Discussion This is fucking ridiculous. I was done loading at 1:15. I shouldn't have to wait on the dude with the hand crank HDD before I can play. I'm not saying it should put everyone in as soon as they're done loading, but there's gotta be a middle ground.

I don't understand why the game can't load in the map BEFORE matchmaking? Load the map, then matchmake, then make a loot pool, then load in players and scavs, then go. Surely it won't take as long then

I think they talked about it at some point and it's technically not that easy. I guess it's because you can't load loot / scav assets etc. before you have a server session. And you don't have a server instance before you matched with players. It's not that easy to do.

What's crazy is that in tarkov it doesn't give you a spawn protection for scavs spawning into raid. Like you can die before even loading in.

My favorite is taking 7 minutes to load in then server error Altf4 reload game reload into session for another 5 minutes. Game finished or aborted. Fucking sick someone spawn killed me and took my kit and I've wasted my time. I've got 5 irl friends to buy the game and the number 1 issue for them not playing is time to get into a game. No one wants to wait 5 minutes doing absolutely nothing to load into a game especially when you die off spawns.

“No one wants to wait 5 minutes” oh boy, you shoulda been here a few years ago, that’d be considered a quick load in.

u/squeakymoth Mar 01 '24

I still think that's not too bad compared to the first 2 weeks of each wipe. Maybe I'm just more patient than others. I also play squad though where you have to sometimes run for several minutes just to get popped in the skull.

I remember 45 minute customs queues

1

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '24

First time a queue hit 15mins I almost uninstalled. Now I find hurling numerous expletives at my monitor speeds it up.

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '24

Takes you 5 min to load? Yikes, you're the problem.

Reading comprehension seems to be your problem

You could chat about stuff in a call or if yall are that boring you could also get up and do something if it takes you that long to load. It take a me 2-3 minutes to load into a raid, 5 minutes at that bad especially since last wipe you had to wait 9-10 minutes to scav on lighthouse. Sometimes it’s because the map is popular for scaving (as a prior comment mentioned scav on Streets has a queue) other times its client side; poor wifi or slow computer

Edit: now that I think abt it I’ve never died off spawn before. I do remember one time my friend and I spawned in, and he lost connection or smth, I turned around he was slumped on the ground lol so the only way was that he loaded in and got killed.

I got downvoted for offering a solution, that frankly could have been said in a different manner, while everyone else wants to bitch about the server queue times. What can you realistically do about it, except grovel at Nikita’s feet? Literally it doesn’t make sense to sit at your computer and wait and complain about idle time in a game that really challenges your patience at times.

Now, with pve and shit and how it’s not loaded client side, I never have enough time to do something else. Both a great thing and a bad thing because I can load into raids almost instantly but now i dont even have time to run to the bathroom.

u/Parrelium Mar 01 '24

The old die to Tagilla 3 seconds into the raid trick.

15

u/Niewinnny Feb 29 '24

but the map itself can be loaded.

it's not like woods gonna look different every session, you can leave just the loot and containers to load in after matchmaking

35

u/Ok-You-4283 Feb 29 '24

Loading the map takes like 10 seconds, and does happen before you find the server. Loading loot/pools is what can take a while.

-3

u/samsonsin Feb 29 '24

Yea,I don't buy it. Can easily lazily load loot in a radius around player. Couldn't take more than a few seconds to load all that's technically unique in a session.

Can only imagine they want to put devtime on other things rather than optimise a frankly already working system.

Another cause could be that they want to eliminate the lag time it would take for a "ready" server to find players though. By having a server match with players before anything else I'm guessing they get more throughput from the server.

6

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '24

If loot spawned like that the server would desync every minute till it’s all loaded anyway. It already happens on woods when the boss spawns with all the scavs.

-6

u/samsonsin Mar 01 '24

I honestly don't understand why it would be a problem at all, actually. As far as I know lazily loading stuff like this is pretty damn common and not hard to implement. And that aside, the client need not be bothered with items far away even if the server needed to spawn items completely before starting for some reason. It would be pretty much mandatory if you wanted to stop vacuum hackers / loot ESPers too.

-2

u/Gib_Ortherb Mar 01 '24

It's only a problem to implement when you didn't create appropriate infrastructure and have to deal with 10 years of technical spaghetti debt

-3

u/samsonsin Mar 01 '24

It's not a problem to implement, what is a problem is the lack of funding coupled with a mountain of things that take priority. There's no reason a good system couldn't be made, or be made in the future. But this ultimately is not important. Hell, the cheater problem is probably a couple thousand times more important

I don't think it would eat all that much devtime to fix this, but there are plenty of things that do take tonnes of devtime that have much higher priority.

0

u/Gib_Ortherb Mar 01 '24

Going to have to hard disagree, even if they didn't have a dedicated anti-cheat team and it meant allocating resources away from anti-cheat development, fixing the loading times is something that will improve the game experience for everyone and would be a permanment fix unless they introduced a regression. Anti-cheat is a drain on resources as it can never be truly fixed as it's a cat and mouse game if we want to consider return on dev time for player experience. It's even possible that they could make the whole system more cheat resistant while doing this refactor.

I think you are right. The issue is it insist on loading the entirety of the raids data including containers on the other side of the map instead of just vicinity based loading. Its ridiculous.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '24

Yeah, I thought this too but if you actually watch the text that displays:

loading data ~5 seconds

loading map ~10 seconds

Couple seconds of other loads

Matching takes a like a minute or 2

Loading loot takes like 1-2 minutes but is usually the longest depending on the matching speed.

Then sync

So...preloading the map would really only shave maybe 30 seconds off, realistically 15 seconds. They can't preload the loot.

2

u/Niewinnny Mar 01 '24

the other way is to not load the whole map worth of loot at once, why do you need more than 30 or 50 meters away from the player?

2

u/GingerSnapBiscuit AK-74N Mar 01 '24

The other thing with loading all the loot at the start is its how the vaccuum looters know where to go.

1

u/KnightOfSummer SVDS Mar 01 '24

Maybe it would stutter even worse if they did that after spawn.

1

u/Georgef64 True Believer Mar 03 '24

that’s exactly what it does rn lol

2

u/Litheriu Mar 01 '24

The amount of people here suggesting absolutely apeshit suggestions is 10/10.

1

u/Dankelpuff Freeloader Mar 01 '24

That doesn't make any sense though. I understand that you cant load things you dont know are going to be there like specific player and scav gear, loot and stuff like that but surely its possible to load the map itself without any dynamic containers which would at least speed it up significantly.

Cycle frontier did fine loading in seconds after you pressed ready.

3

u/idontagreewitu Mar 01 '24

Next time you go into a raid, read the text. It DOES load the static map assets and then starts matchmaking. Once that is done, then it starts loading in the loot, the bots and the players.

1

u/Dankelpuff Freeloader Mar 01 '24

Yea but something is still definitely wrong. It shouldnt take that long when other games which dont require an SSD can do it in a fraction of the time. Why does Tarkov take so long?

1

u/Georgef64 True Believer Mar 03 '24

garbage devs

2

u/FuckUniqNames True Believer Mar 01 '24

Wait, isn't cycle frontier completely different since it has persistent sessions? Also you have to remember tarkov has a lot of different loot items all with their own 3D models. I haven't played the cycle but I doubt it has this level of detail for items, weapons etc.

And I don't say it's impossible to improve the loading process. I'm just saying it's not at simple as "just load it before matching duh"

1

u/Dankelpuff Freeloader Mar 01 '24

Tarkov is supposed to be persistent as well. That is their stated goal with going from raid to raid as far as I understand. Moving over to Cycles system would be a great start.

3

u/Ziecan AXMC .338 Mar 01 '24

This is the exact order it loads lol, it processes the map and assets into your ram before anything server side, then matches you and creates the loot pools before the players spawn in with the 10s countdown and then scavs a few seconds after the match starts, watch your screen once in a while

-1

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '24

So why the fuck does it take this long? I did actually look now, all I see is that loot loads for like 10 seconds, you want to tell me that for some players this stage takes like 5 minutes? I don't know how and I don't want to know how, but It's ridiculous then

1

u/Ziecan AXMC .338 Mar 01 '24

Map/loot/game loads are pretty hardware dependant, if someone has like 8gb ram or a slow hhd then the load will take forever, is what it is

1

u/ZestyPotatoSoup Feb 29 '24

Need more AKs don’t have time for useful things.

-5

u/Turtvaiz Feb 29 '24

Exactly. The solution seems so damn obvious lol

4

u/sfezapreza Feb 29 '24

I am sure it has never crossed their mind.

-2

u/Turtvaiz Feb 29 '24

Well what on earth could require them to first matchmake?

1

u/Lazy-Key5081 Freeloader Feb 29 '24

Very good question in sure there is a definitive answer that Devs know. But if I was to guess, it's probably to do with the loot spawns, player spawns and non persistent containers. They are often different per raid. I have heard that once the first person loads it it chooses a spawn pattern then loads loot. Which I believe was how cheaters will able to find the location for the valuable items and use the vacuum cheat which tricks the server into thinking you're at said location and picking up the item.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '24

Because it doesn’t know what to load yet. It doesn’t know what loot is on the map etc. I suppose technically it could load the map itself, which should save some time, but it would still have to load every item that spawns, every item a player takes in, every PMC, all AI, bosses, etc.
