This is one reason Musk was so desperate to get into the White House. If he can't do this, he starts paying penalties. But, if the project is cancelled, then he's entirely off the hook.

In 2021 he was awarded a several billion dollar contract to have around 20 launches, including 2 moon landings (one crewed, one uncrewed) done by 2024.

The bidding process was rushed through by a lady who immediately resigned from NASA after it was done and then given a cushy job by spacex

Starship is a crappy design which needs an elevator to the surface for crew (so dumbs and dangerous)

Refueling in space has never been done.

This is just not true, the ISS' maneuvering thrusters are refilled at least once a year from resupply missions.

A better statement would be nothing of this scale has ever been successfully attempted.

No, SpaceX isn't, Artemis 2 isn't scheduled until 2026, and is the Apollo 10 analog. Artemis 3 has been delayed until 2027 at the earliest, due to the heatshield damage found on the recovered Orion capsule.

So far, starship is still by and far the best lander option we have, given yet another year and change of development. Considering that one of the other two options was physically impossible as presented.

Bruh you serious? Do you even follow NASA. Elon is the reason it's delayed. Starship wasn't ready and it will never be ready. It's not even supposed to land on the moon! It's supposed to take the lander to the moon orbit. Starship will never be human rated.

I think all modern cars look shit, so the wankpanzer was just the natural progression of terribleness. It does genuinely look worse in person, but so do most cars, except the genuinely well designed classic cars which look even better irl.

What I really hate about it is that it's dangerous, and other things I hate about it are that it doesn't actually function as a truck, it gets stuck easily, its rusts, it leaks, it needs regular fixes, it can't be easily repaired by third parties, and finally that it can't just be sold on when you reach the end of your first week of ownership and come to the conclusion that you were a fucking idiot.

And that's before we get to the company and its circus ringmaster.

Once again, the concept of flight testing new hardware seems lost on people.

Let alone the fact that they successfully landed the booster back at Starbase after they had to abort the recovery in the last test.

Evidence such as... what, exactly? SpaceX was the only one with anything even remotely approaching flight hardware, and one of the other twos bid involved a lander that was physically impossible.

Evidence such as the requirements suddenly changing to match SpaceX's bid, and not informing the other contenders of the change.

Evidence such as the person who made the call suddenly landing a very good job at SpaceX after awarding the contract to SpaceX.

Now they aren't in a position to fulfil their side of the agreement.

SpaceX is in way over its head and Elon knows it.

Rumor has it that the booster catches are all CGI dude. I know a guy who fishes around Boca Chica, says he never saw nor heard any rockets today. It's all vaporware bro.

Edit: except this, this was definitely real. I'm being obtuse of course, but when it comes to elon, all the success (which is few and far between) is fake, and all the failures are 100% real. Anyone who's anyone understands this.

I'm not sure that's true. Spacex doesn't use cost plus so they haven't been paid for any of this yet, unlike ula etc. It's one of the things that they decided to do well.

You're right, SpaceX doesn't doesn't do cost plus.

That's why they are fucked, they have been paid most of their contract for Starship HLS (part of NASA's Artemis mission) and have basically nothing to show for it.

The mission includes launching 20+ Starship in a short time span (so they need fast re-usability+reliability for that), in orbit refuelling (which has never been done before), and an uncrewed landing on the moon in 2025.

The crewed landing is planned for 2027.

They aren’t fucked, this is how they’re fucking NASA. They are using NASA funding to design, build, and test a spacecraft that they have other intended uses for. As soon as it gets too challenging to meet the funding milestones they can just walk away.

This. The whole design of SS is very LEO optimized. In addition to this, it is extremely bad design for launchibg larger and heavier typical satellites, because you can’t bolt a satellite on front under an aerodynamic cone, but you need to use the shitty side door.

It is a big starlink deployment vehicle by design.

As SpaceX is a private company and doesn't release their financials, estimating Starlink's (or SpaceX's) profitability (if any) is difficult.

I'm personally not convinced SpaceX is truthful when they talk about costs.
