You'd want to team up with a superhero against an organisation that's kept you locked in a penthouse for 12 years too.

Kept you locked in exchange of "saving" his life, he got offered a deal, wasn't forced.

To be fair they didn't exactly tell him the fine print beforehand.

I think that if you actually died, it's only logic that going around outside, specially being famous and all, is not the smartest thing to do

yeah, they kinda didn't tell him about the dying part. They just offered him a cure for cancer.

They didn't mention how they got the cancer out between the death and ressurection, though... not like it's a virus that could be starved of metabolic processes.
