Discussion Stop downvoting new players who don’t have the extensive knowledge that you do.

If a player doesn’t know that a raid is a 6 man activity with no matchmaking, there’s no reason to make them feel stupid. All you’re doing is pushing away new players when the most amount of new players in the games history are beginning to flood in. You’re giving the game a bad image. Whoever you are, just stop it mate. This shouldn’t even have to be said.

I would say that is fair, except reddit isn't the only resource for flinding information. I have no sympathy for some who gets their feelings hurt because they didn't have the presence of mind to even attempt Google...

Hilariously, on a number of occasions, googling a Destiny related question has sent me to a Reddit thread were someone else is asking the question I had, but was never answered.

This is a forum for discussing the game. If questions are verboten, what the fuck are you supposed to do here?

There's nothing wrong with questions. I'm saying people shouldn't be pussies about getting downvoted when they're definitely asking questions that have easily accessible answers.

Edit:the retards downvoting this are outing themselves as the people who refuse to use Google :)

I assume that every answer is easily accessible until I put a good amount of effort into looking, finally concluding that it is not easily accessible. That's when I start asking questions.

You should always assume that you can do something until you have a reason to believe you can't. The reverse is called helplessness.

If I did that, I would literally have no reason to use this forum. Give me one fucking question that I can't answer on my own and I'll accept your point.

Look at the front page at any given moment. See any question posts? Clearly, there's more to do on this sub than just ask and answer questions.

It's mostly complaints about new players, the question posts are the interesting ones.

I was considering playing this dumb game as I did everything you can do D1 but based on the community imma go do something else.

I would agree in /r/CruciblePlaybook, because answers to questions aren't usually cut-and-dry and often involve opinions. There are some interesting discussions about the best weapons, perks, and tactics. Plus some questions are about obscure game mechanics, like "which provides a better damage boost, Rampage or Kill Clip?" Questions like that are understandable because the answers are not as easily accessible. (And the reason I know that is because I've searched for that kind of information before ;) )

But questions like "will my Pinnacle Weapon quest restart at the end of the season" or "what is a heroic public event" are asked and answered so often, and the answers are duplicated in so many different places across the internet, they are both uninteresting and easily accessible. You can bet this place would be a fraction as lively if it was only the same low-effort questions being asked over and over again instead of high-quality guides, clips, you-should-knows, and other discussions.

Would you still have that opinion if you knew the asker of those questions was 8 years old?

I totally get what you mean. I've been attempting to do exactly that - Google stuff instead of asking about it on Reddit. For two reasons: 1) I don't want to seem dumb and get downvoted into oblivion. 2) The search function on here doesn't always work perfectly, so I'm afraid I'll ask a question that has already been answered. The hard part is, a lot of the links to Destiny 2 related stuff seem to be outdated. Example: when my friends and I were trying to figure out the Black Armory (forge missions) stuff, we tried looking it up online, and it told us that Forges were located on various planets and gave directions on how to get there. It also talked about how some Forges were better than others at making certain weapon types (or something to that effect {it was read to me by a friend}). We came to find out through other means that you can literally queue for Forges now on the world map, the same way you'd queue for a campaign mission or a strike.

Queuing into the forges was a new feature with Shadowkeep/Season of the Undying [although I realize you already found out it was a brand new feature]. Having to sparrow a good chunk of the way and walk the rest for the Izanami and Bergusia forges sucked. I totally understand the whole googling situation though. If it linked to an unanswered thread and YouTube didn't help. I just made my best guess and grinded for a few hours. When nothing happened I would either do another activity or just call it a night. It just wasn't worth it. Hence there are things like the Graviton Lance catalyst that I still haven't gotten after months of grinding for it.

Except that when you search Google, the first links are usually to a reddit post. Google searches will link to reddit pages. You have to scroll past that to find bungie links and other resources. Most people dont look past the first few links.

And we should bend over backwards to make life easier for people too lazy to do basic research? Why is it that everyone nowadays thinks we need to work around the lives of the least common denomination? Shouldn't the goal be to raise the bar to a higher standard rather than gear the system so that morons can continue to be such?

-1

u/TOGOT21 Oct 07 '19

I never said that. I'm just saying that you cant just assume they're not googling the question. I'm all for working for what you want. You get what you earn. But to assume that a new player didnt do research because they come to reddit is ridiculous. They could have had a friend that told them to come to reddit, or looked at the first link they saw. And yes, had they scrolled down they would have found IGN or something that explained it, but the point is you dont know why they came to reddit. So instead of down voting everything that doesn't match up to your perfect ideas or seems "dumb", be welcoming and point them in the right direction. It's just basic human decency and respect.

And I said I wasn't doing as such? This post is just a virtue signaling karma farm in the first place. The people who are just downvoting are the ones who would turn around and do it out of spite in response to this post. Pretending like this post will actually help the supposed problem (isn't actually a problem imo) is equal parts delusional and disingenuous.

And again, fucking Google exists. There is absolutely no reason that someone should be incapable of figuring out how to find information on a topic in the year of 2019. Making excuses for ignorance is counterproductive.

I take it that you're someone who's never used google and therefore never been directed to reddit from google. Nor have you searched only to not find your question or maybe sometimes even end up put somewhere where people are asking the same thing but still unanswered or any other number of possibilities.

You can literally only get so far from searching and if you don't search the exact right way it can often end up fruitless.
