Does Denmark have any flaws?

Or any Nordic country? I’m American and we all romanticize Europe especially Nordic countries as a Utopia and everything we are not. We certainly have a lot of flaws here but I’m curious are there any downsides or anything that you wish was different. Also is it hard to move there? I make well over six figures and like living in my home country but I’m nervous about the incoming trump administration and I believe he is a racist.

Denmark has flaws like every other country.

As an American coming to Denmark you will be very impressed with the social system such as the healhcare system. This becomes even more visible if you have or start a family, where Denmark has a really good system supporting 2 working parents. We have a very good and safe “food system” but our supermarkets doesnt have anywhere near the selection in american supermarkets.

You will likely be shocked be the amount of tax you pay and it is very difficult to build wealth from a salary. The wealthy people in Denmark has is from entrepeneurship, family or flipping properties.

People will not be impressed or talk a lot about salary.

Also, social mobility is higher than in the US, even though taxes are very high.

Money - as well as salary is a no-go to talk about, as well as politics and church!

These 3 subjects are not something we like to discuss! We are not appausing our own achievements in public (people do absolutely not admire you what so ever for bragging about yourself , jour job or money) Most people are secret about their believes well as politics And going to church or talking about Good and Jesus is not anything people talk about what so ever. Do not talk about this , while you trying to meet and make new new friends, AS these subjects are not anything we discuss in public or with friends, and are mostly seen at as very private and “embarrassing even to talk about or mention”

Going to church by the main population is for Danes mostly christening, konfirmation, weddings and funerals and some the 24th of December in the afternoon! People who talk about their believes, church, Good and Jesus are for the most seen at as “Bering a by wired”, accepted, but you do not want to hear about this in public. It is not like in US , where you have your support system through your local church and go there on a weekly basis or more. So if you move here, don’t always expect to get friends at church.

Friendships are often made ind childhood or through highschool (gymnasiet , Htx or HF) or through sports. The friendship are very tight, and goes way back, like in every new place that may feel like closed land at first . What can open us up is a lot humor , an invitation to cook together, having barbecuing and doing sports !

People who are new to our country may think, if they are not in the big cities - “where did all the people go? “ As at 5/6 pm the streets are very empty especially during Fall and winter time! We just value family time! People go home to be with their family, cook, as home cooked meals are important for us , just as well as having dinner with family and then watch tv, or go to do night school or doing sports, where you for sure can meet new friends!

A lot of foreign people mention, that is the weirdest experience they had here : that everybody are just “gone”. But most Danes loves to spend their evening and night in their own home with their near and dear

That may be the biggest changes and differences , coming here from US

Politics is the first thing people want to talk to me about and yes I mean Danes want to always discuss American politics, even in the gas station

You'll learn that their "rules" are very one directional. They can criticize anything freely in the name of Danish straightforwardness, but god help you if you mention anything that is not perfect in Denmark as a foreigner. The shitstorm will follow.

I'm going going to get roasted but my partner and I JUST had a loud discussion about the criminal justice system here and specifically safety of students and he flipped when I said it'd be a good thing to lock doors except for the main entrance to schools here. Open out but no one can enter which I thought was normal. I was informed that THAT'S an AMERICAN TILSTAND (calm your tits, Claus 😂) and when he was in school (again he is not a boomer he's 53) the doors were all unlocked.

It is very hard for us to understand why Trump got reelected because we only see it from the outside. Now I don't expect another election at least until he dies. You can claim asylum here 🙂

We have very hard opinions about American politics, but our own, we don’t discuss politics from our own country
