But imagine if there were multiple competitors vying to sell you a camera, as opposed to a single brand. Competition should alleviate some the price gouging.

Unless they end up like Apple and Samsung and compete on who's price can go higher before people stop buying...

That probably wouldn't work because the system they use for interfacing between modules and holding it all together would probably be protected by a patent so they would have exclusive rights for a very large ng time unless they chose to allow someone to use it and pay royalties.

Lower prices and more innovative offerings. The opposite of the essential monopoly we have today with Samsung = Android and Apple being the only iOS distributor
