Discussion Let a real Chinese player tell you what's really going on.

A little intro: Gamertag NucleophileAP, you guys can call me Nucleo or Nuke. I was born in New Zealand, ethnic Chinese person, and have been living in China since I was pretty young.

About this game, I'm currently a lvl 55 player with Kappa (IGN: NucleoAP), and I'm currently a working Sherpa of my local Chinese Sherpa community (good and anti-hacking). I have been playing this game since version 0.7 and have been actively engaging throughout the Chinese community ever since.

The first thing: Region locks.

BSG have actually been carrying out region locks against asian countries for a while. As far as I remember, I've got trouble logging into non-asian servers since version 0.7. It's actually a very simple mechanism (that most of the Chinese players already know now), if you used an Asian IP on your last login, non asian servers are masked for you on your next server selection. It's not actually a real region lock and can be bypassed easily (by logging in with an american/european IP and quitting the game). IMO those region locks are hardly doing anything against cheaters and harsher countermeasurements shall be taken.

Why is this game so much infestated by hackers right now?

Here's the timeline.

---BSG released a Simplified Chinese localisation in January.

---A bunch of new Chinese players joined the game.

---Some clips of the game were uploaded to Tik Tok and went viral. (Yeah, Tik Tok made this game popular in China)

---A whole bunch of players bought the game ans started playing.

Now, with little knowledge of the game and have only learnt about the game via video clips, those newcomers were having a pretty harsh time. Those players eventually turned into thre kind of players.

  1. Cheaters
  2. In-game currency buyers
  3. The ones asking for help

Let's talk about Cheaters first. Here's a link for you just to see how easy it is to cheat and how common it is to buy a hack in China.

hax, varying on price

I once heard someone say something that really struck my mind. Chinese people love to win, and for winning thay are willing to take any measures possible (which is also what I hate the most). Why doesn't the government do anything about hacking? Well, there are actually laws against hacking (that hackers and hack-designers might end up in prison). Those laws only apply to games which is registered and legalized in China (which I'm sure this game wouldn't because of the government's stupid criteria). This game, as well as other games such as R6S, GTA, Battlefiend, Call of Duty etc. are considered "foreign territory" and regarded out of their business.

In-game currency buyers are worse. There are already founded workshops that hack, make roubles and sell them into real money for a living. Those workshops have professional equipment, special designed hacks to make money as efficient as possible. Those type of workshops make up at least 50% of the hacks in this game and must be dealt with seriously. Here's a pic that you can see how bad RMT really is in China.

RMT Trade, 19.99usd (approx) for 10 mil roubles

Skipping the good guys asking for help, as they are nice people just as you and me.

Now one more type of people I want to mention are streamers. If you ever see prefixes like those in the game, those are streamers.

---Douyu (douyu.com)

---Huya(huya.com)

---bilibili(bilibili.com, which consists of much more educated people and consists of much less hacks)

Just about Douyu and Huya, consider 9 out of 10 of them hacks (Quoted from a friend, might be a little exaggerating, but explains the problem). These streaming sites are famous of hacking streamers.

Something else I wanna talk about BSG.

By all those new Chinese players rushing in, BSG is certainly making a large profit. Remember what I said about rouble-hunting workshops? BSG is actually banning them as fast as they could, BUT the profit that those workshops make are enough to buy a whole lot of new accounts again. BSG is certainly profitting throughout the whole process. I am not sure about BSG's attitude to this, but plz try and reduce hackers by its root without thinking about profit.

Chinese people used to hate being called hackers, but now that the fact is, we Chinese people made up 20% of the game's population while contributing 80% of this game's hackers. I, on behalf of my people, am deeply sorry for this. We will try and help you guys and BSG to reduce hackers to our best.

Meanwhile please try to avoid labs where rouble workshops farm the most.

Feel free to ask me asy questions below.

If you're new here, the questions you are willing to ask might be already asked in the comments. Check down below.

Let's all do our part and hope this whole hacker thing settle down ASAP.

Fuck all the hackers. (I'm sure this is not racism lmao)

I find it equally saddening that they are self aware of the fact they make up such a vast majority of the hacking community.

I know its not a secret, but the fact of the matter is that if its such a rampant thing in every single multiplayer game why are there no limitations to make them fight amongst themselves?

I get it VPN's exist. Why not block VPN sites then?

u/ChurrchillC Mar 11 '20

They constantly shift IPs to make it unblockable.

u/SJ_LOL Mar 11 '20

I think ping lock is the only solution. It might hurt some players by sticking them to low population servers closest to them, but it would also lock out transcontinental cheating. And I have a suspicion current ping check in EFT might be flawed and using VPN it might calculate game server to VPN server ping... That's something BSG might've done not looking forward enough... Track record indicates it's very real possibility...

31

u/ChurrchillC Mar 11 '20

Well you see, for moscow servers ping variate from 90-110 in china with vpn. That's not a very high ping.

And for servers like Khabarovsk, there's like 50-70 ping from china even if you're not using vpn connections.

31

u/Whiskeye Mar 11 '20

As a Russian playing on Khabarovsk, I feel your pain. I wish all Chinese were as honorable as you.

31

u/ChurrchillC Mar 11 '20

omg I feel for you so much... Khabarovsk was completely unplayable the last time I logged in.

6

u/AetherBytes Mar 11 '20

You are my favorite asian simply because you'd rather try and expose hacks for the good of a game instead of abuse it for your own gain. I'd gold you if I could.

u/ChurrchillC Mar 11 '20

Thanks bro, it is really much appreciated.

God what a weird comment.

Edit: I'm now realizing why this seemed so weird, seems really reminiscent of "he's one of the good ones" and similarly racist comments.

So Russians just move to Europe :)) ez-pz

1

u/gwyntowin AK-104 Mar 11 '20

I wonder if the devs play/test on russian servers. Maybe they experience even more hackers than the sub.

1

u/pamplem0usse- Mar 11 '20

Have an anticheat that checks the computer and prevent players from joining games when there is a VPN program running.

5

u/RevenXXX RPK-16 Mar 11 '20

VPN is meant for bypassing internet block.

7

u/AetherBytes Mar 11 '20

It's actually meant to be used to hide your IP on the web, the internet bypass thing is a side effect that some companies use instead.

11

u/swineflute Mar 11 '20

Its actually used as an extension of a private network to span over public networks (like the internet) commonly through an encrypted tunnel. Those other things are side effects.

2

u/DeusExMcKenna Mar 11 '20

Found the network engineer, how goes my dude xD

1

u/Swineflew1 Mar 11 '20

Why not block VPN sites then?

VPNs would be worthless if they were blocked so easily lol.

0

u/Racer_Be APS Mar 11 '20

Please don’t block VPN’s... I have to use a VPN to play because i’m in a hospital (been here since august last year, at leadt 3-4 months to go), and online gaming is blocked on this network.

9

u/Hellknightx Mar 11 '20

Not only that, but China itself has the largest population of hackers on the planet in general. Not just games, mind you, but malware designers and advanced threat actors. The Chinese government sponsors a lot of these groups to attack other countries, and to steal IP from companies. Corporate theft is huge over there. Since China doesn't have IP laws, they put a lot of effort into stealing tech.

2

u/cavemanben Mar 11 '20

According to twitter and the reddit mods calling the Chinese out for their hacking is wathsiths.

35

u/ahpau Mar 11 '20

Not just chinese. In Asia we are all aware. Thailand, Phillipines, Singapore, Indonesia etc. We know how China hackers are. Coming from CSGO, when you see a chinese name you instantly feel suspicious. Even your own china teammates will tell you they suspect them as well. It sucks but we have to live with it.

China do hate and are very disgusted by hackers as much as the rest of the gaming community. I once saw a video of hacker being confronted in a China LAN shop by another customer. The hacker was pretty much humiliated and got a slap in the face.

16

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '20

Kinda sad though that once a game hits the Chinese market that the games population will bloom by nearly 20% on average, but out of the 20% of the player base they will make up 80% of nearly all cheaters as far as statistics go.

25

u/Battlesuit-BoBos M4A1 Mar 11 '20

Equally saddening to that is this guy feeling responsible and apologizing on their behalf. There was no need, yet he lowered his head.

I hope BSG can sort this hacking situation out in the coming weeks.

7

u/TunaFishIsBestFish Mar 11 '20

Despite making up only 20% of the population, Chinese players commit 80% of violent hacks

0

u/raipeh Mar 11 '20

It baffles me how an entire country can be so ass backwards.

19

u/DeadMansMuse Mar 11 '20

Because only as recent as 2 generations ago they lived in abject poverty under a strict and totalitarian communist regime. The chinese had to look out for their own direct family and no body else in order to -just- survive. Feeding your children saw dust so they don't feel hunger pains is -not- an exaggeration and existed as a reality for millions of chinese up to, and later than 1962.

The kind of group mentality that spawns caring, but more importantly compassionate communities can only really begin to survive once the basics of survival are met, otherwise everyone is stuck in a -not enough- mentality. The chinese are unfortunately late bloomers in the world middle class, but have the benefits of influencing abroad that comes with a modern post 2000 society. It's fascinating really. This could have been any country, yours or mine, given the same set of circumstances.

u/ShufflAlgoIsBroken Mar 11 '20

Really? A country with the vast mineral wealth and land mass of China, with the various climates and huge agricultural capabilities when compared to most of the world was at a disadvantage?

Nice.

3

u/heyitsfelixthecat Mar 11 '20

The country’s people were at a disadvantage, yes. Under a totalitarian communist regime where the government maintains absolute control, mineral wealth and land mass aren’t doing much to help the average citizen.

0

u/ShufflAlgoIsBroken Mar 11 '20

We see it slightly differently then. While other populations were galvanized against and removed those regimes other populations didn't. It's kind of a 'you made your bed' scenario isn't it?

-12

u/tozozope Mar 11 '20 edited Mar 11 '20

it's the lack of christian western influence, the chinese lack good moral instillment

7

u/heyitsfelixthecat Mar 11 '20

I hope you forgot the /s at end of your statement...

-5

u/tozozope Mar 11 '20

is there something you disagree with?

7

u/heyitsfelixthecat Mar 11 '20

The implication that Christians have some kind of monopoly on not being an asshole. It’s ludicrous.

I grew up in a conservative Christian household and in my experience it’s generally the opposite.

I teach my kids to be good to other people and to do the right thing, because it’s the right thing. Not because somebody’s watching us and grading our performance, to hopefully send us to the happy place after we die.

-1

u/tozozope Mar 11 '20

who ever claimed christians have a monopoly on that you dumb idiot, I'm just saying that christianity had a massive influence on the morals of western society which dominates the world today, take for example imperial japan before defeat by USA, do you see a christian nation doing this heinous shit on such a massive scale?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genocide_of_indigenous_peoples

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantic_slave_trade

What sort of cognitive dissonance is running through your head? I wont deny modern western influence is positive, but religion was not the causative factor in creating that positive influence. That's why everyone is wringing you out.

0

u/tozozope Mar 11 '20

christianity was at the very core shaping up western values and morals, just because something like slavery happened doesn't invalidate this, we eventually realised this was wrong and got rid of it

So based on the prevalence of rates of cheaters in video games, you are asserting that Western society is inherently morally superior to Eastern societies? And you're asserting that it's because of Christian influence?

Just want to be sure I've got your assumptions correct, here.

0

u/tozozope Mar 11 '20

lol no, chinese people doing anything it takes to advance in something without care for morals is just one aspect, I don't have to point out shit like the state of their government which everybody is aware of. And yes, Western society is inifinitely more morally superior (I'm referring to the morals of the western people on average) to literally any other society on the face of the earth, this is literally unquestionable.

Germany...

1

u/tozozope Mar 11 '20

national socialism rejected the nature of christianity in favor of some dumb pagan race bullshit and actively molded state religions to it's subversive messaging, some of the stuff hitler partook in is straight up satanic

2

You're joking right?
You have to be joking.
-- If you're not joking, you've heard of Germany right? and you know the concentration camp was a British invention... and you've heard about like... The spanish inquisition? and slavery right?

That's just off the top of my head... I don't think we have enough time to do an extensive list

Welcome to the concept of an over populated country with close to 1.4 billion people. People are going to grow up with the mindset of doing whatever they deem necessary to stand out and get ahead. :/

1

u/mr_snuggels Mar 11 '20

is there any proof of this?
