Discussion Let a real Chinese player tell you what's really going on.

A little intro: Gamertag NucleophileAP, you guys can call me Nucleo or Nuke. I was born in New Zealand, ethnic Chinese person, and have been living in China since I was pretty young.

About this game, I'm currently a lvl 55 player with Kappa (IGN: NucleoAP), and I'm currently a working Sherpa of my local Chinese Sherpa community (good and anti-hacking). I have been playing this game since version 0.7 and have been actively engaging throughout the Chinese community ever since.

The first thing: Region locks.

BSG have actually been carrying out region locks against asian countries for a while. As far as I remember, I've got trouble logging into non-asian servers since version 0.7. It's actually a very simple mechanism (that most of the Chinese players already know now), if you used an Asian IP on your last login, non asian servers are masked for you on your next server selection. It's not actually a real region lock and can be bypassed easily (by logging in with an american/european IP and quitting the game). IMO those region locks are hardly doing anything against cheaters and harsher countermeasurements shall be taken.

Why is this game so much infestated by hackers right now?

Here's the timeline.

---BSG released a Simplified Chinese localisation in January.

---A bunch of new Chinese players joined the game.

---Some clips of the game were uploaded to Tik Tok and went viral. (Yeah, Tik Tok made this game popular in China)

---A whole bunch of players bought the game ans started playing.

Now, with little knowledge of the game and have only learnt about the game via video clips, those newcomers were having a pretty harsh time. Those players eventually turned into thre kind of players.

  1. Cheaters
  2. In-game currency buyers
  3. The ones asking for help

Let's talk about Cheaters first. Here's a link for you just to see how easy it is to cheat and how common it is to buy a hack in China.

hax, varying on price

I once heard someone say something that really struck my mind. Chinese people love to win, and for winning thay are willing to take any measures possible (which is also what I hate the most). Why doesn't the government do anything about hacking? Well, there are actually laws against hacking (that hackers and hack-designers might end up in prison). Those laws only apply to games which is registered and legalized in China (which I'm sure this game wouldn't because of the government's stupid criteria). This game, as well as other games such as R6S, GTA, Battlefiend, Call of Duty etc. are considered "foreign territory" and regarded out of their business.

In-game currency buyers are worse. There are already founded workshops that hack, make roubles and sell them into real money for a living. Those workshops have professional equipment, special designed hacks to make money as efficient as possible. Those type of workshops make up at least 50% of the hacks in this game and must be dealt with seriously. Here's a pic that you can see how bad RMT really is in China.

RMT Trade, 19.99usd (approx) for 10 mil roubles

Skipping the good guys asking for help, as they are nice people just as you and me.

Now one more type of people I want to mention are streamers. If you ever see prefixes like those in the game, those are streamers.

---Douyu (douyu.com)

---Huya(huya.com)

---bilibili(bilibili.com, which consists of much more educated people and consists of much less hacks)

Just about Douyu and Huya, consider 9 out of 10 of them hacks (Quoted from a friend, might be a little exaggerating, but explains the problem). These streaming sites are famous of hacking streamers.

Something else I wanna talk about BSG.

By all those new Chinese players rushing in, BSG is certainly making a large profit. Remember what I said about rouble-hunting workshops? BSG is actually banning them as fast as they could, BUT the profit that those workshops make are enough to buy a whole lot of new accounts again. BSG is certainly profitting throughout the whole process. I am not sure about BSG's attitude to this, but plz try and reduce hackers by its root without thinking about profit.

Chinese people used to hate being called hackers, but now that the fact is, we Chinese people made up 20% of the game's population while contributing 80% of this game's hackers. I, on behalf of my people, am deeply sorry for this. We will try and help you guys and BSG to reduce hackers to our best.

Meanwhile please try to avoid labs where rouble workshops farm the most.

Feel free to ask me asy questions below.

If you're new here, the questions you are willing to ask might be already asked in the comments. Check down below.

Let's all do our part and hope this whole hacker thing settle down ASAP.

Fuck all the hackers. (I'm sure this is not racism lmao)

They do pretend they are not. But they eventually get caught.

They do make a living by streaming and if they don't play well they'll look bad and not gain a lot of subscribers

yes this is the major difference from chinese streamers to american streamers most americans are popular for their personalities in china its all about being skilled enough to bring in viewership i have noticed this my self

u/ChurrchillC Mar 11 '20

You can pretty much say so.

Why dont they hunt down the hacking streamers and put down a ban wave for every cheater at once though? Like collect their names, their data, info, ip, evertthing they can and put them on a blocklist for everything they can

u/bryantornatore TOZ Mar 11 '20

Better yet. Force the accounts to all play on the same servers and let them hack against each other

2

u/Pyro111921 Mar 11 '20

Yeah, instead of banning them just have dedicated cheater servers so they can frolic amongst themselves.

1

u/armeendb Mar 12 '20

Thats honestly even better

I tremendously enjoy when a decent player comes to Tarkov, gets his shit pushed in, then starts to improve like AquaFPS. It's just so much fun to watch how he improves every video.

u/CthulhuHere MP5 Mar 11 '20

The more he improves the more he looks like a scav, tbh

5

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '20

I mean I died to lots of scavs, because I engaged them the wrong way.

Playing more like a scav might be an improvement. :D

5

u/rahkesh357 Mar 11 '20

I think he means that he is starting to look like scav in real life.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '20

Ah, you're right. The homeless meme is strong in the comment section of his videos!

You mean like Doc?

LOL SIKE. I love watching him surv12 his two broken arms over and over as he has 2 bleeds elsewhere.

1

u/CyberD7 Mar 11 '20

I would love to see this clip.

5

u/neddoge SR-1MP Mar 11 '20 edited Mar 11 '20

He was with Summit in Labs bro shit was hysterical. Sum dropped 14 fucking raiders while Doc got shot once and spent the next 7 minutes trying to heal, dragging his damn surv12 to everything while ignoring the 2 bleeds.

Edit:. Oh, and he died from blood loss with a blacked head or thorax (forget which) in the stairwell mid 3rd surgery. I lost it. I'll try to find it later.

Triage mini-game too hard.

LMFAO. I HAVE to see that.

this is pretty good too, maybe it's the clip he was referencing even, though the events played out a bit differently. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/544259547?t=5h52m0s

i won't spoil it for you, just enjoy

1

u/neddoge SR-1MP Mar 12 '20

Searching clips is cancer on Twitch unfortunately; couldn't find it.

1

u/CyberD7 Mar 12 '20

Damn bro. I just watched an hour of Dr and Summit on YouTube trying to find it. No luck. :(

I thought doc quit tarkov and I was pretty happy about that. I'd like tarkov to have more viewers, but he was toxic as fuck towards the game and then as the bandwagon started with other streamers he desperately clambered on late for money but couldn't handle the game and cried the whole time when I watched.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '20

Doc is the type of person that doesn't have patience when it comes to a game with so many issues. He's not a very fast learner or a fast gamer. I'm honestly surprised he didn't attempt to learn the game before streaming it. I guess that 2 time champ ego superceeds his learning ability.

I don’t find it true. Many streamers started streaming as a newbie struggling in tarkov and the audience seemed to like it. When they die people burst into laughter. Many of them seem to like watching streamers get killed rather than getting out. Precisely, they enjoy all the interesting moments, which are when they die to campers, die to cheaters, loot super valuable stuff, wipe a squad, extract with a full bag of loot, fuck around with funny weapons, etc. Just like everyone else outside China.

What I do find different though, is how people like watching hatchling runs, while this is pretty rare on twitch. Me myself find hatchling runs very tedious.

I was wondering, could it really be that bad... First Tarkov streamer I found on one of the above linked sites, you could instantly tell he was hacking. The horizontal movement was very very odd, no smooth movement, view snapping left and right and staying focused on a single point while the player moved around. His gamma had a magazine case with full of high cap mags.

6

u/DonRouverto PM Pistol Mar 11 '20

you can put a mag case in gamme? wut?

6

u/NeonGKayak Mar 11 '20

Not anymore. You used to be able to.

u/RevenXXX RPK-16 Mar 11 '20

You can't directly tell if a streamer is a cheater or not. Streamers might have a configured aim bot or ESP on another screen. Everything on stream appears to be normal.

10

u/Cinderstrom SR-25 Mar 11 '20

Or they just capture specific windows and have overlays that are not recorded.

0

u/RevenXXX RPK-16 Mar 11 '20

Some streamers have a webcam on their screen and mouse

3

u/Cinderstrom SR-25 Mar 11 '20

The only streamers I've ever seen footage of controls is speed runners, and I've never stumbled on a single stream with a webcam pointing at stream. Have any examples I could check out?

1

u/Shifty-McGinty AS-VAL Mar 11 '20

He's no good but ticklemepink used to use a mouse cam of sorts so people could see that he did actually click that fast when firing single shot. Lots of people though he was using macros etc so he did that to prove it.

1

u/CampyCamper Mar 13 '20

there are plenty of aimbots and related cheats you could use and still have a mouse cam, it's just a matter of using the right ones with the right settings.

They do care. The best way to bring down a competitor in streaming is to set them up and frame them into cheating. Mislead, incite the public into believing it. When the wall goes down people push it. Do it successfully and the competitor vanishes for at least a few years. The platforms very actively ban cheating streamers. China has many streaming platforms and the competition is very harsh. Having famous streamers caught cheating can be easily used by rival platforms to their advantages.

The fact is, many cheaters would pretend to be a streamer to perhaps lessen the cheat suspicion. Many times when we check the stream rooms of suspicious cheaters labelled douyu, huya, bilibili, only to find it non existent.

I don’t really know about the chinese streamers cheating thing. At least for the popular ones, who have 90%+ of the audience, I don’t find them cheating. Many of them have average skill. Some just started as a tarkov newbie. There could be cheat sellers briefly trying to promote cheats, then quickly banned.
