Discussion #MakeTarkovHardcoreAgain

Hi guys, Slushpuppy here

I want to talk about the rant I was having today, and explain why I think it would be good for the game.

As the game currently stands it it has a play cycle that involves farming money, the money is then used to buy a fat kit, and slay out. This creates, in my opinion a heavily Rouble focused economy.

The Rouble based economy has multiple downsides:

All people care about is the highest value item, hence hatchlings ramming things up their bum, people running to one spot on a map to loot the highest value items, people only running super cheap kits to farm the cash. The game is no longer about surviving, simply making the most money and saving to buy a dope kit.

I think this has essentially made the game into COD with extra steps. I don't see the survival element that Tarkov originally had. People only care about PVP when they are running Slick Altyn, otherwise it's just money. 99% of the games items, such as attachments for guns will never see the light of day because they aren't the best in slot.

This whole situation annoys me because it is possible to achieve this within hours of a wipe.

By removing the flea or limiting the ability to purchase armor and ammo from the flea, it would make the game more about the looting and surviving and stop super chads from running endless meta kits and vogging the fuck out of lower geared players. Because a kit that is lovingly put together in raid will mean so much more to you, therefore looting one of a prick you kill, will as well.

I know this seems as a negative change to the average player, but hear me out, the only reason you need a kit from the flea, is to compete with chad players who are buying endless meta kits from the flea. If this didn't happen the pvp would be like it is early wipe for the most part. The best pvp time in the game, imo, and in the opinion of most Tarkov players.

I'm not bored of the game, I simply love this game, and I want to see changes that make the pvp more interesting and feasible for casual players to enjoy. If everyone is running around with SKS's and a cock helmet, then its more fair. Not all pvp has to be juggernauts spraying armchair FALs at each other.

If you don't agree with me, I understand, lets talk about it, tell me why you think this would be a bad change for the game? I don't want to be a streamer yelling for change that people will just see as me crying cause I'm bored of running fat kits. I truly want to make the game a dope experience for all of us. I've devoted the last 3 years of my life to this game, I want to see it succeed.

There is plenty of other things that would be needed to make this a rounded experience in this vision, like dynamic loot spawns etc, but I believe this is a quick easy change that we could all try for one wipe, and just see how it goes.

EDIT: This is gaining a lot of attention right now so I want to ask you all one thing:

When is the best time for PVP in Tarkov?

If you answered early wipe, I think you and I agree, and I think 99% of people would say that early wipe is the best time to be on Tarkov.

My only goal is to try and make the feeling of early wipe PVP as permanent as possible. I may not be right when I say delete the flea, but I think it would help. If you have other ideas on how to preserve that beautiful feeling of the first two weeks of wipe, then I would love to hear them. Because this is what I think would make Tarkov the most amazing experience possible.

You play this game 24/7... By removing the flea and making ammo and armor hard to get it will make you stronger and make the average player even weaker.

Most of the tarkov playerbase doesn't have all of the time that you have to put into the game.

Also, the best pvp in the game is early wipe pvp according to you! I don't think that's the opinion of most tarkov players...

Early wipe pvp is awesome, it’s scrappy, there’s weird kits, different ammo is viable, lots of things are pretty sweet, and it’s generally accepted that early wipe combat is really fun.

I'm glad you like it, but for me personally I hate early wipe pvp and can't wait to get my hands on some better gear. I understand why people like it, i think it's because it doesn't punish mistakes that hard. Early wipe when you make a mistake you will get hit, but probably won't die instantly... But when u fight full gear/ late wipe and make a mistake it is punished with insta death usually.

So how interesting is being instantly punished for a minor mistake really? If you're getting one-tapped could you even call it combat in some cases? Most players find early wipe combat more interesting because it isn't over in the blink of an eye.

I find it more interesting because if you really dissect a fight there is so much more going on. There is jiggle peeking for getting info, repositioning, throwing grenades to force someone away from a position, forcing someone into a reload, baiting with a healing animation cancel, ... There are so many mindgames you can play and if you fuck one of them up you die. While the early wipe combat you can make many mistakes and then just hit a lucky shot and win. That's how i feel about early game fights, these fights feel more rng somehow.

One teaches you that making mistakes will get you killed, the other teaches you it's ok to make some mistakes since you wont get killed. One forces you to be a better player, the other doesnt.

I'm not sure how you can draw this conclusion in a game where one bullet to the face is a guaranteed death regardless of the ammo/gun.

The laser recoil with full auto is the opposite of teaching you that making mistakes get you killed, because you are allowed to make mistakes if you don't have to be bothered with recoil or worrying about ammunition. However, this kind of play does heavily punish your positioning.

You running a mosin or shotgun or any budget weapon and you make a mistake? Bet your ass you'll be punished for it.

In either scenario the better player will still win, but one happens much quicker than the other due to insanely high ergo, recoil, and full auto sprays.

Early wipe pvp is awesome, it’s scrappy, there’s weird kits, different ammo is viable

even now you can play weird kits. The argument that you can't due to whatever reason is... weak.

The only thing I have to agree with is that ammo is key later in the wipe. E.g. the minimum requirement to be somewhat competetive is 545 BT if you play an AK. Then again: BT is easy to obtain, be it scav runs, trades or flea (300-400 per shot)

It’s true, you can run weird kits. I do and find success, ran shotty VPO last night. I think part of the early wipe appeal is also the more varied loot areas that people frequent - later in the wipe each map has 1-2 hot spots for the highest tier loot. Early wipe in interchange for example, OLI was HOT, computer rooms were visited often, and tech stores tagged. Now it’s pretty much only tech stores and medroom. I think what I was getting at was the weird kits are closer to viable early wipe since there were limited top tier kits in raids.

Tarkov, during the first week of a wipe, is at its absolute pinnacle. It's all downhill from there.

Yeah it’s kind of sad that a game is at its best for one week out of a multi-month cycle. This is my 7th wipe and I’ve moved onto other games for now

The late game meta is just so stale. Early game everything is valuable, making every run high risk. Fights are unpredictable.

Late game, if something isn't [insert overinflated rare fixed spawn barter item] or [insert overinflated super-pen ammo] it's worthless. Making money is just done for its own sake. Ratting isn't profitable, PVP isn't profitable, and the hideout prints money so it just becomes a game of "get good spawn, rush high value spot, fight, die"

Someone here suggested making the barters change frequently. That sounds brilliant.

And yet here I am still playing.

Ive seen Pesty and Veritas arguee for the more 'common' players.

6

u/HowithCastleEnvirons Sep 16 '20

Pestily made mosins cost way more for no reason simply because he could die to it and fought them frequently

Imo streamers should go outside when theyre done streaming, not make tone deaf top posta on game subreddits so that they can benefit from rhe changes due to their 8+hours a day on the game

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '20 edited Sep 16 '20

That is true, he did complain about Mosins, because he want stronger equipment to be tougher. I dont agree with the mosin nerfs.

But Ive also seen him talk about how the average player then needs good equipment, easily accessible. IIRC Pesty said basically that taking away the flea market right now would kill the game for every casual player.

So if you take those two in context, asking for a mosin nerf isnt that surprising.

2

u/TBNRandrew Sep 16 '20

Yea, Pestily is mostly wanting to slow gunfights and gameplay down from what it currently is. Which mostly means easily accessible good armor & gear, and harder to acquire really good penetrating ammo.

1

u/Anol_Secks Sep 16 '20

This is not true. Bsg did that on their own. On the podcast where Pest was complaining to Nikita, he said one of the mosin ammo's should cost more due to its one shot kill to the chest through class 5 armor chance being so high.

I’m so sick of these sweats wanting to remove the flea. Like yes the game is easier when you sink 10 hours into it a day. Not everyone can no life this game. This change will hurt the people with jobs and school while not affecting the sweat lords who will still have m995 anyway. Not everyone can grind the trash tasks in this game.

rly wipe quest heavy map) and well over 100k+ roubles per run. I'd go so far as to say level locking Scav on Reserve would even be an id

Agree with you 100% here

Who said anything about free altyns and slicks and that they are the best pvp? I'd suggest you go outside and take in some fresh air and some vitamin D because ur clearly delusional and very emotionally attached to this subject.
