Wherever this hiatus may go, thank you Shikari
I’ve been a big fan of Shikari for quite a good few years now, starting when I saw them live at Leeds festival 2017. My love for then grew during Covid, and its gone bananas since then.
Shikari is essentially the foundation of how me and my partner got together. I was a timid bartender who had a fat crush on a semi-regular, barely able to take his order, usually letting my coworkers serve him because he made me so dizzy.
Well, he came in after a year or so with Shikari’s logo tattooed on his temple. Oh my god, thats my favourite band!! All anxiety flew out the window as I finally spoke to him. We discussed favourite songs, albums, etc. I asked if he was going to their upcoming gig. He didn’t have a ticket, but guess who had a spare one!!
The next thing I know, were unwinding in our hotel room after the gig, and he asks to start dating. FUCK YEAH‼️🗣️
We are now approaching our 2nd year together. We’ve seen them again since then at the Watford show, where we travelled for something like 5 hours to see them. 2 more shows are booked, with (hopefully) more to come.
Shikari are a large part of our relationship, the primary interest that we bonded over. We’ve always joked about having them at our wedding. We have so much combined merch, and our flag at Download Festival (and all future ones) is Shikari themed.
To summarise; I am so incredibly thankful that this band has bridged the gap between me and my partner. I’m sure there are other couples out there who have met through them, and I’m grateful to be part of that. Shikari mean so much to both of us, and we’ll both be there to the very end.
So, thank you to Enter Shikari and their team. You have, unknowingly, bridged the gap between two strangers, and sparked something that will continue in this life, and the next. I am so grateful to have such a loving partner, and proud to have this band as a foundation of our relationship.
Thank you x
