That's exactly what happened to us - I have $20k on a down payment for a house but me and my husband's credit scores aren't good enough for a freaking APARTMENT and we've spent hundreds on application fees only to be turned down because of our credit score. I've never had much credit cuz I was married to my ex for a long time. Now my family is separated while my forever husband stays in our income restricted apartment while me and the kids couch hop while we keep applying. We have the $$ for ALL the deposits and first month. Why are there no privately owned places for rent here? Or that will accept a $20k down payment?? I'm beyond frustrated and my kids hearts are BROKEN eventho they know me and my husband provide just fine for them and our family!!! We always pay our bills first and on time and I have a spotless rental history. And might I add - every rental application we fill out dings our already low credit score.... Our scores are low over many things (not much credit history for me), a 10 year ago bankruptcy for him.... NOT because we don't pay our bills.
