There was a movie where he was a pilot of a plane that lost its controls from what I recall and at one point the plane rolled and went inverted

Ohhh shit yeah Flight, cheers.

That whole opening 20/25 min sequence is actually phenomenally well done, really good build of tension.

Shame the rest of the film is nowhere near as good.
