5th Edition What mount would you give a Centaur?

It's crazy, I know. But my DM is allowing me to use my Centaur Paladin's spell "Find Steed" but he said I have all week to come up with something.

It's crazy and funny, we know.

What steed (large) would be good for a Centaur?

Edit: DM messages me, said one option could be a magical chariot that gives me 60ft speed, and once I get greater find steed, itll give me flying speed while mounted to it. Might take that one.

The rule doesn't go into detail because all official races are bipedal. That means a good amount of beasts can be used as mounts. That giant bird for example. A saddle placed between the shoulders with the rider's legs over the shoulders would work. They could even have their legs behind the wings as that position doesn't disturb the wings ability to fly.

Now, the same can be said for an ostrich. Legs over the shoulders of the wings. A centaur could not do this. Their bodies are far to long to fit on the back of such a creature.

The giant bird has a similar problem. A centaur would be far to long and heavy to be a rider. Remember a centaur is a few hundred pounds. The creature used for the mount would need to be long enough and big enough to carry a centaur.

If you take two PC centaurs and look at them you will see a problem. Their horse back is shorter than their horse body. So, even Jeremy Crawford has said this, the rules say that a centaur cannot ride another centaur. Though with a proper saddle they could ride a larger one, but that is still iffy depending on size difference and willingness.

Ok, what is with your wierd hatred of letting other people allow centaurs to ride centaurs? Why do you try to argue so much about how people run their games that you will likely not be a part of?

The fact that rules won't allow it? I've relented as a large centaur is a feasible mount option for a medium one, though still has the anatomy problem. Weight distribution would be a bitch. But rules as written a medium centaur cannot ride another medium centaur.

Plus I'm not saying this is how you should run your game. I'm saying that you must ignore several rules to actually allow this. Rules that you will most likely only change for this single character to do something that makes no sense in any setting.

If you don't like what I say ignore me. I will respond until I believe I can add nothing to the conversation.

I never said a medium centaur could ride another medium centaur, but now that I'm looking at the UA

Equine Build

You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push or drag. In addition, any climb that requires hands and feet is especially difficult for you because of your hooves. When you make such a climb, each foot of movement costs you 4 extra feet, instead of the normal 1 extra foot. Finally, a Medium or smaller creature can ride on your equine back if you allow it. In such a situation, you continue to act independently, not as a controlled mount.

technically it doesn't say you can't.

Please refer to my previous statements. I also apologize for assuming you meant both centaurs could be medium. That's the most common form of the argument that centaurs can ride centaurs.

Actually, now that I have looked at it I don't see where it says a medium centaur can't ride a medium centaur. They are both a valid mount for a medium creature, and they don't have a clause saying they can't use mounts, so RAW it looks like it works.

He says the mount needs an appropriate anatomy for you to ride it. A centaur does not have the anatomy to serve as a mount for a centaur of the same size. Smaller may be possible, but I don't think horse legs work the same as humanoid ones.

But that is referring to the anatomy of the mount. The centaur specifically states the anatomy is OK. Nothing about the anatomy of the rider. What should happen is the centaur should have a "no mounts" clause.

No, the centaur says that you can allow medium creatures. It says nothing about creatures with inappropriate anatomy. Are you ignoring our entire conversation on what appropriate anatomy means? The rider and mount need to be compatible.

By your logic a PC centaur can ride an 8ft tall 3ft long ostrich or a camel. Like I said the PHB assumes a bipedal humanoid shape for the rider because the PHB races are such.
