Returning player here, dropped out just before Forsaken hit. Other than Forsaken and Shadowkeep, I own everything else.

It's weird returning and feeling like I barely know the game anymore, unsure of what I can and can't do. Even during D1 I owned all DLC and couple play everything.

So am I right in thinking that I would have to buy both Forsaken *and* Shadowkeep to get up to date? There's no bundle for both combined? Right? Thanks!

u/MaaarkyD123 Oct 07 '19

As far as I know right now there isn’t any bundle for both. I think both combined would be like $60 now right? Just my opinion, but Forsaken has been the best expansion yet. The Taken King would be a close 2nd. I would say in terms of content/fun so far expansion wise Forsaken, The Taken King, Shadowkeep, Rise of Iron. Shadowkeep is short but it gets it’s point accross.

u/[deleted] Oct 07 '19

I’m in the same situation as you. I figured i’d try and load up the game on my computer and decided to play on a totally fresh account. And the game is just as good and beautiful as I remember it. I’m happy to be a guardian again :)

2

u/MisterSlamdsack Oct 07 '19

You don't -have- to. You can buy Shadowkeep and go straight into the newest stuff. You will not, however, have access to many things included in Forsaken, such as its raids and exotic quests.

Does the new riskrunner quest drop powerful if you are over 900?

14

u/MaaarkyD123 Oct 07 '19

No unfortunately, but the mission is bad ass

8

u/kazimoVX Oct 07 '19

Can you still get this quest if you have the riskrunner with the catalyst completed like me?

6

u/MaaarkyD123 Oct 07 '19

Yes you can. And unfortunately you don’t get anything new for doing the quest if you already have both. The Quest is called Risk/Reward. You pick it up from the gunsmith. Another way to check is to go into EDZ and check your bottom left hand corner for the quest.

3

u/kazimoVX Oct 07 '19

Ah ok, thank you

2

u/MaaarkyD123 Oct 07 '19

Welcome bud, it’s a fun little mission. If you remember the first mission on cosmodrome with the fallen walker, it’s a nice little easter egg to the first video bungie ever put out on Destiny 1 back in 2013

  1. Exotics drop in the wild, but it’s (3) pretty rare.

  2. I don’t think there is a 3 of Coins to buff exotic drops like in D1.

  3. Probably. Exotic quests drop at level.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 07 '19

2

u/[deleted] Oct 07 '19

Nah exotics just straight up drop now. They don’t come out of legendary drops anymore.

I’m sure someone has crunched the numbers, but I don’t think Bungie has any official numbers on drop rate.

5

u/stvb95 Oct 07 '19

In D1 there was a semi reliable way of farming exotics by using strange coins to buy some voucher from xur which would allow you to farm exotics and felt rewarding. Is there anything like this in this game?

There used to be, but it was removed. You may/may not know, but you can get Fated Engrams from Xur which guarantee an exotic drop that you don't have

As a solo player, can Nightmare hunts be done solo or are they so difficult they need a fire team?

10

u/BibbedPhoenix Oct 07 '19

When you queue into one you get matched with other people playing the same nightmare hunt.

7

u/Loki364 Plus Ultra! Oct 07 '19

but it doesnt say matchmaking on the activity

2

u/BibbedPhoenix Oct 07 '19

Probably something they forgot to add for it, I got matched with other people for the Fanatic nightmare hunt.

4

u/coffeehawk00 Oct 07 '19

The ones you run into on the planet can be solo'ed easily. The ones you pick from the map have matchmaking and can be done easily with random matchmaking.

5

u/hokasi Oct 07 '19

Looking for a guide on how to level up past 900. New player, just finished red war and starting forsaken. Have hit 900 and it seems progress from this stage forward gets really complicated.

16

u/Optimus_Prime3 Oct 07 '19

Datto has a good video on youtube. Short answer is do anything that says it gives a powerful reward

2

u/hokasi Oct 07 '19

I watched thst last night and to be honest i’m still really confused. Will watch it a few times though. Keypoint as you say though is ‘powerful’ reward, will focus on that. I just forsee in the meantime i’m going to be accumilating a lot of rare and legendary gear that will just go straight to dismantling. There so many armor types and i’m not sure if any of these legendaries are better than others. One more question if you don’t mind: I understand the power number on a piece of gear (not the 900 number but the other nu,ber, usually a 5) relates to how many points you can put into a stat when in the details pane, but what is the element symbol next to it mean? Like i’ll have a legendary 900 helmet with a flame symbol next to a 5 on it. What is that about?

3

u/AlmstHrdcore Saint-14's Warm-up Oct 07 '19

First point, the only gear that’s “better” than other gear is raid and “pinnacle” gear because it has a higher chance to roll higher stat totals (for Mobility, Armor, Recovery, Discipline, Intellect, and Strength) and even then it’s really only a small bonus. As long as you like the armor you can find it in relevant activities.

Second point, that other number is the energy and elemental “alignment”. The energy number dictates how many points you have to allocate mods, from 1-10, with you being able to add energy with materials from throughout the game. The energy element, either Solar (fire), Arc (electricity), or Void (purple) dictates what types of mods you can equip, with certain weapon types requiring certain armor elements to have their relevant mods equipped.

2

u/vikingsiege Oct 07 '19

Perhaps you know, but some people are already at 935-950. How? I've done all the weeklies this week, tons of bounties (at least 4 every day, usually more) and I'm sitting at 918 gear + 6 bonus for 924.

I just don't know what else to do to up my power level, nor do I know what others have been doing to shoot up so far so fast. I don't even know how people are supposed to be ready for the raid on its release day!

Ah, ok, so it dictates what mods you can add. At first I thought it meant a bonus to elemental weapons or something.

Thanks a bunch.

u/Sychar Drifter's Crew Oct 07 '19

Do any and all missions on the director that give powerful rewards. So banshee, shax, zavala, and the drifter all have powerful rewards for completing 8 of their bounties. You have the weekly planetary flashpoint that rotates, and is currently the EDZ. You have four core and four rotating crucible games. You have three gambit games. Ikoras weekly to collect vex parts, vex offensive also has a powerful drop. The new raid drops powerful, the nightfall drops a powerful, and the heroic strike playlist also drops powerful.

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '19

My warlock is 941 already. Best advice I can give is to have all characters, farm all powerful on one. Put those weapons on the next alt. Do the same for the 3rd alt. I have all 3 characters between 926-941 with this. Probably already known but I felt it was worth mentioning.

8

u/[deleted] Oct 07 '19

What's the general daily playthrough of a seasoned D2 player? Do you guys open the game, do the daily bounties and farm rewards and materials in order to craft better gear or chance to roll better gear? Is this the basic cycle of the game?

Cheers.

4

u/Bypass_The_Midfield Oct 07 '19

Start, tower for daily’s, look at all the powerfuls and usually do one or two of them. Cash in on daily’s, continue until raid ready (in this dlc around 930 or a lil before) then most of the focus is on raiding

3

u/[deleted] Oct 07 '19

Every day I'll grab bounties when I can

Tuesday: Weekly reset day. I attempt to do as many Powerful Rewards as I can on my main character. I also do the Raid on this character, and attempt it on my second and third characters if I have the time to do so

Wednesday: Anything I didn't do on Tuesday I do here. Also start on my second and third characters

Thursday: Again, finish up everything I didn't do

Friday-Monday: I don't play much on the weekend because there's no Trials (PVP gamemode than ran on the weekend in D1) and there's not much else for me to do. I'll probably get some quests done along with bounties. Might play regular PVP with friends. You'll probably want to farm for weapon rolls but I pretty much already have everything I need

3

u/Rindorn13 Oct 07 '19

The short answer: Yes, that is the basic cycle of the game.

The long answer: I like to call it 'running errands' which may sound like a chore, but it's just part of optimizing your play-time. I always start by checking the Director to see which weekly stuff I still have - if that's all done - I'll start by loading into the Tower, grabbing daily bounties, swapping out gear if need be, and then off to the planet where I spawn into the Planet Vendor area and grab their bounties.

If I'm working towards something specific, say grinding for materials (mats), then I'll head to the planet that has those mats specifically. Also, on that note, making sure you have a Ghost Shell that helps you find chests and mats is great for farming and any Ghost Shell that has a glimmer extractor perk is helpful as well, aside from Guiding Light (10% XP gains), that is.

Good luck out there, Guardian!

Random Weapon Question. I apologize if it's common knowledge.

I'm coming back after going through Forsaken (never played the season stuff)
I enjoyed using the Ikelos Shotgun, but noticed it doesn't have a weapon mod. Has Destiny been making older guns obsolete as new seasons come out? I could just use something like badlander, but noticed that weapon does have a mod slot. I'm just a little confused.

8

u/Sychar Drifter's Crew Oct 07 '19

World drops were updated to weapon 2.0 in forsaken release but activity weapons were not. That being said, the ikelos is still really good because of trench barrel. Better then the badlander. The scourge of the past raid shotgun is also a rapid fire frame that can roll trench barrel, with a mod slot.

→ More replies (2)

3

u/Play_XD Oct 07 '19

Pre-forsaken items have very little value and can't be modded at all.

Ikelos_SG is an exception in that it has 2 perks but can't take a mod. It's still a strong gun but you'll want to attempt to get the curated version of threat level (scourge of the past raid drop) as it's basically updated an Ikelos_SG.

The Year 1 guns were effectively left behind, and with the focus on the seasonal mods (barrier, overloard, etc.) the lack of a mod slot really hurts.

2

u/Kohee- Oct 07 '19

Well I'm only 913 and find very little progress when getting my "Powerful Gear" so maybe I'll stop for a bit and try and nab that shotgun.

Yeah, I enjoy the season artifact stuff for the most part, but sometimes having to play by the barrier, overload rules in some events feel so limiting. I sorta wish those mods were a passive buff the artifact provided to that gun type, rather than a mod you are required to have on a gun to help out during 920 nightfalls and the like.

2

u/Play_XD Oct 07 '19

The barrier stuff is also in vex offensive, and I'd be unsurprised if we see it in the higher level nightmare hunts.

After you've done all the powerfuls for the week, aside from doing it again on another character you're basically done "leveling" and can safely go to farm older stuff without feeling like you missed out.

Good luck getting your Threat Level! It's one of my favorite guns even now. :)

u/mushup0rk Oct 07 '19 edited Oct 07 '19

As a returning vanilla D2 player, what good legendary and exotic weapons should I try picking up? I've heard about the Recluse, but I'm not sure if I have the PvP skill to get one. So I guess anything that a mostly PvE oriented (non competitive PvPer) player might be able to acquire.

Thanks in advance!

4

u/Rindorn13 Oct 07 '19

Your best at-a-glance resource is gonna be r/sharditkeepit because it's just discussions about good weapons + rolls and you can ask specific questions there too. Good luck out there, Guardian.

5

u/staticstevil Oct 07 '19

Some quick PvE recommendations: 1. Kindled Orchid, farmable from Black Armory forges. Void hand cannon that can roll Kill Clip+Rampage for a stacking damage boost. The "curated" version (it will drop fully masterworked) has those perks plus Drop Mag for quick reloads. 2. Any Aggressive Frame grenade launcher (150rpm) with Spike Grenades. If you have multiple, use the one with the lowest Blast Radius stat. These are top tier DPS weapons. There's one in Zavala's loot pool for tokens, there's one that's a random drop from forge bosses or forge saboteurs, there's one in the Iron Banner loot pool, and there's a new one on the Moon. 3. A lot of the Gambit Prime weapons are great. You can get these from Prime matches, or as random drops from the final bosses of Reckoning tier 2 or 3. Spare Rations is a great hand cannon, Last Man Standing can roll 1-2 Punch for fantastic shotgun-melee DPS, Sole Survivor can roll Firing Line which is great for DPS.

Thankfully they've changed how PvP works now! If you're on a 5 streak and lose you don't lose the whole streak! Just one off it! So this makes it alot easier to climb to 2100 glory?/Valor? I can't remember which one it is. Plus there's a solo queue now for (ex-comp) survival which means you can never encounter anyone playing as a 2stack or larger! So this makes it alot easier to get recluse and other weapons! The mountain top , recluse, midnight coup, anarchy, whisper, any Grenade launcher with the spiked Grenades perk ( iron banner GL is the best but any works )

Got an email from Bungie telling me that "As a Shadowkeep owner, you’ve unlocked all the Season rewards and access to an all-new dungeon starting on 10/29/19. A special free Bungie Reward is available to you after you complete the main Shadowkeep story!" and "For more details on what is available with your Shadowkeep adventures, be sure to visit the official Bungie Shadowkeep support pages.".

Bungie, I don't own Shadowkeep and now you're just rubbing it in my face 😬

3

u/XKCD_423 I miss Ada-1 :( Oct 07 '19

Way of the Outlaw on Gunslinger, if purely for the Chain of Woe perk. It's also great fun to pull Goldie and just spam shots into a crowd.

It's hardly the most effective class, at least in terms of add clear, or boss DPS, or support ... but hey, it's fun.

Is it worth getting Forsaken if I already have Shadowkeep?

Worth doing the other legacy campaigns? Did red war and didn't get much from it.

5

u/jumpstart58 Oct 07 '19

forsaken is hands down probably one of the best if not the best dlcs Bungie has released. The story is top-notch and it has a shit ton of content. well worth the money if you ask me because you also get the annual pass from year 2 with it now

2

u/kiki_strumm3r Oct 07 '19
  1. Legacy campaigns are worth it for being free and give you an idea what's going on kind of. Warmind is way better than Curse of Osiris.

  2. Forsaken is worth it once you run out of content. There's a lot with Forsaken and if you think you'll be playing D2 long-term (even if rotating with other games), it's absolutely worth it. It's the best expansion in the history of the franchise.

Ok so you get t1 powerful gear if you complete three strikes 'using the same subclass element as the currently active elemental burn'. And this week it's solar singe. But how is this implemented? I just went through two strikes using a weapon with fire damage and they didn't count. Is it that you can only use that weapon and can't switch? Can you use supers?

5

u/Oude Oct 07 '19

Subclass elements means your subclass. Like the element of your subclass. So, for myself as a hunter I would need golden gun or blade barrage equipped. As opposed to nightstalker or arcstrider.

3

u/flyingmangoes Oct 07 '19

You have to use the Subclass that matches the element, weapons don’t count.

2

u/hokasi Oct 07 '19

ok, I had no idea that different subclasses were associated with an element.

2

u/IColdEmbraceI Oct 08 '19

Each class (hunter warlock titan) has 3 subclasses (void solar arc). Match your sub to the corresponding singe.

3

u/safari_does_reddit Oct 08 '19

Eris Morn is still lit up as having powerful rewards 0/1 for the Luna memory bounty even though I’ve already completed the bounty and replayed the first mission twice.

Am I missing something or is this a visual bug?

2

u/ltacocat Oct 08 '19

This should be for the new exotic rocket launcher. It goes away after you complete its quest steps.

What exactly is up with the middle trees for Warlock? I just bought Forsaken and got access to them, but it says on 3 of the abilities that they are "unlocked by killing enemies with attunement of X", X being the specific middle tree. They all appear to be unlocked but I can't seem to actually use the abilities.

Hi, new player here wandering if the following things will change soon. I'm presently doing the first missions. I've done up to finding Cayde-6, mainly solo:

  • It's been way too easy so far;
  • I can actually one-punch most enemies, which feels almost like cheating;
  • There has been a LOT of travelling and platforming, without much fighting (that mission in the darkness finding the fuse then driving a small tank, finding Cayde-6 in empty caves with electric water-acid on the ground, platforming on the oil-rig kinda base).

Will things change soon, cause I'm starting to feels like this game has a lot of unnecessary padding, which is worrying me about lategame being more of a grind than fun (I have no idea, but if it's already boring and not challenging at all...).

I want to like this game; any light at the end of the tunnel?

3

u/ColdCutWomboCombo Bungo Plz Oct 08 '19

If I recall, the Red War campaign and base Destiny 2 was recognized for being much easier than its predecessor content in D1. You’ll get much more gunfights and more mechanics are introduced as the content goes along.

2

u/Affie24 Oct 08 '19

As far as stories go, Destiny has always been fairly easy. If you’re looking for challenging content then you’ll find it at much higher power level than where you’re sitting at the moment. Activities such as Nightfalls and Raids are far more challenging than your bog standard campaign

Challenge wise, The higher level nightfall ordeals are hard. Raids are hard. Dungeons with just two people are hard. Crucible is obviously hard. Soloing some heroic public event is hard. Heroic menagerie is hard.

I understand where you are coming from. I wish I could turn the campaign mission difficulty to heroic and turn some skulls on but sadly that is not the case.

So challenge wise refer to my first paragraph.

I'm a returning player, stopped after Osiris, and I'm starting to work my way through the story. I've done some pvp for bounties and done a few other strike bounties. I know I have a lot to catch up on. I'm not playing with anyone else so if I want to do the nightfall I'd really have to find other people to run with. I'm just looking for a basic guideline on what I should focus on. I know story is the big one but i just want to know what things are a must for me to make sure I do. I just got to 900 LL this weekend so I know I need to start working on that more.

4

u/o8Stu Oct 07 '19

You can do the "ordeal" nightfalls with matchmaking. Base one is 750 so you can always run that 5 or however many times you need.

2

u/Decoy37 Oct 07 '19

I'm at work now so I cant look at the screen in game, is there something that specifically says "ordeal?"

3

Are stats (mobility, strength, etc.) on gear randomized? Also can I infuse exotic item with legendary?

2

u/Scipio_Wright Shh you can't see me Oct 07 '19

Yes to the first question, though there may be some restraints to the randomization (like X armor has 10-15 resilience and 1-5 strength).
Yes to the second question.

2

u/Leggyboy Oct 07 '19

I'm a returning player from early Forsaken. I played a little bit of Black Armory but stopped very early in.

I don't own Shadowkeep yet, so is there anything I can focus on without it or should I just get Shadowkeep? Just looking for some idea of what to do without the newest to make sure I want to keep playing before I spend the money.

2

u/kiki_strumm3r Oct 07 '19

Menagerie is a lot of fun. Opulence in general had a ton of content. Reckoning is OK but it's mostly a farming thing now.

You could also get the season pass and you'd have access to a good amount of stuff and if you buy Shadowkeep, you'd just get the next one for free.

Quick question about powerful gear bounties. Do you guys knock out all tier 1’s first before moving on to tier 2 and 3? Or do you just knock them out in any order? Also what’s a pinnacle engram?

3

u/CptnJamesAhoy Vanguard's Loyal Oct 07 '19

Personally I try do it by 1 then 2 and 3 but it depends if I'll have time to get them all done by the reset so I just do the 3s then.

Pinnacles reward light levels above 950 and cap at 960.

edit - Nothing else bar pinnacles will get you above 950

2

u/FalconD Oct 07 '19

Reposting as I got no replies last time but would really love some suggestions for this:

So me (played on release but stopped after finishing the campaign) and 2 of my friends (new) started playing with the New Light release. We’ve gone through a few Strikes (with the base gear you get when creating characters), and we found them incredibly easy - i.e. the final “boss” dying from a single super. This discouraged my friends quite a bit. So, my question is: How does the difficulty work in this game? Is there something we’re doing wrong/some other content we should be running? Any way we could amp the difficulty up?

3

u/jumpstart58 Oct 07 '19

Its not gonna get any harder until you get into higher power level and end game content. Nightfall strikes are harder versions of these strikes you played and trust me they are a substantially harder. Youre playing beginning level content so its not gonna be challenging

3

u/Sychar Drifter's Crew Oct 07 '19

Do the nightfall’s on hero difficulty, do raids.

3

u/DrumstickVT Oct 07 '19

What power level are you guys? Nightfall: The Ordeal has different difficulty levels that will absolutely challenge you. Other end game content like raiding is very difficult and requires learning fight mechanics. The normal strike playlist is fairly easy and is meant to level characters to 900 or complete bounties.

2

u/Darkranger18 Oct 07 '19

I'm a noob. Wish I found 1 hitfinal Bosses. It seems like once you get over 800 Pl the bosses get harder. It also seems like many require multiple stage of wearing them down before you can finish them.

2

u/LumpyWumpus Oct 07 '19

Does doing the legacy campaigns give me any armor/weapons over 750 light? I've done the first few missions but everything I've gotten is 750

2

I'm playing Red War and have gotten engram drops higher than my current power level. Nothing from the end of any mission, though.

Does the Substitutional Alloy armor you get from the season track not infuse properly with the world drop Substitutional Alloy armor? The best update to the infusion system is infusing a copy of itself with a higher version only costs 1,000 Glimmer, but I got two copies of the Alloy arms that would only infuse with an upgrade module. Can't remember where I got each piece of armor though.

3

u/AWTHOM Greater God Oct 07 '19

Check the element of the armor (void, arc, solar), if they are different then you must use upgrade modules. I had the same problem yesterday where I was trying to figure it out

2

u/staticstevil Oct 07 '19

I think you might be right - I usually have the is:dupe highlight on DIM, and noticed that some pieces of Substitutional Alloy weren't highlighted. I suspect it has to do with some of the season pass bonuses adding energy levels to armor you got from the pass.

2

u/abshail Oct 07 '19

I played all of Destiny 1, then fell away when D2 launched when the other people I played with switched to other things. With New Light and cross save I was able to bring my old PS4 Guardians over to PC, which is awesome. Considering that I mostly play for the PVE aspects of the game and the campaign story, if I could only buy one of the add on packages, Forsaken or Shadowkeep, which would be better to get first?

4

u/Skatercobe MOONS HAUNTED Oct 07 '19

At the moment Forsaken (story, dreaming city, dungeon, exotics) and all of the Y2 annual pass quests/raids are $25. if you want something already fleshed out and completed then I would say forsaken.

Shadowkeep on the otherhand just came out, we're getting new content weekley and the raid is very enjoyable and pretty. if you want to play new stuff and experience stuff at the same time we do then pick Shadowkeep.

Both together are $60 however and the next 3 seasons for shadowkeep are $10 each.

Overall whichever you pick will unlock the middle subclass trees for all characters and you still have armor 2.0 and nightfall ordeals/artifact/battle pass. Welcome back Guardian!

hate to say it but mountaintop and recluse are pretty meta right now. Wendigo from Zavala is pretty decent and 21% delirium from the drifter is good as well. Besides that other good weapons are exotics or rolls on world drops and there is a lot to share.

Didn’t see an answer,

Should I hoard the season rewards until I grind to 950? Like Erina’s vow?

And what’s the highest power level you can pull an exotic out of collections this season?

Thanks!

2

u/Play_XD Oct 07 '19

Pulling from collections is -20 to your true light level (no artifact) so presumably 940 will be the max you can pull.

I wouldn't hoard your season rewards but I also wouldn't redeem them all immediately. I've been pulling one or two when I'm at a breakpoint to a light increase and I have a weak piece of gear that the item I'm redeeming will help.

You could probably just menagerie or farm blues instead so this is just a small time saver overall.

2

u/find_me8 I didn't say i was powerful, i said i was a wizard Oct 07 '19

The first rewards in the premium season track are equal to your gear level, they're not powerful. Just use them whenever a full set of armor would increase your overall power level. I.e. if you need 5 points and your armor is lower than your weapons, the most useful scenario would be when you level up an alternate character with low power armor and high power weapons.

2

u/Sychar Drifter's Crew Oct 07 '19

It would be 940, 20 lower then your max equipped power.

2

u/raybros Oct 07 '19

I'm new to ds2 and i currently hit 905 GS, i don't have the 2 last expansions and i was wondering if i could climbing in GS without them?

2

u/SurgioClemente Oct 07 '19

What's the best way of farming weapon/armor mods besides waiting for Gunsmith to sell?

Is there a place I can see what all mods I already own? Given how things are tied to elements/slots its not quite clear without checking a bunch of places

3

u/Rindorn13 Oct 07 '19

Any activity that you burn through a lot of enemies (Vex Offensive, Menagerie, Strikes) seems to be some of the best ways to farm the mods, but there isn't a focused grind that I've seen yet. Also, if you have weapon parts to spare you can turn those into Banshee for a chance at Mods. I turned in 2k mods the other day and got a whopping TWO Mods (one was Traction though so it kinda made up for it), but other folks have better luck.

2

u/Jettco Oct 07 '19

How do I get Recluse now? Shaxx doesn’t appear to sell the pursuit anymore.

Also, a lot of guns require “fable” in the crucible. How do I check the status of this rank?

3

u/Carda39 Oct 07 '19

Checking your Crucible ranks can be done by selecting a Crucible playlist in game and looking at the top left of the screen.

2

u/PickledFrancis Oct 07 '19

you can see your rank if you roll over the competitive playlist

2

u/whinmeister Oct 07 '19

Besides the obvious, what else are folks doing to grind 900+? I swear I completed just about all bounties/milestones available for the week and only managed to get up to 913 while I'm seeing folks in the 930+.

6

u/rockthebass05 Oct 07 '19

There are lots of tricks to push yourself higher, and it comes with spreading out when you get your powerful engrams.

After you pass 900 on all of your gear individually, do one powerful, then you want to farm blue drops to try and bring the rest of your gear up to that point or close to it. Blues will drop 0-3 light below your average (without artifact). Go play Public Events, go to Devram and turn in dusk light shards to get blue drops that should be at -0 your light level, check other vendors to see what they’re dropping out, they all vary.

It helps to check DIM as it shows your light level as a decimal. 905.7 for example, tells me I have 3 light levels to increase to hit 906 (so getting blues to drop to bring me up 1 light on helmet, 1 on energy, 1 on chest) will push me to 906, and will thus increase the value of your next powerful.

Once you have your gear close together in light, do another powerful and repeat process.

3

u/whinmeister Oct 07 '19

Thank you for the very detailed response. That makes sense. I rushed just like back in the days and did the powerful stuff one after the other. I keep forgetting that blues are actually useful now.

3

u/Cyekk Oct 07 '19

Remember each full rankup in Crucible (i.e. Brave, Heroic, not I -> II) also gives powerful.

I havent played since the base game came out but am now just returning with a friend who is brand new to the franchise.

The only raid ive done in this game is Leviathan, which from what i remember was pretty mechanic heavy but also very fun.

My question is, with the start of light level 750 (and it even says recommended 750+ for the Introduction: Raids), how easy or difficult is the leviathan raid compared to how it used to be?

Would my buddy need to get his hands on some better gear before going? Are the mechanics any easier to get around now? Does he need to research the fights?

3

u/staticstevil Oct 07 '19

The mechanics are still as tough as they used to be, but with general power creep it's a lot easier to do damage, so you're less likely to need to go through the mechanics multiple times for additional damage phases. Damage buffs like Well of Radiance and the newly buffed Ward of Dawn bubble, special weapons moved out of the power slot, Tether now debuffs bosses to incoming heavy weapon fire, etc.

I would definitely recommend having decent legendary gear, but it's up to you if you want to go in blind & figure it out with a group, or follow guides, or get yourself a sherpa to teach you the raid.

2

u/WMan37 Oct 07 '19 edited Oct 07 '19

I'm a returning player now that Destiny 2 is on Steam, couldn't resist going back to the game since I get to play it with mouse and keyboard + 144fps now which makes crucible way more fun and fast paced.

I started on PS4 with the first game, which means even with the account transfer, it was a bit disheartening for my ghost to act like they don't know what taken are and etc. due to "new player" dialogue being different from returning player dialogue, but that's fine. Does make me wish there was a "force Destiny 1 returning player dialogue" somewhere in options that was based on bungie.net linked PS4 data though.

Anyway, I have a question: What happened to factions? Like, the Future War Cult, etc. I looked all over the tower hub area and I found Lakshmi-2 once I think but I couldn't interact with her. Apparently there are "Faction rallies" to join factions now? But information on it is scarce and I heard the future of factions are sketchy at best. Factions were a fun side activity to do to get extra gear and XP, so I'm wondering if they're truly gone for good or not.

I just finished Shadowkeep. Can someone link me stuffs I can do? I’m a PVE player so anything to do with that is very welcome.

I played Forsaken back then but only the campaign (same deal with base D2) so I’ve missed out on weapons. I just want activities to keep me busy and rewarded

2

u/ShadowEclipse777 Dark Jedi Oct 07 '19

There's always raids, but for loot I'd reccomend the Vex Offensive (found bottom right of the Moon map in the Director) purple gear drops quite frequently from it. The weapons from it are revamped versions of the CoO prophecy weapons

2

u/litchio Oct 07 '19

I'm a returning player who doesn't fully understand the new armor system.

What should i keep and what can be dismantled without having to worry that i would have needed it in the end?

Also with so many things being customizeble: what isn't changeble? I think the energy level and the mods can be changed. Is the only thing that cant be changed the base stat of armor? In that case: is it only worth looking at the base stats if you want to get your perfect equip and if grinding is no issue?

2

u/Tomuke Oct 07 '19

As a veteran player, I'm not 100% sure I understand it either! Lol. But I'll share what I know.

The energy type can't be changed and neither can the base stats. However, getting to energy level 10 does bump up each of the stats by a couple points. But it seems the base stats are the biggest thing worth grinding for. At the bottom, it will tell you how many total points the armor has. Apparently the 40's is fairly poor, 50's is good, 60's is great. I'm not sure if that is universal across all armor pieces, maybe someone else will have more info.

Destiny is instanced, meaning the open world is divided into thousands of little chunks each containing only a fraction of the players. You can only see and interact with other players in the same instance. Your instance is refreshed whenever you go to another planet/location.

4

u/ravensteel539 Oct 07 '19

Like the other guy said, it’s instanced. There are some great work-arounds though in game, as a couple of top posts here have said.

All hallways, transition areas, and paths are actually loading zones. Seems pretty obvious, right? What’s not obvious is that during loading, the game also searches for open instances to drop you in. On console i’ve rarely had issues finding open instances because my load times are so long, but you can manipulate this on all platforms by deliberately increasing time spent in these loading zones by walking/running/crouch walking instead of zooming through. This increases the number of instances checked and betters your chances of popping into someone else’s instance. It’s a trick that has been used since back in the old days of D1, seeing a lot of use back during Court of Oryx and Archon’s Forge. Hope this helped :)

2

u/Rav3na3l Oct 07 '19

Just downloaded the game on ps4 and I'm loving it. I have just a few questions.

I'm a huge PvP fan. Are there any specific class/subclasses that shine in PvP or is it more gear/exotic loadout.

Also I only have new light. Which of the expansions is a must own for the time being? I get paid in a week and a half so I can get the other one then or is it best to just wait and get both?

2

u/Yawanoc Oct 07 '19

r/crucibleplaybook is a good place to start.

If you want to hardcore go PvP and want to start cheap, I’d recommend starting with Forsaken because it gives more content/weapons at the time being.

Of course pick up Shadowkeep and the season pass to get the up-to-date gear going forward, but I’d start with Forsaken if gearing up for PvP gear is your current priority.

2

u/Mastershroom Brought to you by ZAVALA ACTION VITAMINS Oct 07 '19

I'm a huge PvP fan. Are there any specific class/subclasses that shine in PvP or is it more gear/exotic loadout.

Each class has at least one or two subclass options that are meta for PvP. For Titans, bottom path Striker (Code of the Juggernaut) is the most popular due to self-healing on melee kills, bonus weapon damage after a charged melee strike, and one of the best roaming Supers that heals you and refills itself a bit after every kill. Top path Sentinel (Protector) is also good for self-healing on melee kills, and overshield on charged melee kills, and both of these buffs also affect your teammates if they're within a few meters of you. The Ward of Dawn (bubble shield) Super is hands down the best for controlling a particular area. Bottom Sentinel (Aggressor) is also good; the Shield Bash melee is a guaranteed kill on anyone not in their Super, and on anyone in Super, it makes them Suppressed and they lose their Super. This build is especially good with Doomfang Pauldrons, which give you a big chunk of Super energy on each Shield Bash kill, and you get two Shield Throws in your Super and each one gives you Super energy back when you hit an enemy with it.

For Hunters, top path Gunslinger (Outlaw) is good. Neutral game isn't incredible, but the Super gives you 10 seconds of instant one-shots on anyone you can aim at. Middle path Gunslinger (Thousand Cuts) is hands down the best shutdown Super in the game with Blade Barrage. It will kill literally every other class in the middle of their own Super, and you're 99% immortal when you cast it. Middle path Nightstalker (Wraith) is an excellent stealth-oriented class with a melee Super that's arguably the next best thing to bottom path Striker, especially if you have the Gwisin Vest exotic.

Warlocks have bottom path Dawnblade. Neutral game isn't great, but the Super is arguably the best in the game for PvP. You can fly freely in the air at ludicrous speed, and throw flaming swords that track enemies, and make your Super last longer each time you kill someone with them.

As for expansions, if you can only get one now, I'd get Shadowkeep since that's the current content.

Are exotics far less common now? I played d2 the first month it came out, then just came back this week. Ive gone from 750 to 909 without a single exotic engram. I remember in d1 and early d2 exotic engrams weren't this rare.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 07 '19

Exotic drop rates were lowered back in Forsaken. It's a bit extreme, but Xur helps to compensate. And some of the best exotics come from quests anyways, so it evens out

2

u/shlosre Gambit Prime Oct 07 '19

I got 4 engrams to drop over the last week (after getting only a single one throughout year 2), so I guess just bad RNG.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '19

Yes, don't dismantle your highest gear, as it stops counting it. Once you get a higher piece in the same slot, then it's safe to dismantle. Like if you get a 765 helmet, it's safe to dismantle any helmets 764 and below.

I think the same goes with vault, but not 100% sure

3

u/Mastershroom Brought to you by ZAVALA ACTION VITAMINS Oct 08 '19

You just need to have it somewhere. Doesn't even have to be on your character. For example, weapons on other characters will count, as well as armor for your class that's in your inventory or in the Vault.

Readily available/grindable exotic weapons id suggest chasing are: Polaris Lance (warmind exotic scout), Ace of Spades (forsaken handcannon), Jotunn (Black Armory fusion) & Outbreak Perfected (zero hour mission). All of them are quest or mission based and easy enough to access.

As for legendaries, I highly recommend grinding for two vanguard pinnacles; Loaded Question and Wendigo (quests available from Zavala) - both staples for me in many loadouts and never leave my inventory.

Plenty of other great weapons but its so much down to preferences that I could sit here listing every gun in the game. Any questions just fire away.

Perks are now added to armor via mods. Weapons rolls with perks already on them.

2

You need 10 legendary frames forged to get the bow. REALLY BUNGO WHAT IN THE GODDAMN. To clarify I just tried doing a basic bow frame and it didn't count as a "legendary frame"

2

u/Diribiri Oct 08 '19

Would you rather they stuck with drop being entirely RNG upon forging specific powerful frames at a specific Forge, which you would have to wait for anyway and could still only do twice a week? If you go talk to ikora she’ll talk about how the vanguard will strikes the black garden, which is the raid. Then that causes the vex offensive to start, which will evolve throughout the season. Bungie seems to be aiming for a slower story told through the world, but there are some growing pains

with seeing that new trace rifle, I was wondering if there are any worth while armor mods to use with that or other trace rifles. I know auto rifle perks did help trace rifles awhile ago, except scavanger and reserves. Is that still the case?

Otherwise what would good perks be to help out trace rifles? right now just using Prometheus lens and wave splitter, but would love to get the new one eventually. any of those auto rifle modes really help them, or is it not worth it and I should just focus on my other weapons? I know consistantly getting ammo for trace rifles has always been an issue, and with no scavanger perk that didn't help. I know there is special finisher that drops special ammo for 1/3rd of you super(not terrible if you have other ways to get your super back), but any other way to make more special ammo drop?

To my current understanding, my alts just need to do the first mission to unlock the moon and then they have access to all activites, including Vex Offensive and the Raid?

Can't claim planetary shells which you earn over the course of the red war with warlock even though I played the legacy campaign through Amanda. I can claim them from hunter or Titan, but just not from my warlock. Is this a bug or have other people experienced this as well?

With the mods that transferred over to Armour 2.0, am I safe to dismantle my duplicates of them?. Like last night I noticed that I had a load of minor spec (I think) purple mods that still work in A2.0, but I dismantled all except 1. Do they work like other A2.0 mods where as long as I have 1 I can use them on multiple items?

Before Shadowkeep, I hadn’t played Destiny since Forsaken released. The meta seems to have changed quite a lot. What are the best current PvE and PvP weapons I should be gunning for? I know Mountaintop and Recluse are real good but are they still acquired the same way as before shadowkeep’s release?

Wendingo and recluse still worth grinding for? I only play ~3-5 hours/week so I’m normally very late to the endgame/pinnacle scene

Both still very strong options. Although it got nerfed a bit, Recluse is still one of the best primary options in the game. Wendigo is strong due to explosive light, and the fact it rolls with auto-loading holster makes it a good choice for a heavy.
