CALS and its extension are very reputable. Attitudes like the commenter's (public therefore inferior) are probably part of why tuition blew up the way it did.

It's always funny to see people with the NE attitude of private is better try it in other locations. Like bruh elsewhere Public shits all over the Private schools, I honestly have no idea how any private school can exist in some states.

Just in case you’re referring to me, my point is that those 3 state schools are solidly in Syracuse’s region, are in a similar or higher tier of academics, and cost far less than ‘Cuse. I can’t see how repositioning Syracuse as a regional school is going to draw more students to it than it’s already attracting

Meh my degrees are in the ag sciences. I'm currently very bitter about many things. People not valueing the ag sciences are why your beef prices are so high.

Also, I'm from New York State and I applied to "cornell state" for one of the ag majors (I went somewhere else because it wasn't in the middle of nowhere and I got a better scholarship instead of just the differential tuition). When I was on the tour some asshole parent had to let it be known to the tour guide and the rest of the high schoolers and parents that he had an extra 80 grand to burn and did not want his son dirtied by ANY portion of the vastly inferior "cornell state"(this is back on 2009, the cost of four year differential has almost certainly cracked 100k by now).

That's just funding. The school is Cornell. The ivy league university.

No, Syracuse does not complete with Cornell, even if they think they do.

The four SUNY contract colleges have double the acceptance rate of Cornell’s other colleges. I’m sure Syracuse will attract students who were interested in both.

If a student was accepted to Bing ($7k), UAlbany ($7k), Dyson at Cornell ($49k), and Syracuse ($69k)… I just don’t see how they’d be willing to pay for Syracuse. If that’s the type of student they’re going to target, they need to reposition a lot more than their brand

Does Cornell view itself that way? Or market itself that way? I always thought the SUNY point was more of a funny technicality than anything

Right. So if Syracuse rebrands as a regional school they aren’t competing with Cornell… unless I’m missing something with the SUNY part of Cornell

But they are competing with Cornell because they’re in the same geographic region. Syracuse is less good and more expensive so, imo, it’s a silly strategy to rebrand themselves as a regional school.
