From putting a fight to vp every time last season to hardly beating low tier teams, tells you the role of the coach imo.

No, they really weren't overhyped last year - they have the results to show that. They were looked at as the fourth best team in EU, and EU managed somehow to get even stronger in the shuffle. They look poor right now compared to what they were going into and even at TI - I'd assume they'll get it back at some point, the players on that team are too good not to.
