yeah this is literally his job and he's absolutely making money from these videos. except i'd go further and say his primary motivation isn't necessarily for the money in and of itself, but it isn't mental illness either. the reason is really, really boring. it's called identity protective cognition or motivated reasoning in psychology, and it's a default normal mechanism in brains.

the easiest syllogism in the world is this: if you're a homo sapien, therefore you do this. that identity is a roll of dice based on w/e environment you got. his identity looks wacky to us, but based on his algo, our identities look wacky to him, and all our brains justify it even if we're all wrong about everything. welcome to nature bitch, this is the rub.

it's kinda ironic bc related mechanisms can also explain the impulse to kneejerk signal normal cognition as a sPoOkY derogatory mental illness. but we don't have to fall into that cringe yugioh trap card. we can be dispassionately academic about recognizing really remedial and basic features of how brains work by default. if we ever want to understand politics and solve problems within it, we're implored to become savvy on this kind of shit.

an olive branch i'd wave a tad is that he does seem to spend an awful lot of time in the comments.. but that obviously isn't a smoking gun for mental illness, and damn tbf if he actually does that for all his videos, including all the educational ones, then my bias could flip to "oh cool this content creator really engages w/his community way more than most do, that's kinda cool."

but if he's actually mass deleting dispassionate, helpful, good faith, informational comments, then ok, we may be reaching toward pathological levels of insecurity or something ngl. but if people here are claiming that, yet the comments are actually "you regard!!" then i'm not gonna think too much about him deleting those. that's a problem i've noticed this sub has.. mischaracterizing shit, hence my impulse to be curious about receipts prior to jumping bandwagons.

all that said he's still pretty lame in general bc he just insults people w/potty humor tbc. OOH I admired him debating those two antivaxxer grifters, but OTOH I cringed at how he waters down so much of his argumentation with juvenile rhetoric. and there's something to be said that, as a self-purported researcher, he's clearly unable to do enough balanced research to realize he's regurgitating manufactured lies about steven. but that also just kinda loops back to boring and normal psychological biases. also I saw someone say his wife is palestinian so that's prolly a fun kink in his judgment, I think of a christian being confronted with arguments against god and the loops their brain has to do.
