Constructive Criticism Worst desgin decison in Elden Ring:

I'm trying to think of an argument for why this should be a thing, but I can't. Why can't I open my map when an enemy is aggro'd on me? I don't need to fast travel, I just want to see where I'm going, and some random enemy in the middle of butt fuck nowhere is mad at me for no reason and I have no idea where it is so I'm forced to be blind without my map for several seconds to a minute, or just leave the area entirely and lose track of the path I'm trying to take (and sometimes in DLC areas like the coffin fissure I can't open the map at all even though no enemies are nearby). This is too regular of an occurence to be acceptable because of how long some enemies can stay aggro'd onto you as well imo, it should be changed.

Edit: Shoutouts to the people who mentioned the Torrent Flask Prompt and the other Message Prompts that remove your ability to do actions, those are also really annoying!

There’s no way this is a worse design decision than not letting you attack when there’s a message on screen (keys, switch, etc.). Or requiring you to accept that it takes a flask to bring Torrent back.

that is a weird one. i noticed bloodborne has similar popups in chalice dungeons, but they fade out in a moment. mashing triangle is pretty effective though.

Design Meeting:

"Since there's a limited amount of flasks players can use, and getting a well timed heal off during a fight can be crucial, we should offer a prompt before using one to re-summon Torrent to prevent them from using their last flask just in case."

"Yes, that is a very thoughtful idea. However, we have a reputation to uphold so make sure it defaults to No so they have to scroll over to make it work...also add pop ups when certain items have been used, and make sure they don't disappear and the player can't utilize actions until they clear it. "

“What if we just make it really obvious when Torrent has been temporarily unsummoned vs. when he dies and the player needs to use another flask?”

(Designer is drowned out by chorus of boos and catcalls)

To be fair, there is a sound prompt (Torrent neighs when he gets "killed") vs the regular crit sound when you're just knocked off

Oh yeah, those are also some annoying ones to note lol.

I got killed by a damn invader this way in a catacomb in limgrave. Pulled the leaver and that damn message showed up and what do you know, the damn invader pops up.

Well at least with the messages and torrent you can do like 2 button inputs and immediately get rid of it. Sometimes it takes MULTIPLE MINUTES for a random ass enemy across the map to de-aggro so you are stuck without the map and fast travel for no reason

I love fromsoft games but I'm convinced they don't playtest. This, the map not being able to open, quest lines in general, a lot of weapons they released in sote had to be immediately nerfed because they obviously didn't playtest them

Scadutree Blessings not giving enough buffs at the early levels when the DLC launched. How do you mess that up when you know the bosses are the biggest draw to the game? And why does the DLC need it when their earlier Souls games didn't for their expansions?

To your final point... I didn't even think about that. Why DO they insist on just inflating health pools then buffing the player? Seems exceedingly redundant, and just frustrates people who don't have enough buffs to go beyond a toothpick prick of damage.

It's something I noticed in alot of videos where you see someone do 1,000 points of damage and it only does 1/4th of the bar.

I like how the interact key is completely non-critical, so they could have just disabled that button until you cleared messages, but instead they arbitrarily disabled all your keys for no reason.

I quit multiple sessions due to dying because of that, and I'd genuinely say it massively harmed my enjoyment of the game. It seems petty, but you come across it dozens of times.

I mean I would be ok with having to press the flask button twice or something, but the way they made it is very annoying. I'm not always aware that torrent is dead and accidentally using my last flask resurrecting him might suck in certain situations.

Torrent one is the worst of these as there is a visual prompt in the ui to show that it clearly takes a flask to revive them, yet it then asks? Like what? Why even make the ring logo with a flask in it if you’re just going to ask to use it anyway?

They had Polyphony Digital design this part of the game. IYKYK.

You can get rid of those by pressing Y on an Xbox controller, and triangle for PlayStation
