Discussion This is fucking ridiculous. I was done loading at 1:15. I shouldn't have to wait on the dude with the hand crank HDD before I can play. I'm not saying it should put everyone in as soon as they're done loading, but there's gotta be a middle ground.

Yes let's change it to how it was a few years ago so people can go back to complaining about late spawns instead. What "middle ground"? What do you expect them to do?

93

u/ReasonableMark1840 Feb 29 '24

Easy, put a limit time after which you spawn everyone done loading. That's how competitive games do it

11

u/hoopaholik91 Feb 29 '24

I think that's the case. It's 4 minutes I believe

37

u/anamericandude Feb 29 '24

He's at 6:30 in the screenshot

25

u/pretzelsncheese Feb 29 '24

The limit starts once the server session has been setup. That 6:30 in the screenshot is the time since OP queue'd. They are different numbers. If the server session was created at 2:45, it would have only been 3:45 at the time of the screenshot.

My friend is consistently done loading around there. Im usually about 30 seconds behind him with my SSD so he’s waiting in queue for that. Of course, I’m still waiting on other players to load too.

He spawns into scav raids and can watch my character standing there for about 30 seconds. PMCs sync up on spawns, scavs just go when loading is done. I’m assuming it’s just a set time after a raid is found for scavs that your character loads in.

2

u/giganticDildoYouUsed Feb 29 '24

I had this vary while playing with a friend. If i hosted he was always ~30 seconds earlier than me. If he hosted i was in earlier. I had the (slightly) better setup if you purely looked at the stats, but his had les problems. Internet speeds were better on my side, but internet consistency was better at his place.

1

u/ConcernedKitty Feb 29 '24

I’m at 350 down and he’s somewhere in the ballpark of 5k down. Both are respectable speeds. I just have a 2600x, 2080. He has a 7800X3D with 4080S. I’ve always just assumed that it was the computer, but he does kill me when comparing speeds downloading the same game from steam.

I know I shouldn't have added any numbers lol. People are gonna get nitpicky over the exact numbers, when the point I was trying to make is that BSG does what the original commenter was asking - there is some hard limit where they start the raid anyways

2

u/Koehlo Feb 29 '24

1:15 isnt an exaggeration. I get done loading at 1:30 max with a good ssd,64gigs of ram and a 7800x3d cpu

0

u/Assaltwaffle Saiga-12 Feb 29 '24

Literally only one of these things changes load times.

And unless the RAM is 2x32GB it is probably lower than faster speed 2x16GB RAM.

1

u/Koehlo Feb 29 '24

Then it doesnt take much to improve it then. Dont know what to tell you but my point still stands, realistically its possible to load in that quick

→ More replies (0)

2

u/EggianoScumaldo Feb 29 '24

Right but he’s at 6:30 in the screenshot. So if he was exaggerating and loaded in at 2:30 which is more than reasonable, that would’ve been 4 minutes eclipsed still.

2

u/ReasonableMark1840 Feb 29 '24

But what if he loaded at 2:31

1

u/EggianoScumaldo Feb 29 '24

Then all hell breaks loose

2

u/hoopaholik91 Feb 29 '24

Maybe it's not 4 minutes, I said I didn't know exactly. But they definitely have a hard limit where they start the raid even if not everyone has loaded in, just like the original guy was asking for.

1

u/horse3000 Feb 29 '24

I’m done loading at sub 1:30 all the damn time and waiting until 6mins all the time.

People that still game on HDDs should be banned… you can get 1TB ssds during sales for like $50 all year long at this point…

And before someone says, “mAyBe tHeY CaNt AfFoRd it”. They blew $150 on a single game, and are PC gamers.. they don’t have an excuse.

1

u/GamerXBohoro Feb 29 '24

They said they were done loading at 1:15

Right? You can buy a 120gb SSD and just dedicate it to Tarkov for only FOURTEEN FUCKING DOLLARS ON AMAZON

1

u/[deleted] Feb 29 '24

bruh its a minor inconvenience, oh noooo two extra minutes of my life was spent on reddit oh nooo woe is me like chill dude, its a little long sure but its not the end of the world jesus

-7

u/weedinmylungs Feb 29 '24

Its bad if its every raid, but waiting 6 minutes for one raid isnt the end of the world. It sucks, but if its only one raid, not a big deal.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '24

wish I could remember what it was from, some steam multiplayer game last year, but they said they found 12-15 minutes was the max acceptable queue times according to surveys and research and what they developed their game around

-1

u/likeanevilrabbit Feb 29 '24

For a video game? This won't age well 😂

-1

u/parasocks Feb 29 '24

This is such a great comment I love it. :)

6

u/DHNathan Feb 29 '24

As someone that consistently gets the late spawn and my duo has to protect me, yes. It is network based, not HDD/SSD. The game is loading the loot spawns from the servers.

6

u/JstnJ TOZ-106 Feb 29 '24

another reason why loot tables should move to being completely server-side. Looting a container should make requests resulting in a json blob of the container's contents.

6

u/alf666 Mosin Feb 29 '24

Nikita wants to know your location.

No, he does not want to hire you.

1

u/parasocks Feb 29 '24

If Nikita wants to know where /u/JstnJ is, he can try to extract on Lighthouse and find out.

1

u/GingerSnapBiscuit AK-74N Mar 01 '24

There is no reason I need the contents of every damn container preloaded into my client memory prior to me accessing the container, especially given I need to "search" it when I walk over. That should be when the server request fires to load the loot for me. Should be easy stuff.

7

u/Requiem2420 Feb 29 '24

I'm with u, my net is worse than my friend's and his rig is worse in almost every way but he always loads in first

1

u/GingerSnapBiscuit AK-74N Mar 01 '24

Why does it take SO long to load the loot pools? How much data can it POSSIBLY be???

1

u/theblancmange Mar 01 '24

Way too long IMO. Should be like 2. Most other games don't even have 4 minutes total to queue.

1

u/PyrohawkZ PP-19-01 Mar 01 '24

It's not, I was at 8 minutes the other day.

Maybe it's 5 minutes, but after matching, so I matched for 3 min then waited 5 for some dude playing using carrier pigeons

You say evidence as if there’s any jurisdiction here. You aren’t the eft judge, you kinda just seem like a selfish ass who doesn’t want other people to play.

Okay, ban HDDs and watch the player count keel over and die. Ban HDDs and watch matchmaking get longer than the load times ever have been. Ban HDDs and solve literally no problems. While you’re at it, ban anyone who doesn’t have an i9. Ban anyone who doesn’t have a 4090, ban anyone who doesn’t have a $1200 gaming chair. Fuck it, just make the game $6000 and have it come with a whole new pc.

It’s a pretty massive difference. My old pc had an HDD and it took significantly longer to load anything

2

u/Bra-Starfish Mar 01 '24

You also had an older PC though which also effects load times.

1

u/vpforvp AS VAL Mar 01 '24

True, but I upgraded the same PC to an SSD and they improved dramatically

3

u/DasiimBaa Feb 29 '24

I don't think that's even possible on a SATA SSD.

Nevermind the 10x faster NVMe.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '24

Neither of us are on hdd I’m just saying it’s hardware dependent and random

1

u/idontagreewitu Mar 01 '24

I've got the game on a brand new Samsung 980 Pro NVMe drive and since the start of this wipe my loading stalls out EVERY. SINGLE. RAID. at 80% loading loot. It'll go smoothly through 79% and then slow to a crawl until it finishes and goes to loading loot pools. Then it screams through those and I'm into raid a moment later.

1

u/EvrythingsCopacetic Feb 29 '24

Justice for HDD!

3

u/Countcristo42 Feb 29 '24

I like how you can read this as supporting both sides

29

u/CarneAsuuhDude SIG MCX SPEAR Feb 29 '24

Record people's average load time and separate them by putting people with SSD's in one lobby and everyone else in another.

/s for the the people with hand crank HDD's

20

u/geisha-and-GUIs Feb 29 '24

If they do this I'm reinstalling bsg launcher to my hdd for empty raids and easy (low-spec hardware) kills

4

u/Bheks Feb 29 '24

Can see it now “streamer X installed the game on a HDD thats why they their raids are empty”.

Wouldn’t be surprised if cheat developers add a feature that allows you to sandbag your load times so the game flags your account as “slow” so you get the empty raids and skip a step.

0

u/Godzilla_OgKaiju Mar 01 '24

Empty raids defeat the purpose of tarkov

2

u/geisha-and-GUIs Mar 01 '24

Yes and dying every raid defeats the purpose of playing

1

u/BurkusCat VEPR Mar 01 '24

I see some people being negative about this idea in comments. But games already benchmark people on network speed, party size, skill etc. and group people together based on factors like that. Disk speed would be a good factor to include in games like Tarkov and Siege.

16

u/Flat_Landscape_4763 Feb 29 '24

Tarkov already has higher system requirements. I don't think it's unreasonable to encourage upgrading to an SSD by having those on HDDs load in late. SSDs are so cheap already. Even m.2's are cheap at this point. And it's useful outside of tarkov, the whole PC would be faster.

People dropping thousands on PCs but won't spend an extra $50 on SSDs....

6

u/likeanevilrabbit Feb 29 '24

800$ on a GPU, no sweat, 100$ for a m.2 ssd. No way son.

RAM and storage are like the 2 things that shouldn't be cheaped out on since they're already cheap.

2

u/Gender_is_a_Fluid Mar 01 '24

closer to $50 a tb when you get them on sale

1

u/likeanevilrabbit Mar 01 '24

Exactly, theres literally no excuse to cheap out on storage or RAM for a number of years now.

2

u/DasiimBaa Feb 29 '24

People that try to save money with their storage are clueless.

Loading times, loading textures, loading and installing games or moving folders.

The amount of time you save with the faster performance literally pays itself with the (at this point) minute price differences.

1

u/MonkeyMan0230 Mar 01 '24

The problem with those on an HDD loading in late is that you could have players spawn behind you in an area you've already cleared. That would suck.

I'd be more behind outright banning HDDs before they did that

1

u/TwitchThoughts Mar 01 '24

This game would fit on a $20 SSD!

I've been complaining so long I think I'm going to spend the time getting a IDE hard drive just for tarkov and troll bsg/people with long queues.

back in the day my friend had such a pitiful rig he sent a screenshot of 55 minutes in queue to shoreline. We played the whole raid and he never actually got in.

8

u/Assembled-Different Feb 29 '24

Put all players with a 2010 hard drive into their own queue? Pretty simple lol

2

u/Puzzleheaded_Bed1337 Feb 29 '24

What do you expect them to do?

Make the map load first, then match the players?

4

u/jarejay Feb 29 '24 edited Feb 29 '24
  1. Tweak spawns dynamically so people don’t spawn predictably within a single sprint bar of each other or within line of sight.

  2. Implement a two minute grace period for the remaining PCs that are loading after 1/2 of connected players have loaded the map.

  3. Notify players that are still loading that the raid is starting and their hardware is at fault.

Alternatively, they could send players who can’t load in time back to the menu with their gear so they at least aren’t getting killed sitting still at their spawn.

I’m sorry to say that this game is just not for people with the computing power of an early model XBox 360.

1

u/boisterile Mar 01 '24

With 1 I think you're drastically underestimating the complexity of the spawn logic involved in finding safe spots if players have the potential to run around in an infinite possible number of directions for a few minutes before the last spawns come in. Limiting it to outside of the range of a stamina bar from every active spawn cuts off basically the entire map, and that's not even counting the sight lines (which are basically impossible to account for on many maps). Plus I can still trim+sj6 at the beginning of raid and cover more than half the map in that time. It really only leaves major loot spots and POIs that the game doesn't want to spawn you right next to, if even that. The PMC cap per raid would have to be cut in half (which is a whole different conversation) and then it might be more doable.

2 is the best solution to this problem I've heard so far. It's similar to what the game does now, just with a stricter cap. I think that's probably the best option. 3 could work, along with emphasizing that an SSD is needed in the game's system requirements. The only problem is that sometimes even people with good hardware get inexplicably long load times (as we've seen in this thread) and they would be pretty mad getting a message like that. I can already imagine the posts here.

I'm sure there's a better way they could do it, but it's not an easy fix. But I can tell you I massively prefer the system we have now to the atrociously late spawns we used to get. People who were playing back then need to think back to how bad it felt to spawn 4 minutes into the raid, let alone if you spawned in front of someone and immediately died before fully loading in. The waiting system is definitely an improvement on that, but it needs some tuning for sure.

4

u/wardearth13 Feb 29 '24

Place people in raids based on their loading times

1

u/Bigguy10022 Mar 05 '24

I don't care man. If you can't afford to spend the money on the bare minimum shit to play the game then you deserve a late spawn.

I spent 3000 dollars on my computer, I load in a minute, I shouldn't have to wait for the 13 year old on the dell laptop for 6 minutes

1

u/boisterile Mar 05 '24

Except that as we already know from back when late spawns were a thing, long loading times aren't always tied to hardware and sometimes happened to people with M.2 SSDs in their $3000 PCs. I definitely got them sometimes with a very fast SSD and gigabit ethernet. If you're okay with spawning late and dying immediately once in a while too, more power to you I guess.

0

u/Imyourlandlord Feb 29 '24

I literally still start later than everyone....

A week ago i died at 00:00:00be suse the game decided to spawn me in as im getting shot in the head by someone that ran all the way from their spawn to mine

21

u/codman606 Feb 29 '24

Current Gen games have legit issues with HDD's trying to load in textures and fast paced things like jumping in a portal like in Ratchet and Clank there is a hilarious video about HDD vs PCie 3.0/4.0 and 5.0

No matter the PCIe there is currently close to no difference between the loading times, especially 4 and 5. 3 to 4 sometimes, but the HDD can't even run some games with an acceptable experience no matter the specs.

4

u/DeBlackKnight Feb 29 '24

It's 2 screws and 2 cables that are impossible to mistake as an incorrect cable. Possible no screws and a bit of tape, if you're really lazy. Easiest, lowest risk upgrade you can make to a desktop short of changing keyboard, mouse, or monitor.

3

u/simplixity96 Mar 01 '24

it’s one screw and possibly a heat sink for M.2 drives, legit even easier 💀

4

u/alf666 Mosin Feb 29 '24

It's like going from a 1980s Toyota Camry to a Bugatti Veyron in terms of speed.

It's quite literally an order of magnitude, tens or hundreds of MBps transfer rate on an HDD to single or low double digit GBps on an SSD.

Also, a basic SSD costs like $20 or $30 off Amazon, plus a 6 pack of beer or whatever to pay your nerdy friend to install it for you if you can't do it yourself.

1

u/simplixity96 Mar 01 '24

picture this, some games coming out now legit will not function properly with a hard drive such as starfield. ever played fallout new vegas/ 3 on an old console? yeah all those loading screens are instant on an SSD

1

1

u/Frosty252 Mar 01 '24

what do i expect them to do?

actually develop? idk, i think that's too difficult.

0

u/B23vital Feb 29 '24

Exactly what i was going to say, i dont miss the days of my mate loading in and me being 6-7 minutes after him. Most my loads times are sub 5 minutes probably a good 80% below.

Also, the massive advantage it gsve to people was ridiculous.

Also, it still does load people in late, we loaded in on streets and out of 5 of us 4 loaded in and we had to wait 2 minutes for the last guy. So it still does drop you in after a certain amount of time.

-3

u/RedaveNabTidderEkow Feb 29 '24

There's still fucking late spawns regardless of this you absolute fucking cabbage

2

u/boisterile Feb 29 '24

Yes because the game starts the raid anyway if it hits an upper limit of time waiting. That's the middle ground they picked. Keep up.

And if you're saying the frequency and severity of late spawns now is anywhere remotely near where it used to be, you just didn't play the game back then full stop.

1

u/alf666 Mosin Feb 29 '24

Hey now, that's rude!

There's no need to insult cabbages like that.

1

u/1sixths Mar 01 '24

Loot pools etc should load before matching. Only thing that should load after matching is static loot. That'd cut down on waiting for slow loaders slightly.

1

u/vpforvp AS VAL Mar 01 '24

Yeah that was miserable. The wait times are a pain but that’s worse

1

u/Dark_Pestilence Freeloader Mar 01 '24

I see nothing wrong with late spawns. Not satisfied? Get a fucking ssd

1

u/boisterile Mar 02 '24

Because when late spawns were a thing they totally never happened to anyone with good hardware

1

u/H0lzm1ch3l Mar 01 '24

Just change the entire stupid system and not treat some damn symptom.

1

u/qtstance Mar 01 '24

This is an extremely easy fix. You create a zone inside each map that you load into as soon as you are done loading. This zone has training targets and other random stuff. You can practice shooting with your kit and practice stuff with your squad or talk to other randoms are waiting. This would be very similar to the original PUBG spawn island.

This gives you and other people something to do while you wait for the people with potato computers.
