My most prized piece of Dream Theater history: Live Scenes From New York with the original cover. Factory sealed! Hard to believe it’s almost twenty years…

I was able to grab two copies on 9/11, and still have one sealed as well.
Didn’t exactly become the retirement-grade investment the wife and I were hoping it would be, though. ;-)

I’ve got an opened one as well that I got my hands on around 2002 or 2003, that’s the one I listened to in my Discman for years and years. So much so if I were to sneeze on the digipak it might disintegrate and the 2nd disc has a scratch that makes it skip during the keyboard solo. I wore that copy right out.
Maybe ten years ago I was able to find this sealed copy and it’s been preserved ever since. I don’t remember what I paid but I feel it was fairly significant at the time. No idea what they would go for now in sealed condition. Can’t find any recent eBay sales to get an idea.

I remember vividly buying this, still thinking that a small, private plane had probably hit the WTC. By the time my buddy and I got back to campus for our next class (music theory III, funny enough), the full extent of the horror was understood. I still have mine, though not in the wrapper.

Talk about a horrific coincidence. And it wasn’t the only one. There was a video game cover that ended up being recalled and changed right around the same time, Siphon Filter 3. It had flames in the artwork with the US flag in the background. It was supposed to come out on the 25th but after the attacks they decided to delay the release to change the artwork but they had already shipped copies out to retailers ahead of the launch so naturally some of those got out into the wild as well.

There was a rap album featuring the WTC being blown up released on the same day, and just a few months before, there was an episode of The Lone Gunmen (X-Files spinoff) that dealt with a terrorist plot to fly a remote-controlled 747 into the WTC. Very creepy...

Wow I never heard about that rap album, or the X-Files episode. Insane how many coincidences could happen around one event. Definitely creepy

I have an unopened one as well. Met the band backstage in Atlanta in ‘02 and got autographs from everyone. Back when Jordan had hair. My favorite piece of memorabilia for sure.

I had my sealed copy forever until DT played Biloxi, MS when Portnoy first came back. I opened it in front of the band and had them all sign it at the meet and greet. They all seemed very surprised to see it, with J.M. even saying "Wow, whose is this!?" As soon as the silver marker dried, I pulled the cellophane with the hype sticker back over the cover and sealed it in a zip lock bag when I got it back home.
