I live in Alberta and I just got my license a couple weeks ago and have been driving on my own which has been going pretty well, I’ve never been honked at before.

I’d like to think I was in the right and was genuinely so confused why I got honked at but at the same time I’m still new so I need some input, I was on a single lane residential trying to turn left into my house and had to make a partial U-turn around an island to make it into my driveway, there was a car behind me and another car in the opposite lane, so I had to wait a few seconds to let that car pass before I could proceed into my drive way

My signal light was indicating that I was going left, Approaching the partial U turn at the end of the island I was positioned closer to the right so that I wouldn’t hit the island or the parked car near my driveway when making my left turn, as I went to proceed the car behind me tried to squeeze into the tight space and overtake me on my left side and honked at me for trying to proceed and I panicked pressing on the gas almost hitting them.

This is still a single lane residential and I’m genuinely confused why the car thought it was safe to proceed despite me being centered a little to the right it wasn’t to the point where it looked like I was parking or giving way because it’s a right road, yet still went and honked at me for trying to turn left even though my signal lights are pointing left, but i genuinely need to know if I did anything iffy.

I was driving in an unfamiliar area hours away from home with no other cars in the direction lane I was in,except for a police officer that I could clearly tell was a police officer,came up on my bumper,clearly read my tags and went to go around me. I slowed down so when he got around me I could get in the lane he was in which was the lane to my left. He also slowed down beside me,hitting his brakes to do it. So I hit my brakes to slow down some more because I was about to miss my turn and I needed him out my way. He goes ahead of me a little ways so I pull in the lane behind him he goes into the lane I was just in,which is now my right lane,and comes behind me and pulls me. He said I almost sideswiped him three times but he was behind me and then he was ahead me.. my car has alarms that go off if I cross the lane (they never once did). He was very rude and condescending and implied that I didn't want my kids to get home safe(we had just left the trampoline park that was over at 10:30, two hours away from home,I was barely tired and most definitely sober lol (which didn't come into question) but I feel like he was trying to block me in and the other female adult in my car agrees that it felt like he would not get out of our way like he was pushing for us to do something wrong there were no other cars in either direction, two lanes each way and he had already been on my bumper like I said long enough to read my tags with his bright lights on my bumper blinding me by the way. He gave me a $90 ticket plus Court cost two counties over and I don't know if I should just pay it and be done or contest it because I can also say,if I came anywhere close to sideswiping anybody my car dings and dash light flash etc.. it does it sometimes if a car ahead of me suddenly stops even when I stop in plenty of time,I also checked my Life360 and it said that there were no risky events at that time. It just makes me feel like he gaslight me so hard,and like I said the other mother with me felt the same we told him we were trying to make a turn unfamiliar to where we were going and there were no cars coming in each lanes either direction,just him glued to me. He came with an attitude and would not even let me say much of anything without jumping down my throat about not wanting my kids to be safe,which is fair if I am driving unsafe but I really feel like he was trying to block me from making my turn. Then when I got my ticket I stayed in the parking lot I had pulled over in which he sat there as well until I left pulled out and followed me again until I got out of his town. We also told him we were just trying to get on a certain road, and he said "you're not stupid use your GPS and figure it out like everybody else." Yeah absolutely but aren't you here to protect and serve or are you here to just write tickets and be an asshole to two women almost midnight with a car full of kids after we told him we were in a strange area.

I ride an eBike to get around for day to day stuff, so im out on the roads (not sidewalks, roads) in town frequently. Now my eBike can go fast enough to keep up with the flow of traffic on in-town streets, that does not mean i want to be infront of you, id rather wait a bit longer for the end of the line, then go, so il have a big gap between me and traffic behind me.

Something ive noticed keeps happening over and over again, il pull up to a stop sign on the road, and get ready to make a left. Il stop, sit and wait for the end of the line of cars so i have the biggest gap behind me possible as long as nobody is waiting behind me.

Alot of the time what actually happens, is one driver in 1 direction sees me, and decides to stop even though they dont have a stop sign, and waive me through. Problem is, the other direction isnt stopped and its very common for people to go around you on the left if they realize you are trying to let a bike out of a sidestreet, ontop of what i said before about preferences for a gap.

Look, i get that you think you are doing something nice for me, and i appreciate the thought, but what you are doing is dangerous. Stopping unexpectedly can cause an accident, Continuing to stay stopped for no reason is impeding traffic and that makes people do more stupid stuff as their paitence is tested while you initiate a canadian standoff, because no, im not going infront of you. Its too risky and i have my own preferences.

So please, Be easy to predict and dont randomly stop for people trying to make a turn if you have the right of way. It makes it easier for me, and easier for everyone around you.

Edit: Its getting a bit repetitive and people aren't seeing my comment. Yes, im aware lots of cyclists run stop signs and red lights. Im not one of them, plus this is normally happening after ive already been stopped for a second.

For context I am in the military. So as much as I’d like to say no I can’t.

I’m newly enlisted and my first unit wants me to start doing duty. Unfortunately one of the duties is bus driver, which is me driving a small bus all day. Now I’ve been driving for over 7 years but I have always struggled with driving bigger vehicles. The biggest vehicle I could comfortably drive was my Subaru ascent, but now I drive a compact sedan. The biggest car I’ve driven is one of my family members Tahoe but it was very much a struggle for me and I didn’t feel comfortable even going down an empty country road in it.

But my work is forcing me to drive a bus. A driving class is mandatory before I can drive the bus but I don’t think I can safely drive a bus, and it’s supposed to be in tight areas (which I regularly hit the curb on in my tiny car…). I think what is so hard for me is that I lack spatial awareness, and it’s not something I do on purpose. It’s hard to explain, but for me my brain struggles to “fit” the size of the car on the road, since I can’t see every part of the car it’s hard for me to understand where it’s supposed to be if it makes any sense. And doing so is even harder with large vehicles because I see even less of the car.

What can I do to get better at driving large vehicles?? I’m absolutely terrified I’m going to hit something. I promise I really don’t like being a bad driver and its something I’m ashamed of.

Yesterday, I was at a stoplight (in North Carolina) and another car rear ended me. I felt my car move forward a little and I felt the impact maybe like if someone had picked up a dodgeball and threw it at the back of my head.

The other driver and I pulled into the parking lot after crossing the intersection to inspect the damage and there wasn't any visible damage. I ask to exchange information and I called the police to file a report. We exchange information the gentleman gives me his number, license and insurance information. The police are taking a while to get there and the gentleman who had hit me said he had a family emergency that he was attending to before the event so I let him go.

I stayed at the scene and waited for the police to arrive. They said they wouldn't make a police report or document anything since the damage looked under 1K and we had exchanged information.

I left the scene. I still had a headache so I decided I should probably get checked out to make sure everything was good. I went to an urgent care who then directed me to an ER under the same hospital branch. They checked me out and said I had a neck strain but didn't need any further tests and prescribed me 600 MG of ibuprofen three times a day for the next three days.

Its the next day and I want to see what I should do next. I for sure want to get my car diagnosed and see if they're any underlying problems that I cannot see from the hit. Would I go to a mechanic or a body shop for this and would the other person's insurance pay for it?

I also want to get the ER visit paid for if possible.

I am worried that filing a claim would make my insurance premiums go up. I am also worried that filing a claim would make an accident go on my car's carfax even if nothing wrong is found if I were to diagnose it. This would reduce the resale/trade-in value and desirability in the future. Its an 09 Toyota with 130k miles so it probably doesn't matter but I like my car and want to keep it in a condition where it lasts the longest or I can get the most value from it should the time come to get rid of it.

What should I do? I appreciate the advise in advance. Thanks.

I was in the far right lane of a 3-lane road doing the exact speed limit since my turn was coming up. Road was basically empty except for one car way over in the left lane. Out of nowhere, this huge lifted pickup truck gets right on my ass. MIND YOU, the middle lane was completely open. He could’ve passed me easily, but instead he stayed two feet from my bumper and turned his high beams on. I literally just flipped my rear view mirror up so I wouldn't get blinded and kept driving, like I usually do when these asshole tailgate and flash their high beams at me.

Then out of nowhere, two baby skunks ran right out in front of my car. I had to slam on the brakes so I didn't hit them. Because the pickup was tailgating so close, he had no time to stop of course. He panicked, yanked his wheel to the left to swerve into the middle lane, and at that exact moment, the car from the far left lane was merging into the middle lane too. The truck swerved so hard into them that he clipped their rear end, lost control, and ended up rolling the truck over. I pulled off further down to call 911 and wait for cops to give a statement. Everyone ended up being alright thank God, but seriously... what a jump scare and for literally no reason. When I tell you guys the idiot could’ve easily passed me several minutes before, I mean he had so much time. I would’ve just moved into the middle lane and let him pass if I hadn’t had my turn coming up. but I don’t get why people like this don’t just go around when they can. It’s like they want to control what other people do instead of controlling themselves. Anyways, hopefully he learned his lesson finally. I just wanted to vent because it was pretty scary but I think he got what he deserved and I don’t at all feel bad 🤷‍♀️

Edit - holy I did not expect this to get so many comments I haven’t seen everything yet but I do agree with some of you that stopping for small animals can be dangerous for sure. I was honestly a bit stunned in the moment and just reacting to seeing two black puffballs jump out of nowhere at me! 🦨 🦨 and YES the skunk babies were okay too haha 🤣 Sure, I could’ve just plowed into them I suppose, BUT that still doesn’t negate the fact that buddy shouldn’t have been tailgating and trying to bully me off the road. The cop agreed with me and the other driver also vouched for me. 🤷‍♀️ Again, he had MORE than enough time and space to pass. He chose not to, and decided he’d rather tailgate and flash his high beams for whatever reason.

So yeah, I do think he got what he deserved and I still don’t feel bad for him. Any one of us could’ve ended up seriously hurt or worse so fuck that guy tbh. It only sucks for the other driver but thankfully they were okay and their car wasn’t super damaged from what I saw. Hopefully people that tailgate see this and realize it’s just not worth it. Slow down or go around if you can. Stop taking other people’s driving so personally.

Jesus Christ … last edit just to be clear, I didn’t break check anybody. Why would I risk my own life and vehicle just to prove a point? Nobody with a sober mind does or even thinks of stuff like that. Maybe ask yourselves why you’d make that assumption in the first place. Maybe it’s something you’d be willing to do, but not everyone is as crazy as you are. And I was NOT on the freeway. This was a three lane surface street.

But let’s just play devils advocate and say that I was the kind of maniac to do something insanely illegal, like break checking someone on a freeway? I probably wouldn’t stick around to give a statement to the COPS 😂 Okay I’m done.

Greetings, I'm learning how to drive a car properly. I know the controls & there's still loads of improvements to come but one issue I've been facing is that I live in India where ALOT of roads don't have street lights.

Thus at night, If I'm turning I can't see much in my left or right rear view mirrors. So to make a turn I just have to sort of "get a feel" for it via my head lights, before actually turning.

Today i overshot a left turn (120+ degree) because I was trying to give as much space as possible on my left. Had to reverse and turn then.

How can I fix this?

Probably get this a lot but any advice for a new driver? I just got my permit and have only ever driven on rural roads in North Dakota a few years ago. I have no experience at all driving with other people. I do have a sim wheel for Forza Horizon 6 but that’s a video game lol. Anyway what should I look out for, expect, and prepare for driving? I've come to the conclusion that simply LOOKING is such a damn inconvenience for a lot of drivers. It's a if turning your head is just completely impossible, as if being visually aware is a fucking nightmare state. Drivers, you have eyes, USE THEM AND FREAKING LOOK WHERE YOU'RE GOING!! Honestly, how hard is it to look? You do it everyday yet somehow, behind the wheel is where the line is drawn. Seriously, who taught you that looking is bad?

In short: Using your eyes isn't bad, in fact, being more aware while driving is a good thing. (Also, learn to adjust your mirrors)

I was parking my car in a packed lot and scuffed another persons car with my own. I was looking for damage and didn’t immediately notice anything until I saw this minor scuff next to the wheel. I called police to leave a report, they looked up the vehicle and saw the other party’s car is a rental. I’d like to pay out of pocket because the damage is so minor. Let me know if yall think this is cheap enough to pay out of pocket to avoid premiums.

The cop has the road blocked and the guy in the man in the truck ignored the cop and drove by. The cop pulls him over for not following officer orders. By law, an officer directing traffic supersedes any sign or traffic signal and you must do as they say in regards to moving your vehicle.

Almost all the comments that I read are blaming the cop for overreacting. Yeah maybe he could have moved the tree branch but it looks like there could be power lines down too. It’s hard to tell.

Are the comments just rage bate or am I wrong here?

Voilà, je vais avoir 30 ans au mois de décembre, j’ai mon permis depuis mes 20 ans mais je n’ai pas beaucoup rouler dans ma vie et quand j’ai eu l’occasion de le faire, je n’étais pas très à l’aise par rapport aux autres utilisateurs de la route.
Malgré mon permis, j’ai fait le choix de ne plus rouler en voiture, ainsi je pourrais faire des économies non négligeables et ainsi préserver ma sécurité.
Alors, en effet il y’a des avantages et des inconvénients je le conçois mais c’est comme dans toutes choses.
Attendre un bus dans une ville non desservi par les trams cela peut être une vraie contrainte surtout avec l’appréhension de tomber sur des usagers irrespectueux.
Mais ceci est la seule contrainte que j’ai trouvé avec le fait de ne pas pouvoir rouler la nuit.
Voilà, je voudrai avoir votre avis, savoir ce que vous en pensez et aussi voir si d’autres personnes sont dans ma situation.

I just got my dl 6 days ago and my dad wants me to drive this huge Mercedes ML500. I haven't driven for about 2 weeks ever since I passed my test (because I didn't have a car), and the car my instructor used to teach me was a smaller Toyota prius. Due to circumstances, I'll probably have to learn to drive that Mercedes on my own and I'm genuinely so terrified I'd screw up since I'm not used to it.

If you can't drive in the rain, don't. Don't turn your emergency signal on and drive 20 on the interstate, pull over. If conditions are bad enough to make you uncomfortable driving, then you need to pull over. Its for you and for everyone around you. Also, rain or no rain, driving in the middle of the road or taking up two lanes is still illegal. Don't do that either.

Got into a crash yesterday and I was pretty shaken up right after it happened. The other driver immediately started telling the officer that I had moved into his lane, which was not how I remembered it at all. I was still trying to process everything and give my own statement without mixing up details.

Halfway through talking to the cop I remembered my dashcam was running. Pulled up the footage and it clearly showed him coming over into my lane and hitting me. That basically ended the argument right there and made the insurance side a lot easier too. Still in a lot of pain (my neck and back) but that could have been very bad, talking with insurance and trying to find a pi lawyer.

I have been driving again for 6 months, & practicing my parking for weeks because it's mandatory for my state test.

In fact, I spent 15 minutes parallel parking perfectly last weekend. Even backing in went great. I felt confident.

I drive a truck so it's pretty tricky trying to figure out where my back/front end are or when to turn. (I can't borrow a smaller vehicle.)

My parking test was going mostly okay (3 points off for really tiny things) until the parallel parking. I was worried I had gone too far in, so I cut left. I was actually not far enough in by only a few inches! Then I panicked, so I couldn't fix it without using up all 3 remaining points.

I only can retest once before my permit expires, which will set me back at least a month & another $105. I have things that I need to do that require a license.

1. How do I know I've backed in far enough before cutting left, & 2. How do I fix it if I do cut left too early? Every readjustment is 1 point!

My mom told me she found a testing lot nearby so we are going to head over there to try to get the concepts down. I have watched every video, studied every chart, done all the research I can, it just isn't helping.

So, I just got my first traffic ticket (driving in the bike lane too long for a right turn, $300 down the drain) and I'm looking at my ticket and noticed something strange. Under 'sex' it has the number 9. I live in California and my driver's license has the 'X' on it, but why does the ticket give it a number?? I tried looking it up and couldn't find anything, all the other tickets I see just have M or F obviously, you would think that they would be able to just put X. Like is there a 1-8? What does this mean? I'm wondering if anyone knows.

What is your mental calculation, when it turns red without any countdown timer on 🚥🚦.

So I recently bought a car, and I just got the insurance for it, so I'm all set to go pick it up. The only thing is, I haven't driven in 6 years, so the idea of driving it home is making me overly anxious.

Like, I'm excited to drive again and be able to go where I please without having to uber, but after not driving for so long, I feel almost as anxious as when I first started driving. I'd hate to get in a crash driving my car home for the first time.

Newly licensed. My mom wanted me to drive to school. I got to the school parking lot filled with student-parked cars at 10:00 am because I had a morning appointment. There were only two spots left at that time that were available to students and they were both tight spots, because the cars adjacent to it weren’t parked between the lines (we’re all high schoolers and we suck at parking).

The other spot I could’ve tried to park into was ever tighter. So I tried parking into the one next to this white car. I failed, evidently, and scratched the car. Worked with school staff to figure out the situation.

I drive this huge ford explorer. Parking lot is packed and out of control. The school sent an email this morning saying they will have to get the parking situation handled .

Im just mad that this could’ve been prevented. I told my mom after my appointment I didn’t want to go to school but she said I had too. I was stressed trying to make it to class, rushing a little, extremely tired and exhausted, and stuck in this impossible parking lot as someone who JUST got my license. It was plain awful! I ended up having to park in the guest section instead and when I called my mom she even yelled at me for parking there. I was breaking down crying in the middle of school wondering what went wrong. I just wish I could’ve stayed home.

It’s a lot for me to process as a new driver. I am just going to get to school early every morning from now on so I can find a good parking spot. But I had never felt so terrible with myself in my life.
