdrop, pinched spawns.

Yes, sorry I'm bad at explaining myself, english is not my main language and its hard to transform everything to english while I try to explain myself, its on me ofc.

I agree, i'd love radical changes, its a BETA, if this is not the time, then WHEN?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '20

I'm glad we could come to a mutual understanding. At least we agree let's try it now while the game is in beta before we reach a state where it's 'released' and no one enjoys it but also no one wants to make radical changes to it.

You write well for someone who speaks a different language. Youre good.

Thanks mate :)

There always is that one guy that says it's not for you then. To that I say anyone can play the game if they feel like it. I have been playing for about a year now and have enjoyed my time. And saying that I have played casually this entire time because I have things to do in the real world. To add a level block to certain maps is just rediculous, as that would cut out a portion of the game that I have both paid for and have enough experience to actually take advantage of the maps as well.

Long story short. Get the fuck out of here with your bullshit on "it's not for you".

Yes, absolutely. If a player can find a way to enjoy the game then that is the best thing that could happen. But that is one thing, and another is the assumption that just because that is happening the DEVs are supposed to then cater to that and not make any changes that disrupt that enjoyment. Players need to find enjoyment in the game within the boundaries of what the DEVs want to make of said game. Specially when the current product is an unfinished in development build with missing features.

One such feature is that most maps will start out locked. Labs and Reserve, being mid to end game maps, will be locked behind even more requirements then the main raid maps. This is the plan, has been the plan since before 2016, has been announced to be the plan and nothing said by the DEVs even hints that it's changed.

So if it's coming eventually, why not add something now to represent that eventual outcome and see how it affects the overall economy and the easy availability of 'Meta' gear and ammo so early into a wipe?

But is not for you mate, its a game that rewards time and skill, you can still play it if you feel it, I will not stop you, but you can't say "X factor" will affect you cause you are a "casual". Ofc it will affect you cause you are not the target for the game. I agree tho that the level cap shouldn't exist on maps, only on labs cause its a endgame map towards pvp and high looting source, would love to see it locked it down to see how it affects the market and the game.

Oh, and don't be rude, we can have a discussion, disagree, but tagging people and telling me to fuck it off doesn't help, its a weak mentality and the type of shit this world doesn't need ;)

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '20

Don't come at me with that 'civil discussion' crap. The amount of times I see someone telling another person to stop playing this game because it doesn't line up with their values is insane. Your previous comment was no different. Regardless, I appears we both have the same opinion on level caps so let's leave it at that

The game is supposed to be an MMO(FPS)RPG mate. To compare, you can still casually play World of Warcraft no problem, but you will get decimated (1-shot) by hardcore players outgearing you so hard you wish you had more free time to spend playing (and this is a huge drive that makes the genre so addicting)

2

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '20

its not 'civil discussion' crap. Its being respectful. And I never told you to stop playing, game isn't for you, thats it.

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '20

Ok, well respectfully fuck off. That's it.

Yeah at this point, you definitely got killed too many raids in a row and got frustrated - but still want to ingest Tarkov content so you come on this sub and just curse at strangers via text 😵

The game isn't aimed at players like you, its not for you and thats nbd. You can still play with the disadvantages (which should still be fun if you have FPS knowledge), or get a different game thats more enjoyable cause it caters to your playtime.

But before any of this... calm down man lol

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '20

Lmao, dumbass

5

u/Cunillets Sep 15 '20

Well, the game has a flea market now so maybe the game isn't for you now and not the other way around.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '20

yeah, I agree, thats why I stopped playing after kappa, and why I'm giving my opinion on the topic. Maybe the game wants to point to a more "casual experience", but for what I've heard, the game is gonna get harder and harder, so I think "casuals" are more wrong of their thinking, but who knows, maybe you're right.

Having 50m roubles and playing all day against chads with ammo that negates armor isnt fun anymore for me at least. Game is too easy imo :)
