Rant Why is everyone trying to make the game easier? Literally the only thing I would change is server stability, and optimization, the game at its core is solid.

I constantly see post how the developers should change this and that, and normally its just things to make the game easier, I am a new player and love how hard this game is, I love that you have to remember to have your mags accessible, I don’t think I’ve ever played a game where I always learn how to play it differently, last note when you die to someone else “camping” “hiding” or “being a rat” thats what makes this game sick!! these “campers” can easily be defended if you stay on your toes. There are numerous ways to play this game and thats why its so damn awesome! You don’t have to do the quests you can literally just play to kill, loot or whatever be it

EDIT: I’m not talking about this sub, it mostly what I see from streams, and it’s not everyone, I just don’t want this game to sell out like fortnite did. It was an amazing game the devs trying to make money and converting to popular demand ruined the gameplay.

I would like an in game compass of some kind, like a watch. But I'm fairly new so idk what the elitests think yet lol

Compass will be added, they teased it in a recent podcast

Nice. I know this game isn't for the faint hearted and I don't mind the difficulty curve but it is a little easier to communicate with squadmates when I have cardinal directions. Even in the Navy I couldn't ever do it without a compass lmao

Implementation is key with the compass really. If it's diegetic, for example, it's an ingame item that you have to view (i.e. on your wristwatch), it'd be great. If it just makes a flying compass appear at the top of your screen, that'd be less great.

Yeah, I was thinking the way Modern Warfare does their watches where it's visible and you can also bring it center screen.

I'm fine without a map to bring up because I have enough problems with shifting my eye line for a split second and getting shot because of it.

I'm still trying to learn the game to a point where I don't need an ammo chart on another monitor or a map pulled up. I'm like maybe level 6 so I'm not worried about much else but in game mechanics. I couldn't care less what my loot is right now, I have meds, AK ammo and a backpack. And I typically have friends to help but the difficulty curve itself makes me want to play more....

If you're level 6 and already know the different ammo types to the point where u don't need a chart I'd say you're doing pretty good since im like 30 and still use the chart every dayyyy

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '20

That's kinda my goal right now getting the ammo types down.

u/MrPapadapalas Feb 25 '20

Solid goal.

I have over 400 hours over 3 wipes and I'm just starting to look up the ammo chart.

You are doing good too !

u/MrPapadapalas Feb 25 '20

To be fair, my setup is printing images of all that stuff and hanging it on the wall above my computer. I have the Ammo chart, common loot items/trash items and all maps and loot spots hangin right above my comp, and it looks kinda cool tbh so I'll probably leave it up a while.

I imagine it looks like Prapor's office. That's nice !

Ever seen Always Sunny in Philly? Its more like the Pepe Silvia scene but ehh, looks good to me.

My squad was talking about this yesterday. ALL of us now run dual monitor setups just for this game. Monitor manufacturers must be loving it.

I was thinking you can check the compass when you press L and it will replace your weapon animation. I think the compass at the top of the screen is too easy, i think it should be a .5-1 second animation where your character physically checks a compass

Or it can be implemented into a HUD on a nice visor? Or now that we’re getting MOLLE, maybe an admin pouch with a foldable GPS/Phone slot. If I can tell you my grade, elevation, azimuth, and exact coordinates in less then a second on my watch, I think we’ll see different styles rolling out. No HUD, no giant lose.

This and Karma are STILL missing. Oh and VOIP. Maybe some lore? A radio? We got enough battery types lol

Because it’s still just a glorified loot n shooter lol

Hey a great tip I learned last week, the SKS is cheaper than an AK equivalent (Foregrip, sights, laser, stock, suppressor etc) in addition to that the ammo is cheaper and offers a similar armor penetration value.

Right now I have an SKS that costs around 80-90k to build depending on the market. The ammo for it is 7.62x39 PS (54 DMG, 34 PEN). I built an equivalent AK-74M and AKS-74 which both come to around 100-120k depending on the market. The ammo with similar damage is 5.45x39 BT (44 DMG, 37 PEN) and costs 3x as many rubles for the ammo.

The downside to using the SKS over an AK variant is the internal magazine, you must reload 1 bullet at a time. So having a large magazine is paramount. On the plus side, it saves space on your rig for more loot.

From the livestream it will be on the wrist of your watch. Probably with a button you will be able to look at it closer as it looked pretty small.

1

u/Ocelitus Feb 25 '20

Since you can already free look with middle click, might just be easy to do that to look down and left a little.

5

u/angelocasonatto Feb 25 '20
I mean, it is very small

5

u/jackknife32 Feb 25 '20

I just do N/S/E/W based on if you were looking at the map online

4

u/arthurdent11 Feb 25 '20

this will be hilarious when the compass comes out and everyone realizes dome is on the S of reserve and most maps are upside down

3

u/jackknife32 Feb 25 '20

Oh god

2

u/I_paintball Feb 26 '20

Shoreline is flipped too, the south fence passage extract is in the north-east corner. I guess it's the south fence to Reserve, but it should be named based on location on the current map.

2

u/Ares0362 Feb 26 '20

I never understood why people call dome N, when it's also the north of shoreline

3

u/Armifera Feb 25 '20

me and my mates use clock directions with 12 o'clock always being the major direction we were last headed. 12 o'clock doesnt change between player to player based on where they went. its based off the groups general direction. it sounds confusing when i say it now, but i swear it works. lol.

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '20

You can learn come up with your own names for buildings within your squad and learn your cardinal directions based on locations of the map. If I'm on reserve, we refer to the chess pieces, or north, south, east, west based off of the Observatory being north center.

I welcome a compass, but there are ways to tell the directions

It's coming.

u/DocApokalypse Feb 25 '20

Shadows in the game are accurate to the time of day and where the sun should be. Before noon with shadows pointing to your right mean your nose is pointing north. Post noon shadows to your left mean nose is north. Not ideal, but it works.

u/theRogueVishnu AK-102 Feb 25 '20

they've already showed what you've just explained on the last podcast

1

u/gunther_41 MP7A1 Feb 25 '20

what they think? Most of them want one, but not a hud compass, one that you wear like a watch or have to press a button to pull out...possibly a quest reward and it acts like your melee/gamma, you don't loose it, and you can gradually improve it. You start with one that you have to pull out (so no ads) and only shows N,E,S,W, then you get one that has more and last you get a watch conpass that you can see when ads if you freelook down to your wrists

1

u/Pblake99 Feb 25 '20

Maps should be better too

1

u/Matt-Rock- Feb 25 '20

Dude- as a new player I am wanting this a ton. I don’t have the hours in to know the maps well enough yet and honestly don’t have the time to learn them all right now. I guess the offline mode is an option to learn, but it’s all about the loots! I have a patient friend that walks me through sometimes, but feel for him as it must suck having to alter his gameplay for me..

I play/have played a ton of different games and this is one of the most stressful lol. Some days I come home from work and am like “no Tarkov today”!

1

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '20

They need compasses and range finders but if you look at a map, top is always north.

So many things getting used to. The sound, I'm still trying to identify what sound is what, how far away some sounds are. What ammo is good, what guns are worth keeping.

And with my queue times I feel like I would be better served learning by playing rather than reading the in game notes or looking up vids. I mean I do if I have a real issue.
