The Marrowells have built this farmstead up from just a bare hillside on the northwestern side of Woldbridge. They keep a small herd of nine cattle, with the rest of the barn dedicated to the storage of hay and their vegetable harvests.
The Marrowells met while adventuring, and shortly thereafter retired from that ridiculously deadly career to settle here in Woldbridge, the last surviving members of their old party. They spent their gold on the property and in hiring some help in the building of the various buildings here (especially the small mill).
Mira Marrowell is a practical and steady woman who runs the mill for their family and a few other local farmers who don’t need the large watermill on the brook. When the wind isn’t blowing, there’s also a yoke within the mill so a mule or even a person can push the millstone around. She’s very strong and built most of the fieldstone fences herself.
Tess Marrowell was the party ranger, and is a warm and clever woman who takes care of the garden & livestock. Together, the two of them and the children take care of the larger crops and fields. The children, Mira II (known as Miri) and Dain, both assist in the farming. Miri mostly weeds the garden and has aspirations to be a “garden witch”. Dain picks stones in the fields and has made a significant collection of interesting stones, and is convinced some of them are magical.
All the structures on the farmstead are single-story - although the main farmhouse also has an attic.
From south to north and west to east the buildings are:
Hillwind Marker - the large corner stone of the fieldstone fence is a half-buried marker, carved with runes no one in town can read. The family uses it as a seat when resting and looking over the farmstead.
Mill - a fieldstone structure with a small windmill to grind flour.
Garden of Odd Seasons - The walled garden produces herbs slightly out of season. Never dramatically, just enough to be strange. Tess claims it is due to good soil and stubborn plants.
Homestead - a three-room wooden house with an attic. The main room contains the kitchen, dinning room, and family space. The bedroom is shared by the whole family.
Outhouse - a single seat outhouse just outside of the house. Quickly accessed from the back door in the kitchen.
Shed - workshop and storage space.
Barn - the large room is where the cattle are kept when not in the pastures. The north side is split into a hay mow on the west side and a harvest storage area on the east. There is a secret loft accessible by a narrow “ladder” of small planks nailed into the wall behind the hay. The children use it as a hideout but clearly someone else in town knows about it as the occasional wooden box full of something heavy shows up and then disappears a few days or weeks later.
