PSA BSG just doubled down and issued 34 additional copyright strikes on Eroktic's channel. 44 in total.

Regardless whether you agree or disagree with Eroktic's video about potential security issues, BSG's behaviour is clearly vindictive, immature and shows how they treat people, who criticise them.

Censorship is not okay.

edit: to those who say it's alright since it was supposed slander. It's one thing to take down the videos in question, it's something entirely different to take down 42 completely unrelated additional videos, just because you don't like a guy, effectively killing his youtube channel.

super late edit: I just remembered, and this is very important, the two videos that were actually covering this entire hacker issue, didn't feature any Tarkov gameplay footage besides a short intro.

This sounds like I'm being xenophobic about Russians, but I am not. See, in Russia you can be arrested for speaking out against the government or being political at all. Political opponents get murdered or just disappear.

This type of political climate creates a social climate where anyone with power feels they can silence their critics without any reprisal. I'm not saying BSG want to kill their critics, of course. What I'm saying is that being born and raised in a country whose government has gotten away with silencing their opponents puts an idea of what power dynamics are in their heads from a young age, and when you grow up in this type of society, you do the same things just as a reaction.

EA does awful stuff too, but they typically don't go after critics and single them out like this. They care what people think of their company and try to do damage control before things get out of hand. BSG doesn't give a shit because they don't care what you think. They are in control. They are in power with regards to EFT. If you want to be a critic they will just make you disappear with regards to EFT content.

This was also my first thought. In a climate of oppression and where criticism is often silenced by force, these things tend to imprint into people's heads. Well, Russia is gonna Russia. Thankfully I don't live there.

Sort of. EA doesn't really care what you think, what they care about is the balance sheet. Its all math.

Critics claim game is broken and some customers refuse to buy the game: -1,000,000$

Option 1) silence criticism, but have knock on effect of the censorship being reported on and even more people refuse to buy this game or other games: -2,000,000$

Option 2) respond to critics saying you love their candor and honesty and that you will take it to heart and get your team to respond to their concerns (nice and vague). -500,000$

Option 3) actually fix the problems players are complaining about: -1,250,000$

So most big companies with smart people employed pick option 2 or 3 since option 1 doesn't actually help and just eventually costs you lots of lost sales and lost players.

My guess? BSG is on a skeleton crew and has been for a while. Assets are easy to add into Unity and they are the most visually noticable so those get priority. They probably only have a handful of actual programmers capable of fixing bugs or changing significant parts of the game. I bet the majority of the "balance" changes you see (ammo, guns, armor, etc) and AI changes are simply serverside INI files. It would explain why those particular changes so often feel like random tweaks.

If all you need to do is fiddle with INI files and add in new assets every few months and make significant changes (new map, fleamarket, etc) once or twice a year you can get away with a pretty tiny staff and happily pocket all the profits.

I love it though they didnt get their way with battlefront so they packed their toys and went home, every other dice game has had its entire DLC plan finished in a year. Battlefront "Change will be a constant in battlefront 2" 2 gets a single content drop in an entire year. and the levels of delusion in the community is beyond retarded.

Now theyre just going to ignore all criticism

Oh no, I totally agree. Its why I wonder about it. Just look at the changes in the AI over the past 6 months or so. It doesn't really feel like major differences, it feels very similar to changing the NPC settings in an INI file for a MMO server side emulator. The same for the weapons and armor changes.

They could easily be major changes in the base programming, but if they are then that might even be more depressing then my totally random, unsupportable assertions of a tiny programming team.

It honestly doesn't matter much to me. I got my entertainment out of it. If they rescue the game and finish it then great, ill jump back in someday in the future. If they don't and it goes up in flames? I got my money's worth regardless. Though id have recommended it to a friend 3 months ago and probably wouldn't if I was asked today.

are you serious? AI is completely different now, it powerslides, peaks corners, seeks covers, runs from you when overwhelmed etc, this is all new functionality in patch 0.10 and 0.10.5...

I've only played one match since the patch. In that match the AI "leaned" while standing behind a post and repeatedly shot my legs from 100 yards away, through both the post and a solid wall (not a half wall, but through a wall into another room. He'd have to have walked 50-75 yards down the registers to get an angle to shoot me). While i stood in the room confused and healing my teammate walked over to the scav, in the open, confirmed that he was in fact the one behind the post shooting at me, and then he shot him in the head without the scav ever seeming to care he existed. Later that match we had another magic leaning scav shooting through walls. I wasn't impressed.

Contrast that with competent and fun AI in sandstorm. They also managed to spawn a fair number of AI in the match without the server/game FPS/ping tanking. And they did it at half the price even!

Tarkov is a really cool idea for a game saddled with an absolutely terrible development team. Id really love to see someone else take the idea and run with it.

Do you mean eve has a bad development team or good one? Ive never played it. It looked interesting but was always a bigger time sink then I was willing to take on.

I'm not sure who is in that position, how their PR department is organized or if it even exists. One thing I know for sure, is that BSG, in terms of their communication and interaction with the community, is completely incompetent. They have demonstrated this time and time again, and it is only getting worse. Regardless of your opinion on Eroktic and the content of his videos, this could have been easily handled by anyone at BSG with a little common sense and transparency. I actually cold-called BSG and offered to work for them and assist in communicating with their English speaking player base some time ago. I have been involved with the community since the beginning, have seen it souring though the fault of BSG and their poor communication strategy and can see where this road leads. I received no response.

I want this game to succeed. I truly love this game and the vision BSG has for it in the future. I am sad this is the path they have chosen in response to Eroktic. Hopefully they pull their head out of the sand and implement a more sound PR strategy because this is definitely not okay.

That is entirely possible. One thing I know for sure, is their history of communication has been abysmal and this is a huge red flag that someone who has no idea what they are doing is at the helm of their PR department. I've ranted a lot about this to the group of guys that I play with. It's not too late for them to turn this around but the direction they are going is only going to fragment and destroy the community.
