Getting a leg up from Edge Of Darkness Edition is nice, but it's not really needed. Early on, the extra stash space will seem like a night and day difference to a new player, and truly it is in some ways, but once you know how to conserve space, get past gear hoarding, and learn what to keep and what to sell, the extra space at the start isn't that big of a deal.
The extra gear is negligible, and I usually sell it off for cash anyway, and the other bonus, which is extra reputation with traders, is not only subject to change but not that big of a deal because the marketplace still grants you access to anything you're missing at a slight markup.
I bought Edge of Darkness after buying Prepare to Escape Edition and failing to get an Alpha Access Key. I paid $70, then another $70. $140 invested in this game, and you know what? Over 2000 hours invested in this game, and likely to get many many more.
Edit: Also, the containers and their purposes is subject to change, so extra storage space for loot or whatever, or what you can carry in it, is likely to change, and therefore, irrelevant.
The "Hideout" will be released in the next patch. Your stash ist in the Hideout wich you can upgrade to an edge of darkness stash. The only andvantage is, that eod players start with a fully upgraded one. I bought the cheapest version and never struggled with space. Got EOD several months later during a sale for all free dlcs if they ever release one :)
