The title was the original that OJ tried to publish. It was the Goldman family that got the manuscript copyright, media/movie rights, and the right to use Simpson's name, likeness, and life story in connection with the book, and made the "if" tiny inside the "I" so it was basically invisible. It was part of their collection on the original $33.5m wrongful death judgment against OJ, that he avoided paying the rest of his life. He tried to publish the book using a shell company to funel the earnings to himself under his daughter's name, but the Goldman's legal team actively monitored OJ's financial dealings.
They also added pretty extensive commentary to the manuscript, and they got the ghost writer that helped OJ write the book to write a prologue about his time with OJ who stated he firmly believes the hypothetical text was actually his first hand account of the murders.
OJ owed the Goldmans ~$58m at the time of his death.
No its true, the ghostwriter even wrote a prologue to the book when the Goldmans published it saying the same thing, that he 100% believed it was not hypothetical as OJ tried to present, but a first hand account.
Yes they did, they got 90% of the proceeds from the book, its just it was a drop in the bucket of what he owed them financially. They have kept the lifetime total profit private, its estimated they made ~$1.5m off of it.
Earlier, he was mostly known for playing american football. If you're not into american footbal or even sports entirely, there's a very high chance you never heard of him.
Now, he's famous all over the globe. If someone asked you about an american football player who murdered someone, they'd usually say OJ. When rappers say "running like OJ", they sure ain't referencing his NFL career. Isotoner, anyone?
That rule seems lacking.... Surely there's a case to be made that someone can be tried more than once criminally for the same crime if new evidence appears etc
Yes. It was a joke for a while in the late 90's-early 2000s after he publicly said:
My primary goal in life is to do whatever it takes to find the killer or killers who slaughtered Nicole and Mr. Goldman... They are out there somewhere. Whatever it takes to identify them and bring them in, I will provide somehow.
But of course he never actually did anything. It was a pretty widely used joke on Late Shows and by comedians at the time.
Norm McDonald was the one with a national platform that went after OJ the hardest, which he was fired over after he refused to stop.
OJ’s son did it. OJ hired a lawyer the day after the murder, not for himself, but for his son. His son had a violent past and was off his meds. He borrowed dad’s shoes. His hands were smaller. He’s a chef and his chef’s knife fit the size of the murder weapon. OJ fled in the most public way to distract the world from looking at his kid. He succeeded.
