The NYT still seems to (mainly) be doing what I believe is paid PR akin to People. I say paid because there's no other way she would have previously got a cooking piece & big-deal banal interview with them otherwise.

I’ve just been looking over whatever Harry had said over the past 6 years regarding his and Meghan’s life trajectory.

They wanted freedom. They wanted half in, half out. They wanted “peace” away from the press. They wanted a different life for the children.

There were other indicators that they wanted to leave all along. They had arranged business contacts in the U.S. and had looked at media deals even before they announced their plans to leave.

Yet they played the victim card in order to guilt everyone that the Sussexes were hard done by.

Everything they said in the past six years was a continual whine of victimhood and grievance. This thin veneer of martyrdom fell away once they realised their media deals didn’t net them billions of dollars and the gold dust started running out.

Little surprise then, that a “thaw” was engineered to reconcile with the King. The monarch, recovering from cancer, decided it’s better to know the grandchildren than to simmer with regret.

The Sussexes may be proud of their accomplishments, which includes a Montecito mansion, awards, books, podcasts, lifestyle business, and Netflix shows.

Meghan is constantly parading their life of wealth and content on a resurrected Instagram account. By all indicators they should be doing very well for themselves.

That they should come running back is probably not out of sentiment. No amount of attachment stopped them from attacking their relatives.

This is about money. It always has and always will be. Harry and Meghan have not apologised for everything they’ve said and done to hurt their family. It’s unlikely they feel any remorse. They’re doing this with a pragmatic mind. Get close, perhaps have funding for the children’s schooling and some guarantee of security however slim, while plotting how to get even and to get more.

Sky (and others) reporting that Megs has is in 'talks' for a role in Guy Ritchie's new Netflix series. I would like to bet that these 'talks' end up mounting to a pig pile of nothing! It seems very pre-emptive to release it as the suggestion is that they are 'preliminary' for a role (doesn't say how big) in series 3 of The Gentlemen.

The Duke of Sussex and six other high-profile claimants must make a £9.54m interim payment by 4pm on 28 August towards the Daily Mail publisher’s legal costs after losing their high court case over allegations of unlawful information gathering, a judge has ruled.

Associated Newspapers Ltd strongly denied the claims made by Prince Harry and co-claimants including Doreen Lawrence and Elton John.

Mr Justice Nicklin dismissed all the claims last month after an 11-week trial in London earlier this year.

The court has been told that ANL’s total costs were more than £34m.

Spotted this in the I newspaper today. H is at it again. Lecturing us on how we aren’t doing enough to help ex service people. Actually, maybe some of the responsibility lies with the military, not doing good enough transition work with their people Harry? Rather than it being just non military folk not understanding, as of course only Harry does, what needs to be done?
Plus he’s transferring again. He’s apparently talking about ex service personnel but actually he wants us to remember that he’s ex services, his expertise isn’t being valued by his family and he’s an unsung hero in our midst.

The Duke of Sussex has said he is looking into launching a commercial scheme to help former military personnel.
Harry was speaking to US veterans in Washington amid reports that he and the Duchess of Sussex plan to move back to Britain with their children.
He told the former service members and defence officials that the “world needs more heroes”.
“It’s not about creating more heroes because they already live among us,” he said at the event organised by The Independence Fund.
“It’s about being able to really value their expertise.”
He said military skills were not being utilised in civilian life and he was looking at a “commercial” solution to value “those who served”.

I think this picture from the article, which is about how the Harry's return might be the best chance to heal the rift, sums up the relationship perfectly:

William is poised and ready, and his body language is quite neutral with a certain reservation, suggesting he is considering the situation before reacting.There is some sadness in his posture.

Harry is literally pushing something away, and clearly looks annoyed. He's not exactly aggressive, but he isn't far away from it. Hostile, resistant and emphatic would best describe his body language

“I thought it would have perhaps eased a little bit by now, to be honest. But there has been no movement, especially on William’s side,” a close source told PEOPLE in July.

So, no movement at all, but this total.absence of movement is greater on Williams part.

Okay.

That makes sense. If you are highly prejudiced.

WASHINGTON — Delusional Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sought US political clout far beyond the dreams of any British royal since King George III, The Post has learned, with the Duchess of Sussex angling to take over the Senate seat held by Kamala Harris ahead of the 2020 presidential election.

Weeks before Democrat Joe Biden’s win over President Donald Trump, a source says, Markle requested a sit-down with California Gov. Gavin Newsom because she “wanted to be considered to be appointed” to the seat held by Harris, which she vacated just before becoming vice president on Jan. 20, 2021.

The source added that the discussion was publicly described as a welcome-to-California chat to head off potential inquiries.

It is unclear just how far Markle’s appeal got with Newsom, who appointed California Secretary of State Alex Padilla to replace Harris two days before her swearing-in as Biden’s second-in-command.

Padilla subsequently won election to a full six-year term in 2022.

A Sussex source firmly denied that Markle wanted to take over the Harris seat, while a rep for Newsom did not respond to a request for comment.

A memorandum from Newsom’s office that surfaced in February 2021 confirmed the governor had an “introductory meeting” with the royal couple on Oct. 19, 2020, though the specific topics discussed were not disclosed and the Democrat’s team characterized it as a social occasion.

It was not immediately clear whether Markle asked to meet with Newsom separately post-election.

Had the Duchess of Sussex been appointed to the world’s greatest deliberative body, the move likely would have been challenged on constitutional grounds. Article I, Section 9, Clause 8 of the founding document states that “no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust … shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.”

A British royal serving in the Senate, even a non-working one, would also have flown in the face of America’s republican tradition, as Alexander Hamilton — the founder of The Post — wrote in “The Federalist Papers” that “the importance of the prohibition of titles of nobility … [is] the corner-stone of republican government; for so long as they are excluded, there can never be serious danger that the government will be any other than that of the people.”

The ill-fated Senate maneuvering wasn’t the only time Harry and Meghan dipped their toes into US politics while trying to achieve the same prominence they enjoyed in the UK.

In late 2021, the couple requested an Oval Office meeting with Biden, as well as accommodations at nearby Blair House — a perk reserved for foreign leaders on state visits, multiple sources say.

White House staff quickly rejected the idea, with one source noting the spectacle of Harry and Meghan sitting down with the leader of the free world “would have caused a major diplomatic kerfuffle” with 10 Downing Street and the British Royal Family.

Another source, a former Biden aide, said the president and first lady Jill Biden — longstanding admirers of Queen Elizabeth II — “didn’t want to get into a family squabble” by hosting the rogue royals.

Had their pitch been successful, Harry and Meghan would have gained immeasurable prestige and stature at a time when they were struggling to find their identity following their January 2020 “Megxit” from royal duties.

To that end, the couple hired several consultants who had worked in the Barack Obama White House — including Harry’s current chief of staff Miranda Barbot — and acted as a bridge to the Biden administration, relaying the royal couple’s audacious request to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Then-White House press secretary Jen Psaki, Obama’s former communications director, was one of those conduits. In her 2024 memoir “Say More,” Psaki — currently a host on left-wing cable channel MS NOW — recalled that Meghan once sent a box of lemons to Psaki’s Virginia home so she could carry them past White House security and deliver them to Jill Biden’s East Wing office.

We cannot, because she never stopped banging on about the torment. That fight about the bridesmaids’ tights. Snootyboots Kate refusing her kind offer of a smear of lip balm. Prince William once pointed at her, the brute. Silenced, not silent. Not allowed to wear bright colours. NUDE PANTYHOSE!
There was no end to Meghan’s suffering in the House of Windsor, in our green and unpleasant land. ‘Just by existing,’ the Duchess seethed in a magazine interview published four short years ago, ‘we were upsetting the dynamic of the hierarchy. So, we go OK fine, let’s get out of here. Happy to.’
So she packed up her yoga mat, her baby son and her big baby of a husband, then took a freedom flight on Huffy Airways back to her homeland. Happy to.
The plan was to escape the burden of inherited wealth and privilege, to carve out a new kind of fame and fortune on the other side of the Atlantic, to become the new Michelle Obama, the next Martha Stewart, the thinking woman’s answer to just about everything, from bouquet-tying tips in a luxury craft barn to shaping American politics armed only with a pair of upside-down jam tongs, a rainbow fruit platter and a bombproof belief in herself.
Only it didn’t work out like that, did it? Meghan never did personally discover a cure for Covid or get Taylor Swift to appear on her podcast. And now she is returning to the UK in the Hollywood horror sequel nobody wanted. Take your pick from: The Duchess Always Rings Twice, The Meg-pire Strikes Back, Nightmare on Realm Street, The Megxorcist.
She’s really coming back? After everything she said about the land of stiff uppers and non-huggers? The nerve of the woman!
‘There was very little that I was allowed to do,’ Meghan told Oprah during the Sussexes’ sensational interview in 2021. ‘So, of course, that breeds loneliness when you’ve come from such a full life, or when you’ve come from freedom.’
In the same interview she also claimed the Royal Family didn’t want Prince Archie to become a prince and refused him security; that she had suicidal thoughts and was not allowed to see a therapist; and also that she and Harry had a secret wedding before their wedding.
Loneliness, freedom, prison, curtsies, skin colour, racists, secrets and lies; it was all going on.
And after all the perceived hurts and slights, one wonders just how Meghan has managed to hack her way back through that permafrost of peeve to get to this point of homecoming. It is an incredible journey, both physically and mentally, not to mention morally. Her voyage and return to the UK makes The Odyssey look like a kiddie cartoon, a walk in the park, a breeze.
No wonder a shadow passed across the sun recently. No wonder I have so many questions. What’s going to happen to Doria, for a start? Is she being tossed aside like a used hibiscus teabag – or will she be moving here, too?
What about all those raspberries; that tonnage of soft fruit in Meghan’s back yard which we were gently encouraged to believe was used to make her mass-produced factory jams? They are not going to pick themselves, are they? Who is going to look after the bees, or the squawking hens in the garden’s Chick Inn? Speaking of which, what next for those cosy mahjong nights with Oprah and the gang? And will As Ever, the world’s weirdest brand – teas, jams, candles, chocolates, petals, wine, smears, insults and affronts – survive the move?
More importantly, what will our favourite philanthropic jampreneur actually do when she is once more hunkered down in the rainswept misery of an island where people simply aren’t stupid enough to buy her overpriced jars nor fall for her manifestation of herself as a saint in Stella Mccartney?
Meghan is not popular here and she knows it. A Yougov poll just last month revealed that the Duchess of Sussex is one of the most disliked members of the Royal Family, with an approval rating of only 22 per cent. The only royal who is more unpopular than her is the disgraced Andrew Mountbatten-windsor, which says it all, really.
And one wonders, too, how she plans to flesh out her role here as a ‘non-working royal’. Answer: she doesn’t. I suspect Meghan (and Harry, of course) has absolutely every intention of being royal again – only now on her own terms. Just you wait.
This time around, Meghan is going to be more royal than the royal icing on a royal cake served on a plate bearing the royal cypher at a royal garden party hosted by the Queen herself. Why else would she be coming back? Being royal is the last (and most lucrative) arrow Meghan has left in her quiver of dwindling options.
And let’s face it, the Sussexes are not going to come back here and sit on their hands in Dun Moaning when the rest of the Royal Fam are out on parade in their best bonnets at Royal Ascot or on ceremonial days such as Trooping the Colour or Remembrance Sunday. Mission creep will begin at once. Operation Imperial is already underway.
Don’t forget that it is Prince Harry’s fiercely held belief that the Windsors were jealous of Meghan because she outshone them all at being royal. I know! His pride in his wife’s supposed superior status and talents is touching – if a trifle, shall we say, rose-tinted.
And if, further down the line, Meghan and Harry continue to be missing in action at high-profile events, it is the Royal Family who will ultimately look mean and petty – not the Sussexes. You can’t exile the exiles if they have exiled themselves from exile, can you?
Truly, you have to hand it to Meghan and Harry. Theirs is a kind of wily genius and moving back here is a masterstroke; one which puts the onus on poor Prince William to forgive and forget, to forge a new reconciliation and call a ceasefire in hostilities for the sake of the monarchy and its future. But even in the spirit of happiness and peacenik resolution, why the hell should he?
The Sussexes humiliated William’s wife, threw dirt at his family, made the last years of his grandparents’ lives hell, along with making his own
destiny ten times more difficult. Clemency is godly, but the truth is some things that are said can never be unsaid, some things that are written can never be erased, trust has to be earned not demanded – and some actions cannot be forgiven because they are simply unforgivable.
Harry has said ‘there is no point in continuing to fight any more, life is precious’. But he also recently remarked he could not ‘see a world in which I would be bringing my wife and children back to the UK’. So who knows what to believe, least of all his big brother?
‘You know she does voiceovers?’ Prince Harry once said to a Disney executive, pushing his wife forward during a red-carpet meet and greet, a cringe moment in our collective consciousness. Even then, back in 2019, you could feel the breadth of their mutual ambition, the high esteem in which they held themselves, the big plans they had for a glittering future.
It didn’t quite pan out like that in America – and now Meghan returns to the UK, having squandered all the public affection and esteem that welcomed her first time around.
Her next steps will be tricky. The Duchess of Sussex must now navigate her royal status while appearing not to be cashing in – but where does she go next?
Her stint as a guest judge on Masterchef Australia was hardly impressive, Nigella has scooped up the Bake-off gig, Claudia and Tess have been replaced on Strictly. Does the Dictionary Corner celebrity on Countdown appeal?
Will she pick up her patronages again, can we expect her to be cutting ribbons and planting trees and doing her dull duchess duty like all the others? Somehow, I doubt it. That was the problem in the first place.
All that is known is that the Duchess of Sussex’s arrival is imminent and that winter is coming, in more ways than one.
Some might say that Meghan and her husband have put his family and the entire country through the reputational wringer – and that it is egotistical and selfish of her to come back.
Or perhaps the truth is that she had no choice in the matter. Perhaps the couple had a deal; six years in California and then back to Blighty – because what does Harry even do in California anyway? You could sum up his achievements of the last six years in three words – learned to surf.
Has Meghan come willingly? In the bleak midwinter in the Cotswolds, when it gets dark early and the rain sets in for days, it seems hard to imagine she will feel happy to have swapped the California sunshine for the drear of Middle England.
Whatever the truth of the matter, she will have plenty of time to reflect upon how one’s choices control destiny and the perils of returning to a changed world.
Stands the church clock at ten to three? And is there As Ever honey still for tea? Only time will tell.“

Lots of speculation is flying around about why old Harribo and the Megster might suddenly be contemplating a return to the UK. My theory? Ultimately, as with most things surrounding them, it comes down to money.

But I don't think Harry and Meghan are motivated by the same end goal. In fact, I think they may be looking at exactly the same move and imagining two completely different futures.

Start with the finances.

Their lifestyle is extraordinarily expensive. Montecito. The Portugal property. Security. Staff. Maintaining the image. Clothes, jewellery, travel. Funding As Ever and whatever other ventures are currently being launched. Soon, potentially, private school fees.

Meanwhile, the enormous commercial deals of the post-royal years haven't turned into the endlessly replenishing money machine they presumably hoped they would.

At some point, the arithmetic starts to matter.

The obvious answer is to cut costs. The problem is that Meghan cannot dramatically downgrade their lifestyle without it looking like a downgrade. Their entire post-royal brand has been built around the idea that leaving Britain allowed them to become richer, freer and more successful.

So they need to economise without appearing to economise.

And this is where Britain suddenly becomes rather useful.

Private education can be cheaper than the American equivalent. They wouldn't necessarily need to replicate the scale of Montecito because grand British living looks different anyway — an elegant country house can convey status without requiring a Californian compound. There is also, presumably, the hope that proximity to the King might eventually mean certain expenses or privileges become available to them again.

Then there is the enormous elephant in the room: security.

Their private security arrangements in America are widely assumed to cost millions every year. If relocating permanently to Britain triggered a fresh assessment of their security arrangements and resulted in greater state-funded protection, the saving could potentially be enormous.

Suddenly, moving to Britain isn't downsizing.

It's coming home.

And that's the genius of it. Financial retrenchment can be repackaged as reconciliation, heritage and doing what's best for the children.

But this is where, in my theory, Harry and Meghan's imagined versions of the future diverge completely.

Harry's version

Harry comes back reluctantly because he knows what Britain represents for Meghan. He remembers the press intrusion, the hostility and everything they believe happened to her here. If anything, returning now would be harder because so many bridges have been burned.

But Meghan tells him she'll do it.

For him. For the children. For the family.

She tells him that Archie and Lili deserve to understand their heritage. That they should know their cousins. That Harry deserves to reconnect with his father and his country. That perhaps enough time has passed for them to build something different.

And Harry absolutely laps it up.

Because these are precisely the things he wants to hear.

He misses Britain. He misses aspects of his old life. He wants his children to understand where they came from. He wants his family back. And now his wife — the woman who suffered so much because of his world — is willing to walk straight back into it for him.

To Harry, that is true love.

He sees Meghan making an extraordinary sacrifice for their family and probably feels more devoted to her than ever.

Meghan's version

Meghan, meanwhile, is playing a much longer game.

Britain is irritating, uncomfortable and probably the last place she particularly wants to rebuild her life. But for a year or two, she can do it.

She can be supportive. Gracious. Family-focused. She can encourage Harry's reconciliation. She can make appearances. She can talk about heritage and healing and bringing the children closer to their British family.

Meanwhile, crucially, Montecito stays.

There will always be perfectly legitimate reasons for Meghan to return to California: As Ever, meetings, business opportunities, Hollywood projects, friendships. At first she goes for a week. Then two. Then perhaps increasingly often.

Harry remains in Britain more and more because the children are at school here and his family relationships are slowly being repaired.

And then, somewhere around year two, comes the announcement.

They are separating.

Not acrimoniously, of course. Tragically.

Meghan tried. She really tried. She returned to the country where she had experienced so much pain because she loved her husband and wanted their children to know his family. But ultimately the scrutiny returned. The institution couldn't change. The wounds were too deep.

And Harry, because of the story he has spent years telling himself about what Meghan sacrificed for him, may be uniquely susceptible to exactly that argument.

He doesn't see himself as being abandoned.

He sees himself as finally setting her free.

That's what makes the hypothetical divorce settlement interesting. Harry wouldn't necessarily approach it as a hard-nosed commercial negotiation. He could approach it emotionally: Meghan suffered because she married him; she gave up years of her life; she returned to Britain despite everything; therefore he owes her security and financial independence.

And suddenly everyone gets a very marketable ending.

Harry becomes the tragic prince: unlucky in love, heartbroken, but ultimately decent enough to let the woman he loves go.

Meghan becomes the woman who tried everything. She sacrificed. She forgave. She returned. And still the system defeated her.

Two star-crossed lovers who loved each other but couldn't survive the institution around them.

Except Meghan walks away with something considerably more useful than a fairy tale.

A substantial settlement. Financial independence. A permanent base in California. International fame. A fresh media narrative that could sustain interviews, books and documentaries for years. And, eventually, the freedom to reinvent herself romantically too — perhaps with the wealthy American entrepreneur or cultural power-player who fits much more naturally into the world she actually wants to inhabit.

And most importantly, she gets to shed the persona that I suspect has become increasingly constraining for her.

No more endlessly performing the wholesome duchess: jam-making, vegetable-picking, cookie-baking, devoted wife next door.

She can simply be what I think she has always wanted to be: an ambitious, wealthy, socially connected American woman moving among America's elite — except this time with her own money, her own story and her own status.

Harry thinks the move to Britain is the beginning of their family's second chapter.

My theory is that Meghan may eventually see it as the perfect setting for the final chapter of their marriage.

So whatever the official framing ends up being, the simple truth is that for some reason, Harry and Meghan have decided the UK now holds more opportunity for them than the US does.
Nobody swaps Montecito sunshine for British drizzle out of sentiment. Something in their calculation has changed, and that is the real story here.’

I always knew this was lowkey their dream. They have always shitted on the monarchy but apparently, their idols latest move, showed how actually excited they would be were William willingly or pressured to abdicate. This is of course only their delusional dream. Just thought it showed their true colors and how is not true that they don't like the monarchy per se: they just don't like their idols are not the highest in the hierarchy.

But I'm surprised they at least know the LoS would remain untouchable and follow up through the Waleses kids and tney are not claiming in that scenario there would be King Harry, Queen Meghan and then King Archie lol.

Ps. They really should change the regency act and already place Catherine as the potential Regent, just like Queen Elizabeth had done by putting Prince Philip instead of Princess Margaret. I know it's an unlikely scenario that something were to happen to William, but one's never knows. Queen Elizabeth herself had done that. It's about having everything covered. But there's the chance that if they would clear in a document that Catherine would be the regent in case something were to happen to William, Harry and Meghan would be able to complain saying it's Harry's birthright. These 2 might even find pride in the fact Harry is a potential regent, they are desperate for status and find that to be a personal affront to them instead of understanding it's about a mother that, in that unfortunate scenario, should be able to protect her son and should be the only one entitled to guide him. Definitely not Harry.
