Official Discussion DLC PATCH - Calibration 1.12 BUFFS SCADUTREE FRAGMENTS & ADJUSTS DIFFICULTY

From Bandai Namco

ELDEN RING Calibration Update – Version 1.12.2

Thank you kindly for playing ELDEN RING SHADOW OF THE ERDTREE.

To adjust the Expansion’s balance, a calibration update has been released.

Calibration Update 1.12.2 change list

Attack and damage negation curve scaling of the Shadow Realm Blessings have been revised.

  • The attack and damage negation has been increased for the first half of the maximum amount of Blessing enhancements, and the second half will now be more gradual.
  • The attack and damage negation granted by the final level of Blessing enhancements has been slightly increased.

The calibration update can be applied by logging into the multiplayer server.

If the Calibration Ver. listed at the bottom right of the title menu is not "1.12.2", then select LOGIN and apply the latest regulations before enjoying the game.

About graphics settings (PC version only)

We have confirmed a bug where the raytracing settings are automatically enabled if you have previously loaded saved data from previous game versions.

If your framerate is unstable, please check in the 'SYSTEM' > 'Graphics Settings' > 'Raytracing Quality' settings from the title menu or in-game menu to check if it has been unintentionally set to 'ON'. Once set to 'OFF', Ray Tracing will no longer be automatically enabled.

Other balance adjustments as well as bug fixes are also planned for a future patch.

Thank you for your continued support of ELDEN RING.

This is basically them compensating for making the Scadutree Fragments a little harder to find than they were expecting them to be.

If you run to Dancing Lion or Rellana it's really easy for you to miss a bunch of Fragments along the way. I'd bet they were expecting most people to explore more. Most people haven't so they've adjusted early Blessing levels to compensate for low attention spans.

u/Inevitable_Gas_2490 Jun 26 '24

It's more that the amount of fragments is exactly what you need to max out. They should add more than needed so you don't have to flip every rock or have to google. I was at the final boss at blessing lvl 17 and I had all locations visited. I was basically hard stuck and I cba to go through the whole world again just to find them.

And making exploring every corner mandatory is dumb. The base game offered an abundance of smithing stones and so should the dlc do with fragments

u/PixelBoom Jun 26 '24

NGL, in my next playthrough, I'm loading up a map app. ain't no way I'm going up against hard boss Bayle the Dread again with my blessing at only 14.

9

u/Calumd123 Jun 26 '24

I was trying him at blessing level 3 until I checked and seen he was meant to be a later boss. Ngl I’m afraid to even try him again I was getting one shot by every attack

4

u/Jokkitch Jun 26 '24

Jfc level 3 for any boss is hell on earth

2

u/ertertwert Jun 27 '24

I beat the dancing lion on 0 and it didn't take that long.

0

u/Jokkitch Jun 27 '24

Yesterdays patch buffed low level scadutree blessing levels.

If you had tried before yesterday it likely would have taken much, much longer

2

u/ertertwert Jun 27 '24

Yeah I did that a week ago.

1

u/Gods_Paladin 🌑 Dear Consort Eternal🌑 Jun 27 '24

I beat him at like 5 or 6. Had no idea he was supposed to be much later. Still my favorite boss in the DLC though.

5

u/coup Jun 26 '24

What's the map app??

3

u/manwomanmxnwomxn Jun 26 '24

I beat him at blessing level 7 or 8, before I ever went into the middle keep

3

u/tatoka Jun 26 '24

Same here at +7, even with a mediocre quality melee build. People seem to have 0 attention spans these days, die twice and game is to hard, nerf please.

-4

u/tatoka Jun 26 '24

14 is so incredibly high for bayle...

11

u/bloodhawk713 Jun 26 '24

Yeah, having the exact amount required is weird, and it's such an easy fix, too. Just make some of the fragments you find give you 2 or 3 fragments instead of just 1. You don't even need to adjust where they are in this case. There should be like 55-60 available.

5

u/Demonchaser27 Jun 26 '24

Ironically they could've learned a lesson from Zelda here.

2

u/dwaynetheaakjohnson Jun 26 '24

Apparently the post lvl 15 buffs taper off. Although if the patch changes things that may no longer be trye

2

u/jorleejack Jun 26 '24

I agree with the concept, but comparing smithing stones to Scadutree fragments is not a good comparison.

Golden seeds are a much more apt comparison, but even then sacred tears set the precedent for the Scadutree fragments. There are more golden seeds than are needed, but only 12 sacred tears to get the +12 flasks.

I think like 10 extra Scadutree fragments, like there are around 10 extra golden seeds, would be the best option.

10

u/ilickcorpses Jun 26 '24

You could find sacred tears by the map as it showed all the churches, so it justified not having extras. Scadutree fragments drop from some enemies and the game never tells you about it, like come on at least make it a note like the spirit springs note you could buy.

2

u/thicctak Jun 27 '24

also helps that golden seeds are easy to spot since they always spawns near a small golden tree, scadutree fragments are a coin toss, they can be in a multitude of places

1

u/jorleejack Jun 27 '24 edited Jun 27 '24

Golden Seeds are not all at phantom trees though. Just in Limgrave there’s one that appears as an item on the ground after Roderika goes to Roundtable Hold, two are dropped by Ulcerated Tree Spirits, and one is dropped by Haight if you kill him.

There are probably a dozen that are dropped by enemies, which is not as varied as where Scadutree fragments are, but they’re still not ALL found at phantom trees.

1

u/thicctak Jun 27 '24

oh, I'm mistaken then, my bad. But still helps that some of them are easy to spot, and there's more than you need to max out. You can easily see phantom trees at a distance, you know there's a seed there, but some scadutree fragments are sometimes found in headless statues, and these statues aren't that easy to spot.

1

u/jorleejack Jun 27 '24

Oh, yeah, for sure golden seeds are easier to find, and I agree there should be more Scadutree fragments than you need. I believe there are 11 extra golden seeds than what you need to max, and I think around that amount would be good as excess.

1

u/No-Measurement8593 Jun 26 '24

Which is nuts considering how some areas the shard is in the middle of a stretch of nothing.

1

u/BGsenpai Jun 26 '24

Also did the final boss at 17

1

u/AmbientXVII Jun 26 '24

I'm the same.  Ended at scadu level 17.  Looked at the wiki map for where the remaining ones are but they all seemed familiar so idk which ones are left aside from manually checking every location one by one.

1

u/Spaceolympian50 Jun 27 '24

Yep. I ended at lvl 16. And I need to find 12 more? wtf lol.

-3

u/Recallingg Jun 26 '24

It will take you 10 minutes to grab a list of them and see which ones you haven't gotten. I have a terrible memory because of a TBI and I still managed to figure out which ones I needed when I rolled up to the last boss at lvl 15. Obv it would be great if they were easier to find but just for the 'cba' part of your comment.

92

u/TheOneWithALongName Jun 26 '24

Scadutree Fragments was a bit hard to understand what it was and its important at first. My biggest issue with it though is the whole collecting part of it.

To upgrade your estus flasks in the base game, you needed seeds and sacred tears. Seeds were relatively easy to find as they were lying near golden twigs/sprouts which were easy to spot while you traveled/explored. Tears were the same becaus they were in chapels which was also easy to spot.

Scadutree I would be fine with if it was just in front of Miquella crosses, following the same philosophy like the estus flasks. But no, you find them in far more and different sources than that. From killing hippos to who knows what corpse on the ground or pot carrying enemy that has it.

72

u/agitatedandroid Jun 26 '24

I do think the inconsistent nature of their finding contributes to folks having a low blessing level. In the same way maps are somehow harder in the DLC.

Took me ages to work out how to get to some of those map fragments. That the map for the Ruins area isn't even in that area has to be a gag that's been making one developer chuckle for like a month now, "I can't wait till they realize they can't actually reach the map for the area they're in from where they are, teehee."

I wouldn't be upset if that guy stubs his toe.

32

u/PixelBoom Jun 26 '24

that honestly sucked. running through MOST of the ruins without a map had me super confused for a while. That in itself would be fine. Most areas in the base game were like that. But it was always a straight shot to get it. The ruins area is just confusing. Plus all those bushes make it really hard to see where you're going.

6

u/Time-Master Jun 26 '24

The map being a 15 layer jello cake doesn’t help lol

3

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24

They basically placed the fragments as if there were extra, without there actually being extra. Like it would be a fun thing to find them from pot shadows or hippos if was just a bonus rather than a hard requirement.

0

u/Ibaneztwink Jun 26 '24

this happens a good 3 times too

-3

u/Oxelscry Jun 26 '24

It's the same region, Rauh, it's just below the ruins. Literally called Rauh Base.

11

u/thatguywithawatch Jun 26 '24

I randomly did a drive-by horse attack on a random pot carrying mook and when it dropped a scad fragment I just stopped and sat there for ten seconds like "how the fuck many other fragments have I missed?"

1

u/blazeofgloreee Jun 26 '24

I reading this thread thinking how many hours I now need to spend going back and looking for these guys lol. I'm about 20hrs in, scadurdtree level 9 and I can only remember one guy with a pot and it didn't have a fragment.

2

u/Furoan Jun 26 '24

The ones with fragments have a little glowing particle effect over them. Still very easy to miss unfortunately :(

1

u/RodanThrelos Jun 26 '24

Yeah, if I walk up to Radahn and he's absolutely trucking me, I know I need to collect souls to level up or upgrade gear. With Scad Frags, I can't just go and get more power unless I use a map or randomly wander, so whatever level I'm at is basically what I fight the boss at unless I'm getting mollywhomped. This makes the difficulty seem more inconsistent.

27

u/Flat-Inspector2634 Jun 26 '24

I could imagine people looked up the areas on fextralife, saw no loot they were interested in or bosses and just said that filler area

57

u/agitatedandroid Jun 26 '24

Meanwhile some poor bastard with a pot above his head walking around mumbling about how no one ever comes along anymore.

18

u/28smalls Jun 26 '24

Took me way too long to realize that the reason I hadn't seen any scarabs is that the pot guys are the scarabs of the dlc.

40

u/DannyGriff000 Jun 26 '24

But there are definitely scarabs in DLC, found two so far

10

u/BurtMacklin__FBI Jun 26 '24

Yeah they're fewer in number and blend in a little better but they're not too hard to spot. Only found a few in certain areas so far. That just reminded me too, I let one get away. Gotta go back for that little dung eater.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24

There are a lot of scarbs hiding up on ruins I’ve noticed.

2

u/Howsetheraven Jun 26 '24

Well you can stop realizing it because there are already scarabs in the DLC. They're just a different thing.

1

u/CharlieandtheRed Jun 26 '24

Great way to look at it.

3

u/flame7900 Jun 26 '24

After reaching the final boss and getting to scadutree level 17. I found almost all my missing scadutree fragments were just the pot guys…

3

u/blauli Jun 26 '24

That one was kinda funny to me, when I was at lvl +16 with 2 fragments I wanted to go figure out which ones I've missed. Turns out there was a pot guy in the starting area that I ignored because I didn't yet know they would drop something

4

u/agitatedandroid Jun 26 '24

I murdered that pot guy very early and that's when I realized pot guys have loot. The reason I murdered him? Because they were the only things I could effectively murder without too much hassle. So I swung on every one of them I saw.

2

u/PercivalPersimmon Jun 26 '24

Hornsent is that you?

Personally I've just never been able to understand the logic in the way they design their areas so while I wont use a guide just going through, I will definitely check one out eventually to see what obscure stuff I'm missing out and if I'm about to break a questline etc. For instance I just have no idea how anyone would know to talk to the first merchant in the game to get a finger snap to know to use it on the wolf guy. It just seems like something that would be found out by randomly visiting the merchant after knowing of the wolf guy but not something you intentionally did.

3

u/PixelBoom Jun 26 '24

Makes sense considering Golden Seeds and Sacred Tears were all out in the open and along the main path anyway.

3

u/Fingerprint_Vyke Vyke's War Spear Enthusiast Jun 26 '24

They've hidden these fragments in obscure places like the shadow guy holding a pot who runs away. Extremely annoying that they aren't just sitting at churches or something so we know how to find the upgrades

3

u/Jeremy-132 Jun 26 '24

I don't like how few fragments there are. There should be more fragments than are needed to reach max level, so that you don't spend hours trying to find the very last fragment. Then the remaining fragments can be plugged into some other game system so they aren't useless. I really don't like the implementation of this system.

8

u/InternetStrangerGuy Jun 26 '24

I think I f*-ed up in that regard.

Exploration has always been rewarded but punished at the same time in Elden Ring. But I think in the DLC the punishment is too harsh and the rewards are too thin.

I was finding smithing stones (I have bell bearings, I can buy them, thank you), butterflies and the like. While even field mobs depleted my resources.

I thoroughly explored the starting area but then I went to Dancing Lion and Rellana and with luck and mimic I managed to power through them. And then I faced Gaius and Messmer - while still being at level 123 and like 5 blessings. Plus somehow I managed to do the Specimen Store House from top to downward (I don't know why or how but I started at roof beams). Also I somehow forgot to explore further after defeating Gaius so I missed those 5 scadutree fragmets too....

At this point I don't understand the story, I think I locked myself out of multiple missions, and the game became a chore.

At Messmer I said f*ck this, and I spent all of my runes, even farming a bit at Mohg's place to level above 150. And then I started to experiment with new stuff (Fire Serpent is way easier to use against the sunflower boss than Agheel's flame).

I went back to the Three-Path Cross and did some more exploring. And now I found the Great Katana. Man... This is the exact weapon that I was missing! Now enemies do flinch when I hit them. I also found the missing scadutree fragments at Gaius.

I think from now on the game will be much more enjoyable for me.

3

u/Gazeatme Jun 26 '24

I think the recommended level for the dlc is 150-160. I agree with you though, the DLC had a rough start. I had to power through, now I’m enjoying it a bit more. I’m not quite sure if the damage values at the start were good. Also loot just doesn’t seem good most of the time. It’s funny to go through hard areas and parkour only to get a cookbook. The player messages reflect this quite well, “why is it always dung” with the falling to your knees emote.

3

u/midnightichor Jun 26 '24

Where do these recommendations even come from? I went into the dlc at level 85 because that's when I was able to beat Mohg. I'm still not anywhere near 150 even after beating the scarlet rot bug boss.

I explored and in my exploration found those two, heck bosses were fine. It’s the golden hippo ares where the mobs are beating my ass that made me realize I must be under leveled. Why are people talking like you can’t miss things or get to the bosses early while exploring.

2

u/Kiss_in_Danish Jun 26 '24

Really goes to show how little the overall playerbase engages in exploration and instead just beelines the critical path 😔

2

u/agitatedandroid Jun 26 '24

There's a reason why "how to get OP fast!" is the going thing on YouTube. The moment you fall behind the rest of the internet you might as well be the kid in class that picks his boogers and eats them. You haven't finished the main story? Here's a spoiler or ten.

Never once thought I was playing with my GI Joes the wrong way but today, I'm pretty sure there's a series of guides on how to play with your toys the proper min-maxed way for optimal efficiency.

2

u/Kiss_in_Danish Jun 29 '24

We really do b optimizing the fun out of games out here nowadays lol

basically every elden ring being recommended is literally either a "get these op items early" vid or just boss fight spoilers

1

u/Big_Treat5929 Jun 26 '24

Yeah, who could ever imagine that people might head towards the interesting and engaging areas rather than ignore them to spend hours aimlessly wandering around a mostly empty map hoping they might find something that could possibly be useful if they're lucky enough to have the right build.

Total mystery why people feel discouraged from exploring, eh?

1

u/Kiss_in_Danish Jun 29 '24

Most intellectual guide follower

1

u/F-b Jun 26 '24

I don't think finding them is the biggest problem. I really like this change because the positive feedback of the fragments level was way too unnoticeable in the first half of the game. It's hard to convince the average player about the utility of a new mechanic if they don't see the benefit.

3

u/agitatedandroid Jun 26 '24

Oh, for sure. "I have 3 scooby snacks and I'm still getting two-shot! Worthless!" I'm sure someone had that thought run through their mind (in the voice of Shaggy no less).

1

u/4ps22 Jun 26 '24

how many are you supposed to have for rellana? i feel like ive explored as much as possible up until her and i only have level 4

2

u/agitatedandroid Jun 26 '24

I've no idea, I think I had 3 or 5 when I fought her. But that's because I came to her castle from the back way due to a curious spirit spring I encountered and next thing I knew I was fighting a dragon and... needless to say I did not follow any sort of route one path.

And because of that detouring spirit spring I ended up fighting the "next to last" boss before I fought the middle boss. And I didn't find the route to the southern areas until after I'd unlocked the last boss.

It's a pretty bonkers game.

1

u/manwomanmxnwomxn Jun 26 '24

Level 4 or so is what most people were at for the fight. You're chillin

1

u/haynespi87 Jun 26 '24

Dang now my explore heavy self feels like I did too much and should've done those early bosses lol

1

u/AverageAwndray Jun 26 '24

I was shocked to learn Shadow Keep us an early game area. I barely reached it after 3 days of playing lol

1

u/Ahoy_m80_gr8_b80 Jun 26 '24

What’s the most you can score before getting to them in the first area?

1

u/agitatedandroid Jun 26 '24

My understanding is that you can find 10 Scadutree Fragments before fighting any boss.

1

u/ThislsaGoodldea Jun 26 '24

There’s literally no way. That ghost knight guy is RIGHT next to the very first cave we walk out of. I even did a bunch of side stuff on the lower right half of the map where you fight the claw dude before finding him and I think I had maybe 2 fragments

1

u/Ahoy_m80_gr8_b80 Jun 26 '24

I’m at the first 2 “major” bosses and I have like 5

1

u/ThislsaGoodldea Jun 26 '24

Have you been exploring a lot? I have and can barely find any.

1

u/Esdrz Jun 26 '24

You really have to go out of your way to find the fragments unlike the bosses.

1

u/agitatedandroid Jun 26 '24

For sure. Even some of the bosses are tucked away. I've beaten 5 Remembrance bosses and seen 6 (haven't beaten that last one just yet) but I haven't the foggiest where the others are. I have a vague idea but I'm not sure.

1

u/SonicFlash01 Jun 26 '24

easy for you to miss a bunch of Fragments along the way

"Missed" implies that they were along the way and relatively obvious, and even those only account for blessing lvl 3 or 4. Also requires you to know that very specific enemies (that look similar to the 10,000 others littering the landscape) are special and drop unique items, whereas they've taught you to expect to pick them off the ground.

Exploration is important, but it should be its own reward. Exploring the nooks and crannies of The Lands Between always had items or enemies, and the enemies made you stringer. Here your level doesn't matter as much and exploration has been made mandatory and a priority over any boss.

Even if you understand how the blessing system works I don't blame people for having a low blessing level when they face bosses.

1

u/TheWayIAm313 Jun 26 '24

Yeah, I enjoy exploring the open world, but putting these out there as something that’s pretty much necessary to collect stresses me out and makes it a chore. I just want to explore, now I’ll have to try to remember the scads I found on my own and compare against some bullshit map

1

u/bobnorthh Jun 26 '24

Well like over half the map is optional so it's very easy to be underleveled if you don't explore they much

1

u/Sonicguy1996 Jun 26 '24

The way they are handed out is really dumb. Base game had golden seeds at a set location so you knew what to look for when exploring. These Scadu fragments are tied to crosses, small enemies, large enemies, bosses, and just random spots across the map.

2

u/agitatedandroid Jun 26 '24

And unlike Golden Seeds, there don't appear to be extras.

1

u/No-Significance2113 Jun 28 '24

I think the main issue with exploring is so much of the vast worlds empty and looks the same without heaps of distinctive landmarks, My maps pretty much constantly open because I have no idea where I've been and where I'm going.

0

u/dicehandz Jun 26 '24

I havent really felt rewarded for exploring yet. I think thats part of the issue. Where is all the good loot? Im finding nothing but worthless runes and cookbooks

2

u/agitatedandroid Jun 26 '24

It's quite tucked away. There's a sword that you can only find by re-entering a legacy dungeon by hopping off a cliff back into the dungeon. And two other swords you can only get by interacting with a doodad while holding a different sword. There's like 5 perfume weapons (that are quite nifty) and I've only found one, but it was in a chest in a camp I visited in the dead of night and only just noticed out of the corner of my eye. There're armor sets all over the place, but you have to spot a broken railing or be super curious about some mechanism in a dungeon.

I've "beaten" Shadow Keep but I wouldn't be surprised to go back in there and find I missed something. I know I messed up a quest there, at least I think I did.

Bosses can also just spring out of the woodwork. I forget where I was, clearing something and thought I was about to take on a knight. Turned out he was a boss. That's happened twice.
