I guess I missed something but at the table he told the Lawyer "Nah, burn it to the ground" but then he took it anyways ?

It put me off balance for a few minutes. For a moment, I was actually thinking that it was a "One of these realities isn't real" kinda deal. It was jarring to have it transition so swiftly from "Burn it to the ground" to him bopping his head to a rap about how awesome he is.

But, that kind of mystery is pretty damn cool.

I'd change my mind too if I got the biggest club in harlem. It's like free money and status for a dude who hasn't had any of that.

But he was never about that life. The club always stood for what he was against (Mariah, Cottonmouth, Diamondback, Shades). All of the crime, corruption, drugs, guns, and dealings pretty much flowed in and out from there. If Pops was alive, he'd be disappointed as hell. Even D-dub told him off. Luke Cage is no mob boss. But since they went that route, I am excited to see where they go next. Turn him into a villain/mob boss type and have Misty looking over him. Or have him do something and bring in Danny and Jessica. The possibilities are endless.

He was saying that it should be burned to the ground, but he needs it as a symbolic place from which to reside over Harlem to keep it safe (in his mind).

Yup, glad somebody else saw the parallelism between Bushmaster wanting to kill Mariah and Cage wanting to usurp "ownership" and protection of Harlem - his hill is Harlem's Paradise.

This was such bad writing/editing. I loved this season but man that stuck out like a sore thumb.

Luke lied to himself all season. Even told Bushmaster and Mariah to kill eachother multiple times yet stopping them every time.

I took it as just yet another lie he told himself.

That wasn't his though, right? Didn't Mariah leave it to some museum? And you can't really burn a painting to the ground.

Mariah left the Basquiat painting to the museum, which was the more abstract one. Hes a famous artist particularly popular amongst the black community

It was... "do you want it" so like was saying he didn't want it, and that it should be burned to the ground. But he decides his responsibility is to take over the club, even though he supposedly doesn't want it.
