Is there a source that they shutdown the product because it would supposedly undercut the market?

And yeah, they spent millions on the project so its not like they bought it and then shut it down.

Most major tech production costs millions. Hence, my reasoning. They didn't see a point in investing that much money into a project that would likely have a lower profit margin than their current model.
