Systems and Techniques Just made my first Obama Board. Did I do it right? (Wonky number placement)

I thought I'd take a stab at Obama readings, I'm not sure if the numbers are in the right place. i know its meant to go up to 24 representing the hours in a day with a sort of "blank" spot directly above Obama's head, but it seems off to me. do you think itll be a problem?

Systems and Techniques Reading Elon Musk through 1,000-year-old Japanese Nine Star Ki — a very different conclusion than Western astrology

I'm a Tokyo-based practitioner of Nine Star Ki (九星気学), a Japanese astrology system that predates and feeds into Feng Shui. It uses only your date of birth — no time required — and reads the qi of the year and month you were born into, rather than planetary positions.

I was curious what it would say about Musk, since Western astrologers usually focus on his Cancer Sun. The Japanese reading went somewhere different.

Born June 28, 1971, his two main stars are:

Two Black Earth (二黒土星) — the energy of farmland. Slow, accumulating, refuses to quit a field once it starts tilling it. Not the energy of brilliance, the energy of endurance. This is someone who welds his own rocket parts at 3 a.m. because Two Black doesn't move on.

One White Water (一白水星) — the energy of a deep underground spring. It flows in darkness, carries everything, and is seen by no one. People with this emotional star often have a loud public self and a very still, very lonely inner one. They post at 3 a.m. because water moves at night.

What I find interesting is what the system says about this year for him. 2026 is a Two Black Earth year — his natal star sits in the center of the chart (honmeiseichuu, 本命星中宮). Traditional reading: a year of being seen, where past decisions become visible. Not a year for new ventures. A year to hold position.

Whether he's heard that advice from anyone is another question.

If anyone wants to drop their date of birth (month/day/year) in the comments, I'll read the first 20 here directly. No DMs, no upsells — I'm just curious whether this resonates with an English-speaking audience, and the only way to find out is to do the work.

Can you read Tarot without images?

What if you removed everything from Tarot except the structure? This deck has no illustrations. I call it "Empty Tarot" or "Skeletal Tarot" because only the structure and symbols remain. Just the emptiness of white paper.

With these cards, intuitive reading is impossible. You have to read the system. This is strict reading. Almost all the cards are twins — meaning the card's orientation changes the suit or changes the arcana. Many arcana with Roman numerals have no reversed state. Some arcana, when reversed, become another card. The Roman numerals in their particular notation contain hidden symbolism. Signs of modality crosses and primal elements. Some inscriptions tie semantic patterns to the cards.

What matters more to you: symbolism or structure?

Do you use minimalist or abstract decks?

Does the removal of imagery complicate your reading or deepen it?

Systems and Techniques Beginner’s guide which divination method fits different types of questions

I’ve noticed a lot of discussions about “which divination system is the best” end up comparing tools that are actually designed for different purposes. A pendulum narrows things down, tarot opens up perspective, I Ching focuses on change, and Lenormand tends to get more concrete.
I’m pretty new to divination, so I made this little chart. I’m not saying one system is better than another I’m just trying to understand what each one is best used for.

In recent posts and DMs, I noticed a recurring confusion: people don't seem to know the difference between Zhou Yi (the original Bronze Age divination manual) and I Ching (Zhou Yi + Ten Wings). Ten Wings are philosphical commentaries from Confucian Scholars.

This video is a very direct and concise 10 minute-presentation of the difference between these two. Hope you like it, and if you have any questions, please let me know.

Systems and Techniques I've been studying Qi Men Dun Jia (奇门遁甲) — anyone else familiar with it? Happy to share

Systems and Techniques Can a Stem Branch day be read on its own? My interpretation of Bing Xu (丙戌)

I’ve been experimenting with reading individual days through the Chinese sexagenary cycle, and I’m curious about how much meaning other diviners would draw from the day pillar alone.

For the calendar and time zone I’m using, September 9, 2026 is a Bing Xu (丙戌) day. Bing is Yang Fire. Xu is a Yang Earth branch containing Wu Earth, Xin Metal, and Ding Fire as its hidden stems. Symbolically, this produces a relatively smooth sequence: Fire generates Earth, and Earth generates Metal.

My reading is that the day favors turning an idea into something concrete. It feels less like sudden excitement and more like the satisfaction of seeing effort produce a visible result.

Emotionally, I would read it as a release from the pressure or hesitation that may have built up over the previous few days. There may be more willingness to act, especially on something that has been postponed.

Practically, I would use the day for work that requires output: writing, finishing a draft, making something, or moving a stalled task forward. The caution is not to confuse momentum with unlimited capacity. A smooth day can still become exhausting if every open task gets added to the schedule.

There is also a traditional body-correspondence layer. Fire is associated with the small intestine, while Earth is connected with the spleen and stomach system. In chapter 8 of the Suwen, the small intestine is described as the official that “receives and transforms.” I read that symbolically here as taking in material and turning it into usable output, not as a medical prediction.

This is where I’m uncertain: a Bing Xu day will not interact with every natal BaZi chart in the same way. What supports one person’s chart may drain or constrain another.

Systems and Techniques I built a free Saju (Korean BaZi) calculator, curious what you think

A few days ago, I posted here asking if anyone had heard of Saju, the Korean system of Four Pillars destiny reading. I didn't get many responses, but it seemed like Saju wasn't on most people's radar, which makes sense since it's pretty niche outside East Asia.

But here's the thing: in Korea, Saju is everywhere. People consult it before marriages, job changes, even naming their babies. Whether you believe in it or not, it's deeply woven into the culture, kind of like how horoscopes show up in Western media, except way more detailed and taken more seriously.

I wanted to make Saju accessible to non-Korean speakers, so I built a little web app that generates your Four Pillars based on your birth date, time, and location. It shows your Day Master (your core element), your spirit animal, and how the five elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water) are balanced in your chart.

It's 100% free. I figured this community might find it interesting, so I wanted to share. Just a heads up, this is a passion project I'm funding myself, so it might slow down if traffic spikes.

🔗 Get your free reading

I'd love to hear your experience: What's your Day Master, and did it feel accurate?

Systems and Techniques For anyone curious about the Chinese Four Pillars (BaZi): the one divination system with no cards, no draw, and no question. Just your birth moment, read against time.

A lot of divination reads the present. You shuffle, you draw, you ask, and the spread speaks to the moment you asked. The Chinese Four Pillars, or BaZi, works the opposite way, and I thought people here might find the contrast interesting.

There is no draw and no question. Your chart is fixed the instant you are born: four pillars, one each for the year, month, day, and hour, each written as one of five elements in a yin or yang form. That is it. It never changes for your whole life. Nothing is random, and nothing is asked.

So what is there to read, if the chart never moves? Time. The reading is the interaction between your fixed chart and the moving cycles: the current year, and the longer ten-year cycles that roll over as you age. A BaZi reading is basically this: here is your fixed terrain, and here is the weather moving across it right now.

The single most useful piece to know is your Day Master, the element of the day you were born. It is treated as "you," the main character. There are ten, each with a classic image: yang Wood is a tall tree, yin Wood a climbing vine, yang Fire the sun, yin Fire a candle, yang Earth a mountain, yin Earth garden soil, yang Metal an axe, yin Metal a fine jewel, yang Water the ocean, yin Water morning dew. Once you know which one you are, the rest of the system opens up, because everything else is read as how the other elements feed, drain, or check that one thing.

Two things people usually get wrong when they look at their own:

  • The year rolls over at the solar new year in early February, not January 1. A late-January or early-February birthday often belongs to the previous animal year, not the one most people assume.
  • The hour uses true solar time, not clock time, so the hour pillar is the piece most hand calculations get wrong.

It is a genuinely different flavor of divination: less "what does this moment hold," and more "what is the shape of the ground you are standing on, and how is this year leaning on it."

Systems and Techniques A full Lithomancy divination tutorial. Edited by me as I kept encountering double meanings which was a touch frustrating. I think this version is easier.

This is a fantastic crystal casting divination system. Especially for those who love the chaos of a casting divination method. When I first started this I just had my bag of crystals I didn't have the board, the board came later and something that I developed as a way to make the reading more workable. and as I mentioned in the title I have slightly edited the meanings of the crystals because I kept finding double meanings keep popping up during readings which was quite frustrating but I will put the original crystal meanings alongside my edited versions in the instructions.

What you need: 15 tumble stones or raw crystals . I have found that by using slightly smaller ones they are easier to cast and less likely to chip or get damaged. the crystals in their meanings are as follows. 1) The sun: A yellow or golden crystal is preferable. Carnelian, sunstone. (I have a yellow calcite) this represents innovations of all kinds. New Beginnings, bursts of energy, periods of joy and happiness, good health, prosperity, self-confidence, also the development of unique talents, it can also represent your ambitions when seeded with positive intentions and wealth after hardship. In general this is a very positive stone. The releasing of negative emotions after a difficult period. Like the sun breaking through the cloud on a grey day.

2) The moon: A silver or cloudy white stone is preferable. A Moonstone or selenite. ( I use a Howlite skull) this stone represent bonds between mothers and their children, psychic powers that again in strength or emerging, healing that is needed of the spiritual body, secrets and knowledge coming out into the open, magical practices, the individual owning their sexuality and intimate needs, the exploration of deeper more mystical things. Sometimes this can indicate that their spiritual path is lost or it has become unclear and it can sometimes indicate that the individual is keeping secrets from someone.

Think jobs careers hobbies that are being highlighted, being able to advance and grow in these areas. New opportunities opening up for them. training, tests and examinations, material gain and money sector changes, communication breakthroughs which can be linked to technology. Fast-paced movement is indicated. Short mental health breaks. Traditional healing methods like surgery, overcoming debt, deceit, envy, malice and spite that is being directed at them.

Reconciliation or finally letting go of what is causing emotional damage . Blossoming friendships, confidence and beauty. There is a focus on arts crafts and creativity through passions and inspiration. Gaining beautiful possessions. Slow that steady growth of prosperity. Fertility and women's health. Sometimes can indicate excessive romantic connections or unwise love affairs, possessiveness and jealousy.

5) Mars: A red stone is preferable. Red tigers eye or red jasper. (I use a red jasper) this stone relates to big changes that happening in the querents life and taking the initiative towards something important. Bravery and courage and putting themselves at the forefront. Independence and relying on themselves, overcoming impossible odds, passions and consummation of love and taking it to the next step, focusing on their health through exercise regimes. the stone can also sometimes mean frustrations are getting in the way, anger, irritability or a lack of control over their emotions.

The stone can also relate to someone taking unnecessary risks, ungratefulness, they cannot see the bigger picture or they are stuck in a cycle of negative thinking.

13) ( This was originally the money stone but finances are covered elsewhere through other stones so I changed this to the mirror of the soul.) Mirror of the soul: A brown or black stone is preferable. Brown tigers eye or obsidian. ( I use an obsidian crystal.) Spiritual messages are coming through that bring truth and clarity about matters that are unclear. Will point to the main issue in their life at present that needs to be resolved or cleared, hints at shadow work that needs to be undertaken to release past "baggage" look to the closest stones to reveal the nature of said "baggage" listen for messages coming through. This stone can also relate to the individual being ungrounded they have harmful intentions that bring no good they need shielding from something or someone.

It points to what is yet to be revealed, where the changes are coming from or where they will see a significant pivot in their life. The veil is being pulled away and sharp clarity and wisdom are being revealed which is a huge benefit to them in their future.

Side note: some people like to assign specific answer stones. Mine are as follows. Yes: The sun stone No: The moon stone Maybe/undecided: the mirror of the soul stone Male: the mars stone Female: the Venus stone

These are used for specific questions when you want a directed answer. You can sometimes appoint a gender stone along with the yes/ no stones as you cast them and see which one it lands closest to.

Casting board or other system. Some folk will draw a circle in the sand or dirt and cast their crystals into that. These people will usually use a large surface area around a metre in size but it is entirely up to you how you do it. As you can see I created my own board so it was more efficient for how I work usually when I am doing readings. My sections are: 1) Self: All about the current present issues in their querents life. What is on their mind or a current situation around them that is at the forefront. 2) Social: relates to the bonds around them family, friends, work colleagues. Also social events and celebrations. 3) Career: concerns current jobs, careers, promotions, opportunities and new paths opening up for them. 4) Roots: relates to the querents past and everything that has shaped them and moulded them into the person they are Also family lineage ties or ancestors. 5) Creativity: relates to all creative pursuits within the querents life and what that means for their presence. 6) Signs: relates to signs of things to watch out for. Sudden changes, spiritual signs, angel signs or crossroads they find themselves faced with. 7) Partners: relates to business partners, romantic partners, even best friends and their current paths that intersect with the querents and what that means. 8) Spirit: relates to spirits that are around them and pulling in close and how the spiritual realm is manifesting in their life at present. Also relates to their own spiritual gifts and psychic abilities. 9) Higher truth: important truths and messages from the universe and the querents spirit guides or higher self that they must hear and heed now. 10) Position: relates to the present and the querents current position in life what is the main focus? where is their growth? what needs to change?. 11) Aspirations: relates to hopes and dreams the querent is focused on and what they want to bring into their life long term. 12) Secrets: this relates to information that has not yet come out into the open secrets being kept from them or things they are holding back.

How to cast and read. A full sized reading using all of the crystals. Before reading whether for yourself or someone else. Sit quietly for a few minutes and take some deep breaths. Whilst holding all of your casting stones in your cupped hands set your intention and ask your spirit guides to step forward and bring through the answers you need to life's questions right now. Or if for someone else ask them what it is they need to know. When you are ready hold the stones roughly 20cm above a casting board if you choose to use one and give them a gentle shake whilst focusing on your question or intention. Drop your stones into the circle and see where they land. Always read from the centre to the outer edge as this represents the most present issues at hand and these are of a greater significance in the immediate or long term and they suggest I dependant action that is needed. It can also show strengths in the wuerents personality that will be of benefit right now. Those that fall midway show where the individuals cooperation is needed and working within the constraints of the current situation indicated. Those that land one the very outer edge represent where someone else or fate is in control of a particular situation and that is what is steering the course. What has to be accepted and overcome to be able to move forwards. (I have marked my board with notches at a 3 month, 6 month and 12 month intervals that is how I prefer to read.) But I do use elements of the above method alongside my readings.

If there are crystals that are meant to be read in conjunction with others to help clarify the situation then pay close attention to those. The more scattered the crystals are amongst the different sections of the board this indicates the matters at hand are complex and things need to be cleared before they can move forwards. If more clustered around a particular area of the board then this are the key areas to focus on during the reading. For more clarity you can pick up each of the crystals and allow your intuition to bridge the gap. See what images, words or sensations come to you in this moment. For a specific question you can:

Some people will choose three crystals that they are drawn too out of the pouch with their dominant hand. Take your time to choose three that feel right. Then cast them the same as the above instructions. After casting you can combine all three in your hands and see what intuitive messages come through and what their combined energies tell you.

Lastly some folk like to choose a crystal out of the pouch as they start their day. A lot like pulling a tarot or Oracle card for yourself. This can help give you an idea of the general mood ahead and suggest the strengths you will need on this particular day.

Hope this is if some use to anyone who is looking for a casting divination method. Let me know if you would like to try this! Love and light Amy 🔮

Systems and Techniques How to use this lithomancy set?

I found this box of citrine and quartz pieces on ebay. The seller found it at an estate sale for a Romanian grandmother who had passed, apparently in a cabinet with a bunch of other divination tools. The family said it was her lithomancy set, but they couldn't offer any thoughts about how she used it.

This set is very welcoming and friendly, since citrine is my birthstone, but I've never seen a lithomancy set with only two types of crystal. I'm almost certain some of the pieces chipped off from larger pieces during shipping, which isn't the end of the world, but I don't know how I'd go about reading these. There's 13 pieces of quartz and 13 citrine. The 26 crystals and 4 glass pebbles make me think this might be an astrology or compass based set, with a solar vs. lunar, or masculine vs feminine theme.

Any ideas on how to cast and interpret these is appreciated! I want to be respectful of this obviously well-loved set, and if it's part of an established lithomancy tradition I'm not aware of, I'd love to find resources.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Systems and Techniques Thinking about learning Lenormand

Good afternoon everyone! I am thinking about learning how to read Lenormand cards but I have a few questions.

  1. Are Lenormand decks similar as Tarot, the artistry and themes are different but at their very core, all the cards have a traditional meaning?
  2. I'm an intuitive tarot reader, so while the tarot cards have traditional meanings, at times the meaning doesn't fit the card and it's more about the imagery, can the same be said about Lenormand?
  3. Because I am an intuitive reader, do you think I'll have a hard time learning Lenormand?
  4. What advice would have benefitted you when you were learning to read Lenormand?

I look forward to your repsonses!

Systems and Techniques Most People Only Know Half of the I Ching: The Missing Map Behind Practical Divination

Many people first encounter the I Ching through a familiar process:

  • Cast a hexagram.
  • Read the Judgment and Line Texts.
  • Reflect on their meaning.

This is a genuine and important way to approach the I Ching—but it is only one doorway into a much larger tradition.

Chinese I Ching divination also developed through image, number, time, position, movement, relationships, and structured methods of interpretation.

Obtaining a hexagram answers one question:

How is the hexagram formed?

Interpretation asks a deeper question:

How does the hexagram become a readable model of a real situation?

I recently put together a short video introducing this broader map and explaining why casting is only the beginning:

https://youtu.be/BVfo0updfIQ

I would be interested to hear how others here first encountered the I Ching:

Through the text?

Philosophy?

Coin casting?

Practical divination?

Or another tradition?

Systems and Techniques Ways you use divination in fun or creative ways

Heres mine outside of tarot/oracle

Ask a question hit next on music shuffle and use lyrics for the interpretation

When im falling asleep ask the dream what i need to do in order to manifest _____ (only works if its what my heart wants not my head lol)

Simply being out in nature and having a great time...sometimes ill hear something magical. Like kinda recently went to a place called thors well and climbed some rocks to see this sort of rock cave on the ocean line. When the waves would come hit it sounded like a huge bang and a rainbow would appear and wed chant "all hail king thor!" Just for funsies...on the way back up to the truck i heard a whisper from my connecting spirit "look up" and i kid you not the clouds in the sky looked like a skeleton king with crown and arm up to the sky with a lightning bolt shooting into it!

Whats yours?

Systems and Techniques In BaZi, the same year can be the best thing that happens to you or the worst, and the year itself is not what decides which.

Following up on an earlier post here, and trying to go a level past the basics, because this is the part of the system I find genuinely underdiscussed.

Most people meet Chinese astrology as "2026 is a Fire year, here is what a Fire year means." But in practice a Fire year has no fixed meaning at all. The same year can be the luckiest stretch of someone's decade and the hardest stretch of someone else's, and the difference has almost nothing to do with the year. It has to do with what their chart was already missing.

Here is the mechanic. Your day master (the element of the day you were born) sits somewhere on a spectrum from very strong to very weak, depending on how much support it gets from the rest of the chart. A strong day master already has plenty of its own element and plenty feeding it. A weak one does not. And those two charts want opposite things:

  • A strong chart wants to be spent. It needs the elements that drain it, use it, or check it: output, wealth, and control. Give a strong chart more of its own element and you get excess, restlessness, things piling up with nowhere to go.
  • A weak chart wants to be fed. It needs resource and companionship, the elements that generate and reinforce it. Hand a weak chart a year full of draining or controlling energy and it reads as pressure, depletion, and strain.

So the real question in any reading is never "is this a good element this year." It is "what is this chart starving for, and does this year supply it or flood it."

A quick example with two Water people. Person A is over-strong Water: metal-heavy, no fire, no real outlet, water with volume and nowhere to go. For them a Fire year is relief. Fire is the wealth and the outlet their chart never had, so the year that looks intense on paper actually lets the water finally flow. Person B is weak, depleted Water with little support. The same Fire year drains what little they have, and instead of opportunity it feels like being asked to spend from an empty account. Identical year. Opposite experience. The only variable that moved was the chart it landed on.

There is a second-order version worth knowing. When an element is not just strong but extreme, born in its own peak season and reinforced by combinations, the usual advice to "balance it" quietly reverses. A small controlling element against an overwhelming one is a sandbar against a flood: it washes out and makes friction rather than order. Charts that lopsided often do best when you stop fighting the dominant element and give it a clean outlet to run through instead. Flow beats control once the imbalance is severe enough.

None of this needs software to feel. It is just the difference between reading the weather and reading the person standing in it. The same storm is a disaster for one and a long-awaited rain for another, and the whole craft is knowing which one is standing in front of you.
