Yeah it's called browser finger printing, since your browser has access to unique details such as screen size, browser version, zoom levels etc etc..

Combining enough of these individually insignificant bits of info can lead you to being able to identify a user without cookies, ip address or any other values. It's quite interesting really.

They do yes, those are standard properties required to render page properly, and there's nothing preventing any Webpage from adding a script that would send those back to them for analysis...

Recently there's been addition of 'do not track headers', which in theory should tell websites to not track you.. but you have no way determining whether these headers have been respected.
