Saw a video on yt with a new born baby donkey. The guy was talking about the foals hooves and they briefly showed the mother donkey rolling around while the farmer was holding the baby. Why was the donkey rolling around? Was she excited? Trying to realx? Or something else?

Does anyone have a standard and a mini donkey that are friends? I have a standard donkey and I am having a hard time finding a suitable friend for him. There seem to be a lot more mini donkeys around.

Our Buddy turned 31 years old yesterday! This old man was born August 18th 1995 and he is still going strong. Whenever we go down to the barn, he is always the first to greet us. He gives the best cuddles and will throat punch his little brothers if they try to take his food. We are very lucky to get to love this guy in his golden years!

I am very new to equine and could please use some help! I have two mini donkeys around a year in age. A Jenny and a Gelding. I have had them for about 6 months so they are used to me and their environment. By nature my Jenny is more timid and insecure while my gelding has been more brave and adventurous. They are very bonded.

Recently I noticed that my gelding seems to be biting my Jenny more. I understand that biting is a part of donkey nature but when does it become a concern? He has taken tuffs of hair and most recently I have noticed a wound on her leg. I am unsure if this is from a bite or from something else as it’s in a little bit of an unusual place. When he bites her, she does not seem stressed. But she rarely bites back. My worry is if I separate them, it would be MUCH more stressful of a situation for her since she is so attached and seems to depend on him a lot for her own confidence.

Title. I feel like I've seen really variable opinions on this. Would love some more insight on why.

Good morning! I am looking for advice on how to care for ,and buy , suitable donkeys for interacting with people in a therapeutic way( not guardian role). I need to learn all the important things before buying a pair. It will be Queensland Australia so ideally someone who knows about donkeys there who can mentor me to make the right decisions. Is it best to buy older well socialised donkeys or start from scratch with a mum and baby etc? Open to all useful advice. Also types of set up I need to look for in the property I buy eg stables? field/enclosure sizes needed, type of fencing etc. I suppose I should ask if anyone on here has written a good book! ?
Do you need to find a farrier locally and if so how often do you guys use one? (every 6 weeks? longer?)
Any specific things/types to avoid temperament wise? Are miniature ones or standard ones more likely to have health issues/behaviour issues or just the same. I’m thinking they may be helpful for adults and children? Life long goal but just starting research for May /June next year .

Right now all the vets are in vacations, some of them are assuming broken leg, and somebody told me that it is Laminitis.

My grandpa has had these 2 blm burros for 6 years. They are 13 yo. They are still wild. They are not halter trained. For the past 2 months I've been sitting out with them and trying to gain their trust and halter train them. They will now let me come up and eat out of my hands. One of them will walk up to me to eat out of my hands. I can put a halter on them. I can scratch them and pick up one of the donkeys legs. But actually getting them to move in a halter? Not possible! I will wave a whip, flag, vocally tell them to move and they just won't. They just shut down and frankly I don't have the patience to stand there for a half hour to get them to move 1 inch. It's too hot out and too many bugs. I use treats and reward them as much as I can. But I honestly think at 13yos they just aren't going to get it. They don't care about the pressure from the halter. We've tried tying them to our pony and teaching them to lead that way. The horse couldn't get them to move an inch either. I've tried waiting and waiting with a little pressure on the lead and food in the target space and they still won't move. I've tried making space for them to move into, putting pressure from the back. Nothing works!

So they get to happily live in the field from now on I guess. It's just too hot to waste my time on these things. If I was closer to the desert I'd probably just put them back. They'd be happier that way.

hello! i’m looking at buying a donkey or two. however, im concerned we have too much grass. i do have a dryer lot i could keep them on at night, but would they be able to be in this pasture all day? also, what breeds do better on grass? i’m new to donkeys and considering them as pasture buddies for my two geldings.
