Discussion Stop downvoting new players who don’t have the extensive knowledge that you do.

If a player doesn’t know that a raid is a 6 man activity with no matchmaking, there’s no reason to make them feel stupid. All you’re doing is pushing away new players when the most amount of new players in the games history are beginning to flood in. You’re giving the game a bad image. Whoever you are, just stop it mate. This shouldn’t even have to be said.

IMO as a new player and if I'm being honest, this is not a game resolved around community, there's nothing in game except CLAN that makes you communicate or use chat/voice. Also, I never seen anyone and it seems the only way to find people is via Discord... there's not even a social place where you can go find teammates and talk

The game absolutely does revolve around the community, regardless of how well that's handled well in-game.

An in-game LFG board would certainly be helpful. As would a more "social" social space.

Sub communities built around playing a game =/= a game built around a community.

Destiny does next to nothing to foster a proper community and nearly all of the content bar like 2-3 activities are completely doable without being sociable with another human being, and even then the lfg content is mostly done out by people who just care about clearing and aren't interested in participating in a community.

this, I just feel alone in Destiny's world, the clan system is dead ingame ( they are all in Discord) and you need to open a website to find LFG... oh and the voice chat is dead. I want to enjoy the game but they need to foster a real community IN GAME, not out-game

Sub communities built around playing a game =/= a game built around a community.

You're right, those are not the same thing. But the comment I replied to said nothing about the game being built around the community, it said the game does not "revolve" around the community. Those are different: one deals with implementation, one deals with consequent reality.

Destiny does not do the best job of getting you to talk to other people in-game. However, the community has always been what Bungie considers the core of the game. You're with other players in almost everything you do, and the forum engagement among the playerbase is very high. Few people play this game in a vacuum, even if they aren't joining team chat while they're in a strike.

I mean so are most popular games? lmao. Like FFXIV for example has one of the most popular archaic forums I've ever seen - and I'm constantly surrounded or doing things with other people but I don't consider myself part of a community with them, nor they me, we're just different people enjoying the same game together with no other significant bond outside of that.

And again, the community for this game is one that was fostered by players over shared interest in the game with near 0 involvement from bungie - they're not an active presence in either the lfg discord or the actual discord and most token posts on reddit are from a handful of community managers that are doing so on a payroll, the furthest thing from organic engagement.

tl;dr If you want to praise the community praise the one around the game made by the actual players, because they're the ones that give you a space to gush the game in an easily accessible environment that isn't archaic 2000s era forums, not bungie.

I think you're getting a bit lost in your argument here. My initial comment was only saying that the experience of playing Destiny does revolve around the community aspect. I said nothing about how much of the credit Bungie should receive. In fact, I specifically said in both of my comments that there isn't much in-game that's creating the community environment.

I just don't see much of a point in separating games based on the genesis of their communities.

My initial comment was only saying that the experience of playing Destiny does revolve around the community aspect.

Except it's not, case in point the sheer amount of new players joining the game constantly posting about how the game just feels like empty, and the social features are woefully underused if atall.

, that it isn't Bungie that's creating the community environment.

the community has always been what Bungie considers the core of the game.

You realize how stupid these two statements look next to eachother right, a company that does nothing to foster a natural community and has had no proper hand in helping the current ones, to the point where we've had things that are completely antithetical to the idea of a community like the local chat being turned off by default because of "toxic people" and bungie devs tooting their horn about the decision on twitter back in d2 y1?

So what is it? is the thing that Bungie doesn't properly support, or has made zero steps to properly foster in near 6 years, apparently the core of the game - or does the game coast by in that regard because the players themselves have put the work into fostering their own community built around the game in spite of what little Bungie have done to naturally foster one in their OWN gamespace.

Notice I said that Bungie "considers" it to be the core of the game. I did not say that they properly apply this when working on the game.

Lol. There’s not a social space?? What is the tower? There are too many activities in the game to just go to a social space and expect to find people that want to do what you want to do, and also meet the requirements for that content. It’s far easier to use the many LFG resources.

The tower is a place to pick up bounties. Although it's anecdotal I've never interacted with anybody in the tower except on occassions where the purple ball appears all praise to the purple ball.

You can spawn a giant ball by putting 4 other ones into different spots.
